Scared To Dance must be the most criminally under-rated album from the whole punk scene. For me, it's comfortably in my Top 20 favourite albums of all time. Richard Jobson is a legend, as was the late, great Stuart Adamson - a punk/post-punk songwriting partnership up there with the likes of Strummer/Jones. I saw them back in 1978 when they toured as support for The Stranglers and they absolutely knocked it out of the park - still up there for me as one of the best gigs I've ever seen. PS - great interview! 👍
Fantastic interview so much I never knew about Richard . Very interesting and intelligent great story teller. Paul John loved how you just let him speak no interruptions well done and thank you 🍀
Hello!Hello!land, sea and sky Hello!Hello! boy, man and soldier Hello!Hello! deceived and then punctured Hello!Hello! long may they die Great interview Richard, loved it.
Brilliant, great interview. What he says about speaking to the fans after the gig is true, Stuart Adamson used to come out to Dalkeith for a beer with us back in the day 😎🏴
I knew Richard a bit in London in 1980/81 latter days of the Skids. He hasn't really changed. Only 19/20 at the time he was living the dream of being a pop star Top of the Pops guy but was really himself. He always felt like a guy that could handle himself if needed to. My judgement is I have positive memories of him, so he left an impression on me. i wish him well.
p j.. ive watched all your podcasts.. all the interviews.. and this is absolutely the very best.. im an old punk who played his first gig in the mars bar when i was 17 and went to his first game in 1970 ..this interview has made my day well done..im 60 this week and this interview is so relevant to my team my music and my politics ..hail hail
I lived in Düsseldorf for five years I've got a house in Dortmund (and live there now), one of my old friends is an enthusiastic St Pauli fan - and I visited him in Hamburg when Celtic ladies played a pre-season match. Got steaming, fainted, smashed my head in, woke up on a strange couch (the St Pauli fans carried me home) and off we went again. Ach yes great times.
Wasn't wae Margot U woke up with I was in Hamburg month a go.i got drunk split my head mugged. Got a hand up off street shouting bobbo gone get you!!that's life Memoires to tell the kids
It's not often that Alex Harvey gets a name drop, so hat doffed to that. I spent a couple of years working at Pitreavie Castle, my uncle worked doon the pits (under the watter ie Forth) and I spent a year living in High Valleyfield before moving to my own place in Rosyth. Long long ago, but this interview reminds me of the good times had.
Quality listen and hopefully there is a Part 2. Richard speaks passionately and you just know he is a sound, caring guy. Lived in Dusseldorf and there was/is a punk scene. St Pauli made to feel v welcome and reciprocated at Millerntor. 👍
Jobbo, you absolute legend. You won't remember, but I saw Skids in Gt Yarmouth in 79, aged 15, went backstage afterwards and you, Stuart and the guys were really cool with me and my mates (gave us a tin of Newcastle Brown and a pork pie from your rider!). You'd ripped your trousers on stage, and asked me if I wanted them (original Johnson's, Kings Rd). Made my year mate, will never forget it. Thanks and atb
Just listened to this interview again and well worth it PJD...big Jobson such an intelligent and empathetic guy: " have never listened to Sir Roderick Stewart and never will" 😂😂 Intae the Valley 😀
Absolutely wonderful interview PJ. I was totally glued to it!! It was nice to hear you get a wee word in now and then.Continued Success from the Netherlands HH
This was a fascinating interview, very interesting, watched it on my hour break, I've observed watching old interview shows, the best one's are when the interviewer occasionally asks a question and just let's the person being interviewed go! That's a talent you have, keep it up, thanks to you both for doing it :)
@@ACelticStateOfMind No problem, really enjoyed it, there is a Christopher Lee interview on here that lasts around 45 minutes, I think around 3 to 4 questions are asked, you have done many that I've enjoyed, always fascinating people and stories :)
Great interview loved the way Richard was allowed to tell his story Never realised he was so into football One my favourite bands the Skids just loved the music very underrated in my opinion Went to see Big Country on their first tour and they came down to talk to us great guys pity i was drunk but we asked them to do another gig in our area and they did!!
Jesus what a fantastic interview. Richard you could listen to him all day. Being a Celtic and Fc St Pauli fan I’m on the same wavelength I worked in Germany early 90s and agree with Leipzig mentality of it also Düsseldorf brilliant city to visit
Brilliant interview, Jobbers is a very impressive bloke, met him in the Clydesdale Bank in Piccadilly waiting for a teller, blethered about football and the Skids (surprise, surprise!), he's certainly outlasted the Clydesdale...lol!!!!
From the door opening at the stables (if you were lucky )when Jobbo the boy cut an imposing character to an articulate super funny funny man ,,Still one of the great frontman and sings better than ever,,Proud he,s one of ours !
Bellahouston is my old school! Never knew the Skids played there, must have been after my time, but saw them loads at Bungalow Bar etc just before Into The Valley kicked off. Then later when I had a minor music career of my own would run into Jobbo or Kerr oot The Minds in London. Lovely men both but Richard was the most impressive, old head on young shoulders.
I've got a lot of time for Richard, first saw the Skids at the Apollo in 77 but disappointed in his naive, divisive political views: left is good/ right is evil/ white supremacists??
