Join Richard Hammond as he gets to test drives and review the Mini Cooper S. This remarkable hot hatch has a 1.6 litre 16V Supercharged engine, produces 163 BHP, does 0-60 in 7.4 secs, and has a top speed of 135 MPH.

I’m just about buy an 03 plate with just 24k miles on the clock…. Can you tell me is there much of a difference performance wise compared to 04-06 models ? Cheers.

@@johnhall8564 depends I can’t remember what year they stop supercharged I’ve got one 04 that is supercharged modified it and I keep up with e92m3 up to 60-70 mph in the dry they are good pocket rockets just sketchy over 100

@@fusionstream5032 I’m surprised how quick the little car is as standard so I’m looking forward to modding it down the line and hopefully getting at least 200bhp…… and wow keeping up with M3’s is some going !!

Aasa C He looks the same as he does now haha... my roommate and I watched all of the Top Gear seasons on netflix recently (14-21), now we're starting from the beginning on Hulu. It's crazy how much younger James and Jeremy look from 2003 to now haha.

It had a problem when I bought it from the previous owner I had a complete overhaul done a year ago and she's the most brilliant car ever since Beautiful how she drives. Love it to bits.

They lied about the top speed😂😂 I had 140 out mine and kept pulling I had to slow down due to the A pillar blowing off 🤦‍♂️

I like how little the body rolls during corners. I usually end up catching up with a wimp and needing to brake mid bend 😂 I have the turbocharged clubman. A bit of lag but not too bad. Most of the lag is if I've just come out of puttering through a village at 30 in 6th but if it's up to speed on a motorway it can pull straight away

Not 2001. The BMW Mini came out in 2001 but the Cooper S version didn't come out till 2002

Exactly what I was gonna say as the cooper s wasn't launched until 2002. Hence why there is the cooper s 02 register for all the first ones. My mate owns one of the first batch off the production line.

Not a Cooper s Gerry. if he owned a mini in 2001 then it would of been a standard W10 engine cooper model. If it was a cooper s then it wouldn't have been until 2002.

Or, theyre one of the countless dissatisfied owners of these horrid little cars. I was once one of those people, and I'm now very happy to say I managed to sell mine to some other poor bastard that thought it would be a good idea to buy one. They'd have been a great car if they had used an engine that wasnt such a unreliable pile of scrap, I'd trust a vintage Mini engine more than this garbage. What a waste.

dont get me wrong, I love the way the look (except for the newest ones...gross), and they do handle like a super-sized go kart, but the reliability issues alone make it a ticking time bomb.

so what makes a 'girl car' a 'girl car' My 2002 mini cooper is faster around my local track then a 2001 mustang with a v8. Like if a girl car is slow, does that mean the mustang is a girl car?

Ok fella. You probably did outrun one but sorry to tell you he was probably only using 10% throttle while you were hanging on the rev limiter because he wasn't racing you. But if it made you feel happy for a few seconds then that's great but don't try telling that story to anyone else as you may just get laughed at 🤣🤣
