I have a 2002 black astra Bertone with 85,000 klms on the clock. It still smells, looks and drives like new, in 2020.

In 2021 my girl-friend bought one of those, with a 2,2 litre engine. Really fun to drive, and still looks really nice today.

I also have 2006 2.2litre engine and I don't drive aggressive but I only get 400km per full tank. Is it normal ? Can you please ask your girlfriend how much mileage she gets ?

@@borarider669 Got a 2002 2.2litre with 160,000kms, still get an impressive 650km per full tank by driving occasionally sporty so it seems like you may have an issue. Also, the 2006 is an astra H twintop which is significantly heavier than ours, which partially explains your low gas mileage.

@@robindubreuil7449 hey thanks for your message. I figured out the issue. Before I sold it I was using it for doing uber eats everyday. So that's why my mileage was bad :(

I have a 2002 2.2Ltr green one. 160,000Kms on the odometer and impressively working well. Full options with xenon, GPS, hands-free phone, cruise control, automatic aircon, leather, 17" BBS rims: it is still an incredibly modern experience to drive. As many of us know the roof has several issues it shares with he BMW E46, but for a good DIYer with spare time it is not that expensive to repair or maintain. This engine is used in many other GM vehicles and extensively on SAABs, it is known to be noble and reliable. I also have a non-convertible 1.4Ltr with GM chassis and even if many parts are shared between those two cars, i can really feel that build quality and materials are way superior on the 2.2 convertible. It is not just an astra made convertible, it is a convertible designed on the basis of an astra.

Looking at what it is worth today, i think your dream could easily come true. Don't wait too much as they will become collectible and grow again in value.

In 2004 we decided that we should change one of our two Focus's for a cabrio. A major problem was space in the rear. We had two young girls at the time and their legs stuck straight out when in their child seats. The car had to accommodate them. The Renault Megan wasn't suitable. The front screen although not as raked as the Astra, was actually closer to my face due to the driving position. It was too close for comfort and I'm 6' tall. Out of all the available convertibles that we tried, the only ones with enough rear legroom (and potentially affordable) were BMW, Volvo, Saab and the Vauxhall Astra. A new Audi was due to come out with a diesel engine, but was too expensive. It so happened that Vauxhall were offering 0% finance over four years, so we considered a new 1.8. The other cars were going to cost about another £7k minimum on top as a used car. Another selling point was an article by Jeremy Clarkson stating what a quality car it was for the money, favourably comparing with a BMW or a Mercedes. It seats four adults. We were all set to go for the new one, but the dealer suggested buying used from their network. My wife loved the way it drove, reminiscent she said of her old XR2. I had sold cars previously for Ford and Nissan and knew about network supplied cars. We asked him to let us know what was about. A couple came and went before we could make a decision. Then a fully loaded 2.2 became available. Leather, cruise control, aircon, heated seats, the lot. One year old and £12800 later, it was ours. We still have it. It will be 18 years old this year. It still looks modern. The paintwork is dull in places and it has a couple of marks, but it's a great car, with 71,000 miles on the clock. The only problem is, we now live in South West France. Having the roof down in Summer means sunburn! We've had offers for it, but it's worth more to us than we would get if we sold it. If we were to sell it, what would it cost to buy a replacement?

RU-vid thinks you'd be happier driving Alcon Contact Lenses. :p GM didn't even try to sell this car Stateside, mainly because they were selling Chevy Prizms, one of which I still happen to own.
