🎉Underrated for sure. One of the very best in the category of Delivery ! His delivery was so natural and when it delivered the dynamite material he wrote ,I'm dumb founded as to why he wasn't up there in the Rickles Dangerfield , Carlin genre. He was. Great actor also in his routine as he never showed any signs of falling apart , in fact , the opposite , as he always seemed like a person in complete control, ( with a little spare time to make humorous fun of life in general) he just seemed to be in the eye of the human hurricane world .
@@Quazi-moto I know several professional comics and they didn't care for him. They said he was rude to them and often heckled them during their sets. Doesn't change my opinion of his comedy though, he's by far the funniest comic I've ever had the pleasure of seeing.

I guess this is just one more example of why the saying "Never meet your heroes" was created. Not the Jeni is/was a hero of mine... just making a point. Although it DOES kinda sting to learn he was apparently an ass to his colleagues. I can't STAND a holier-than-thou or 'I'm better than you!' type of personality.
+lordcron I performed comedy with him at the Ocean Side California Comedy Store in '91. I opened for him. He sat with me for drinks and was more than nice. I was a nobody. He is one of the funniest comics who fell short due to his demons.... I love this guy. What a loss.
he also had bursitis, laryngitis, pneumonia, old-monia, hyperactive glands, diahrea, piarhea, Rhea Pearlman, and a bunch of other things I can't even mention.

+Mark Hauser I heard that he really wanted to break into TV and it just wasn't working out for him. It's too bad he couldn't realize how great he was at stand up and just be happy that he was so talented at it.
+MaxCovington543 True, but he'd been on the road for years, and it does take a toll on you eventually. At 50 plus he probably was burned out and couldn't see anything else ahead---some people just can't get on TV and make it---Richard Jenni is easily one of the most intense and riveting comics we'll ever see

I saw Richard at the Tempe Improv in the mid-2000's. He seemed angry but he was still funny overall. He is someone I can watch repeatedly and not get bored.
Damn I forgot how funny he was. I haven't rewatched his material since before he passed way. He always came close to being an absolutely huge star and it never happened.

Funny and beautiful man. I saw him in Chicago live years ago. Met him. I actually told him a joke and he cracked up. He asked "Can I steal that?" A great night.

Such an amazing and incredible funny funny man! It is just so so sad that he took his own life. He was certainly a comic genius and made me laugh out loud! Anyone that can do that is definitely funny!

Saw him live in the 80s, outfunnied everyone else on the bill. Did a bit where he said, "Anyone can do Robin Williams schtick." Then he did 5 min. riffing on the people, the club, and the town AS ROBIN WILLIAMS. Brilliant.
Jeni, was a genius.....on par with "early Carlin" (who late3r actually became boring) Jeni was funny as hell and consistently...making fun out of real "stuff" Will we ever see another come our way?
Carlin became boring.... Seriously??! How can you write shit like that? Yeah he was way funnier in the 60's when he did cat jokes and visual gags... Carlin in the 80's-90's was possibly the greatest comic ever
@@castorchua Agree totally. But he did say 'Early Carlin'. Carlin started in the 50's. I assume he isn't familiar with his early work so he thought sketches like 'a list of people who ought to be killed' were 'Early Carlin' even though he was already around 55 :)
One of the funniest of the comedians around during my childhood. They definitely don't make them like him very often anymore...then again, they don't make the crowds the same, either.

I'm afraid that he was here before Bill Burr. That technically means, Billy Burr sounds like Richard Jeni. It's sort of a chicken came before the egg thing.
Robin Williams and him... So weird lots of comedy workers get into depression and suicide. The same happened to a Brazilian comedy actor last year also
