I remember seeing that STP race car in 1972. That day glo red and Petty Blue was the most beautiful race car I've ever seen. I still pull for the 43 today, whoever is driving it. He's the King. No one will ever replace that. I have seen him race so so many times but at 73 years old and not able to go to races anymore l never met him. I was 9 or 10 when I started pulling for Petty Enterprises. Born in 1951 and 9 years later is when I became a Petty fan and always will. HE IS " THE MAN". Thanks for all the memories.😎👍🙏
there's nothing more amazing to me that king richard still give autographs to this day, i wish someday to be blessed with his presence and race stories. Here in argentina we have our own Race Heroe (to me at last) named Juan Maria Traverso, who did everything to stay on the top and never forgor the fans and recently opened his museum (not as Fangio but equal on race passion) on his hometown . Check it out !
Even up until his last days in Winston Cup, Richard Petty sure had something for these guys in 1990 and 1991. Well, circumstances just didn't allow him to have a good showing or win 201. Even the King said he was on a downhill drag and not really running competitive or running too good. This right here was probably his last best chance at getting win 201. He set records that will never be reached with 200 wins, he's tied with Dale Earnhardt for championships, and has 1,185 starts to his credit. It was the changing of the guard because a lot of the guys that raced with him like Bobby Allison, Buddy Baker, Cale Yarborough, Benny Parsons, and David Pearson decided to hang it up, but Allison's bad wreck at Pocono in 1988 ended his career. Petty was one of the last ones to step down after many years.
39:38 that's how I remembered Richard Petty when I first watched as a child of 5-6 year's old and had his special platinum holographic card in hard plastic that's how he looked. Like a living legend. I'd put that '91 model of his car against anyone of these car's that ride currently, and I'd still choose Petty's it's such a beautiful Nascar.
