I justlearned of David Janssen´s very early death. What a shame. In this episode he was 26. Hard to believe.

Off-screen, he burned himself out with boozing and round-the-clock partying, nothing like the quiet, polite persona affected by the characters he played on t.v.. Surprisingly, he was Jewish, although his publicity machine obscured his origins. He was buried in the "segregated" Hillside cemetery in L.A..

Powell decided to go in a different direction when the 1956 pilot he produced- starring Don Taylor, and based on a radio script- didn't quite work out to his satisfaction. He believed David Janssen was a better choice to play "Diamond". The fact the series lasted three years proved he was right.
