Richard Linklater is a filmmaker who uses time not only as a major theme in his films, but also as a tool. The way his films explore life using time in this way creates profound works that delve into the every day life, and the meaning that can be found there. This video in particular looks at Dazed and Confused, his Before Trilogy, and of course, Boyhood.

Felt like the music with lyrics was a bit too loud in the background, making it a bit hard to hear your analysis but I still loved this!

I have to recomend you his new film: Everybody wants some!! It's a spiritual sequel of Danzed and confused ant its a new whole point of view about time. It became my favorite movie of Linklater and probably of 2016. Congrats for the videos, are really good ;)

Can you please name me all the songs you used in this video? I want to make a Spotify playlist of them. This is my favourite video that you've made by far. Linklater has always hold a special place in my heart that not many people I know personally understand, but this video pretty much sums it up with the exception of Linklater's other philosophical standpoints - like in Waking Life and Slacker. Thank you so much for making this video though. I can't wait to see your channel manifest and have as big of an audience as Now You See It or Every Frame a Painting. You're absolutely wonderful.

I updated the description :) I've always been a huge fan of Linklater, I still haven't seen all of his films but the ones I've seen are completely unforgettable for me. Thank you, I really appreciate that. I certainly hope to reach that level some day, keeping my fingers crossed :P

you know what?! fuck Boyhood! as much as i like Linklater's films i think Boyhood is just empty, when in his other films dialogue moves the plot or clears something about charecters Boyhood's just complains about today's youth

Amazing video, but music was a bit too loud at the end - I didn't even realise you had started talking again for a few minutes!

+The Major Cinephile Thanks so much! I couldn't recommend it more, a great trilogy unlike any other I've seen. Couldn't agree more about Boyhood, one of the best films I've seen in a long time.

I'm a little late for this, but I feel the same way about Richard Linklater, I'm so glad you did this video. There's a couple of quotes from him that further encapsulate his ideology behind films and, most of all, his humanism. From Waking Life: "-What are you writing?" +A novel." -What's the story? +There's no story. It's just ... people, gestures, moments, bits of rapture, fleeting emotions. In short, the greatest stories ever told." Ethan Hawke quoting Linkater speaking about the Before trilogy: "I've never been in an helicopter crash, I've never been involved in serious gun play, I've never been in a submarine, all these things that people make movies about, and yet my life feels to me like it's full of drama and worthy of a story. And one of the best things that ever happened to me was actually connecting with another human being, that feeling, and could we make a movie about that." It's also mentioned in the trilogy, Ethan's character wants to make a reality show about normal people having breakfast, going to work, etc. In an interview in 1991 they asked him what kind of filmmaker he was, and he just answered "For me it's about people". He's a director that tries to show the beauty of mundane, normal lives, to wake us to the beauty and value of our own. His filmography is a big ode to the humanity, showing the bad and the good, but overall being hopeful. Thank you for the video, and here's Richard Linklater's meaning of life by two quotes from Waking Life: "So much of what we perceive cannot be expressed. It's unspeakable. And yet, you know, when we communicate with one another, and we feel that we've connected, and we think that we're understood, I think we have a feeling of almost spiritual communion. And that feeling might be transient, but I think it's what we live for." "That's what I love the most -- connecting with the people. Looking back, that's all that really mattered."

This is a really great video man. Linklater is my favourite director and this certainly has a lot to do with the whole thing about "time" in his movies, but I must say the music was indeed a bit too loud and it made it somewhat difficult to pay attention to what you were saying (especially when it was Delpy singing because her voice is so beautiful that one cannot simply ignore it). I had to pause and repeat a few times... totally worth it though.

I'm surprised you were able to watch it! This video has been blocked in so many countries xD Oh yes, the many mistakes I made in older videos. But I like to leave the videos as they were originally, wear my scars proudly so to speak. But yeah, it's hard for me to look back on older videos, I'm just yelling at myself "TURN THE MUSIC DOWN DUMMY!" But thank you for watching despite my terrible sound mixing
