Hilarious! I needed to laugh. I haven't laughed this hard in years. I have been so depressed lately, I really needed this. Life today is hard and no more humor or any good comedians no longer. The shows on TV are lousy , there's nothing to watch. I don't even turn the TV on no longer. It's been years since I have watched any shows on TV. This made my night. I sure needed this. Thank God for RU-vid and these reruns. There's no one like Johnny Carson.
After watching this on TV today I had to Google this guy to see if he was ever divorced because he would have drove me nuts! He's almost 80, still acting, and still happily married to the same woman for 60 years!! Amazing!
If your interested in good movies he's done, check out "Goodbye Columbus" and "Portnoy's Complaint" Both late 60's films, comedies of course written by the same author. Hilarious and dramatic at the same time.
I'm so glad I found this. I actually saw this episode when it originally aired. I can't believe its been almost 40 years since then. This was one of the best Richard Benjamin episodes on Carson (he did stuff like this regularly) and was one of the few guests (I recall Robert Blake being good like this too) who came on and actually did a "routine" rather than regular boring talk and Carson was always the best at setting up the guest so they could shine. Miss those days.
This aired on one of Johnny Carson's anniversary shows, and he said Richard caught some flak from Paula after this episode aired. I was reminded of it because I found a grimy frying pan in the dish drainer today. I showed it to my dad, ran my finger along the edge, showed him my now-grimy finger, and washed it. He's still grumbling an hour later.
I would rather end my evening with Johnny Carson reruns than the garbage on TV now. Watching the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was a big deal in my home, however, I was too young to watch him then. Thank God for Antenna TV!
