When you sing a song so real that two of guys who have written some of the greatest songs in the genre lean back, shake their heads and join in. Here’s to all the late night song pulls that gave us this type of exquisite beauty
Things have been a bit rough for our family recently, and I’ve probably listened to this over and over. It’s just beautiful...absolutely heartfelt and so moving.
Rodneys drunken and slackjawed face is forever imprinted in my mind due to this video. I hear a beautiful song and I think of a young drunk Rodney Crowell's mouth agape on hearing it.
RICHARD DOBSON, YOU, MY MAN ARE AN ANGEL SENT DOWN FROM HEAVEN🌺 ONLY GOD COULD HAVE HAD A HAND IN BRINGING YOUR BEAUTIFUL AND VERY EMOTIONAL SOUL TO OUR EARS.. TO HEAL, UPLIFT AND TO MAKE US ALL REALIZE WHAT LOVE AND LIFE IS ALL ABOUT. THANK YOU FOR BEING JUST WHO YOU ARE.. AWESOMENESS 🌺
Look at the stunned look on Rodney crowell's face as he listens to the lyrics of this song and that will tell you all you need to know about how good this song is.
Forever ain't easy to come by For always ain't never to sure For certain is less than you hoped for For someone it's hard to endure Foresaken must sometimes befall us For sorrow sometimes will call For seasons go around on a pinwheel And tomorrow ain't nothin' at all The first time that I came by lovin' Forever was all on my mind And I never got used to the hurting Or the searchin' for some love in kind And it seems like I'm still chasing rainbows It seems like I'm still on the run Forever don't mean much in passing Forgotten don't mean that it's done Forever, for always, for certain' For someone forsaken for sure For any old plan you got workin' For any old pain you can cure Forever, for always, for certain
The look on Rodney's face at 2:00, and the rapt attention that Steve has at the beginning: these two young musicians are learning from a master. I think Rodney is hearing how lives can rhyme, in a fashion, at the beginning: "forever, for always, for certain, for someone, forsaken, for sure"... What a beautiful scene.
when a lyrically great song is sung, anyone with any sense of music and poetry are captivated, thus the looks on Susanna, Steve, Rodney's faces......even the great ones marvel greatness
Lol. Are you sure they aren't just all marvelling at how theyve been drinking for 24+ hours and wishing they hadn't smoked that last joint that has them all semi conscious and each caught several times by the camera man looking like they really need a nap and a sandwich
Such a beautiful song. Wish I could find a physical or even digital copy of this timeless documentary. So much talent sitting around that table it’s mindblowing.
Always thinking this! A true casual passionate moment in song. And to wonder how many of these were out there but not caught on cam. I give so much credit to the person who filmed this!
I must admit i do love guitar and still aim to carry a decent solo. However, if i had the one wish i would wish to write simple songs that posses this flashback power. In a way music is technically a time machine, with particular ability of transporting you into the past or future. We all have that one song!
this guy Richard Dobson wrote, and sang the most beautiful song on this entire album/video...I'm his age, and followed all these guys...HE WROTE THE "CLASSIC" song amongst this gathering of songwriter/singers...
G (G7) Am D C G is the chords for the most part when it comes to the " feels like im still chasin rainbows " is where the G7 comes into play besides that there ya go
yep, Rodney saw 'genius' and his countenance just dropped...WOW! too bad it took Guy Clark, and all the others in that room to do 'cover tunes' of this masterpiece.
@robert donaldson I think @Matthew Serrano is right on this one considering at 1:40 Guy Clark talks to Rodney Crowell and they laugh but you can only hear the song playing. Compare that to at the end of Mercenary Song you can see and hear them talking over Steve playing. Also at the start of this video Rodney has a guitar on his lap and a minute later he has handed the guitar away?
god this tune reminds me of good times in portland the comforting smell of baking cannabis cookies oozing through the oven spliffs being smoked and some good ipa to wash it all down and the company o some good friends days i will miss
Have only found this string (from Guy And Suzanna's house on Christmas Eve) in several clips - on the Heartworn Highways DVD. Anyone know if all three (or four) clips were ever available as one? Its the best part of that wonderful DVD IMHO.
I don't think so. I've never found it if it has. They're just the bonus or extra bits added on after the film itself. Which is a shame, I think the whole shooting match should have been run on as one.
Who is the woman sitting to the left of Rodney Crowell? Did a bit of research and found she is Susanna Clark, Guy's wife. Sad to learn she passed from cancer. Great music, crazy lives RIP.
Guy wrote a few songs about Susanna as did Rodney and Townes Van Zandt. Steve Earlle mentions he in a song and may even be more. She also wrote some songs herself. On Rodneys album before last he wrote Life Without Susanna about when she was dying. It was hard on him because they were very close for many years
@@lastnamefirst4035 Thanks for replying and telling me a little more. It is tough losing those we love especially to cancer watching them fade away slowly.
@@thegolfnut812 Guy always said Susanna would die from lung disease/cancer bc of her heavy smoking. Your so right, cancer being a terrifying diagnosis for victim, family and friends. Its scary
@@williamcole60 Yes, it is sad for those that have to live life without those we love no matter how cool their life was. We don't want to let go. Human nature.
