in 1984 I was a young adolescent in Argentina and just finished with Stranger to the ground, I wrote a letter for Richard to Elanor Friede, his editor at the time. He got the letter, handwrote a message on it and had it send back to me in Argentina, he did that two times. I still have those letters and now at 55 years old, I'm still trying to contact him to say thanks. You have no idea the impact that had in my life. Thanks Mr Bach I hope you still get to fly... and write.

He had an enormous impact on all of us. educated to death in more than one field, born w a book in my hand and having read thousands throughout my life, in my old age, I still remember, verbatim, the wonderful words from ILLUSIONS, but no others.☮❤🙋
It's cool that you knew to send your letter to Eleanor Friede. Not only was she Richard's editor, but she also was his girlfriend -- before he married Leslie.

I love listening to Mr Bach. It takes me back to a time in my childhood where imagination ran free and there was such innocence. He managed to keep that within himself, it sounds like, for his entire life. He's still with us of course but I just mean it's amazing how he kept that all these years. I remember reading Illusions first and then proceeded to gobble up all of his aviation books which were absolutely wonderful and conveyed the romance and magic of aviation. I highly recommend them to anyone who hasn't read Stranger To The Ground, Biplane and Nothing By Chance. They are wonderful books! So glad I got to experience the magic that is Richard Bach in all of his books. Bless you Richard Bach!
Richard Bach.....I learned to fly, taking my PPL at Goodwood Flying School, Chichester, England. During this time I was reading Richard's Books. This man changed my life and even today, in 2017, I still believe everything that was written through Richard Bach.
Thank you for posting, this book is very special to me, my grandfather read it just before he died in april 1977, I still have his copy and read it recently. I love the message in the book and dealing with the afterlife..
one of the most amazing writers I have every had the joy to meet through his books. JLS (which is also my initials) has been read so many times it makes the book look older than it is , illusions - a masterpiece that I have read more than I care to mention thank you Richard for a glimpse into your world x
Loved this interview. Also very relieved to hear that JLS started with an experience like one I once had. Thank you to Richard Bach for this and for Illusions as well. Two of my lifetime all-time favorite books. I lent a copy I had at university and it had been filled with words and thoughts that friends had written in along the sides of the pages, to a fireman called Michael from LA when he was on a ski trip to Banff, years ago and never got it back. My univ friends had written such profound words along the edges of the pages and even though I have bought many copies over the years for other friends I still hope that one day I will find my copy in a used book store somewhere in the world and that others continued to write their thoughts beside Richard Bach's. I truly would love to have my well traveled book back one day. Great interview.

Ditto everything above. This one made me tear up, with him saying things that I always knew must be true. His books are divinely inspired. His fans have always realized that this is an author who experiences the genuine creative "visit." Some might even call his works "channeled" material. It really is wonderful to see him. I don't think Richard has been very public in the past. I hope that changes, and he does more teaching as he gets older, based on his wonderful body of work.
I was telling a friend about JLS the day before yesterday, and how much RB books shaped my life after reading them in my teens and early 20's. Yesterday, I was going through my recently deceased loved one's box of books. The last book I pulled out of the box was Jonathan Livingston Seagull! It reminded me of "the feather" exercise. Synchronicity!
He is an AVIATOR and my favorite author/ artist of words put to page. I am an aviator though in his league only in my thoughts. Every time I Aviate I feel young again and yet somehow a little wiser in the way a child discovers their world a bit more every day. This guy coined the term "soul mate" in his book a bridge across forever. ...he left his wife and CHILDREN after finding financial success. He left his obligations high and dry. Thats what you need to know about this guy.
BINNNNGO. I started reading Bridge Across Forever a few months ago. Halfway through I got curious about who Richard Bach was as a person. I found out he ended up divorcing Leslie Parish and getting married not once but TWICE more. So much for "soul mates" huh? And then there's the fact that his 6 children aren't even mentioned once in that book. He's absolutely full of baloney

I feel linked to this man and his work-i am always looking out the window too. If u loved his books u gotta read "The Silent Pulse" by George Leonard. A beautiful, well written book in the same spirit as Bach, similar themes but taken from real life occurrences. Really-u wont regret it.
I read JLS as a young guy in the UK Royal Navy. It set me on a course that lifted me from every slough until I found and earned my wings in Livermore California. Thank you Richard with All My Heart.💖
Thinking of Richard Bach. Richard grew up just a couple blocks away from my house and went to all the schools I did. I never personally met Richard except through his books. I didn't even know those facts until I came across a book he wrote ironically titled "Nothing by Chance". I would subsequently brush up next to him 'by pure chance' for several years up until today. I went to film school where one of my instructors, David Cooper who worked for Michael Bay, producer of the film 'Second Hand Lions' with Haley Osmet (The Sixth Sense). David had purchased Richard's book 'Illusions' to do a film. Of course the book had to be changed somewhat to turn it into a screenplay and I knew ahead of time Richard would never agree to that. I was right and the movie wasn't made. Too bad! That was one of my very favorite stories ever. Richard also had a son whose name was Johnathan from a previous marriage. Johnathan Bach now works in New York as a reporter, columnist and author of his own book of which he introduces himself and his relationship to his father.
I was introduced to the story of jonathon livingston seagull by the album narrated by richard harris and has been my favorite story to this day it still give me the same feeling after all these years
After 46 years of flying, I found that things were changing in a way I didn't like. Right in my old airport I felt just like a stranger, Had been offered a new job, so after landing I went to see this people and told them that I had done my last flight, , best wishes good bye. I left the Airport for the last time, never looked back.. Thankd dear Lord for your constant protection all this year ..... Over and out.

.JLS That book, I see it vividly 34 years after first seeing it, I can still smell the new carpet smell as I reached down to select it from the box of books on the class room floor. If your every experience is layered like an onion, then its book cover is wrapped tightly around my core. I chose it because it looked easy to read, but my mother finished reading it to me. It is the first book to end without a full stop

To read a writer's (semi) autobiographical accounts is like watching the (long-term) weather predictions. Take it all with a grain of salt! I adored Bach's books, but the glib reaction to his divorce from his soul mate (as read in The Bridge Across Forever) says it all. Bit of a let down? A sobering realisation?
