This is amazing. Seeing Richard Rodgers as such a young man is a treat. These two worked in opposite styles, but were able to make it work, a gift for all of us. They were both brilliant.
Wonderful little excerpt. Despite the scripting, shows how they actually worked. Rogers wrote the music, then Hart supplied lyrics. With Hammerstein, it was usually the reverse.
In an interview given in the early 1960s, Rodgers said Hart had a strikingly handsome face that detracted slightly from his waspish frame and dwarfish stature. I can't say I disagree with Rodgers' blunt summation! One wonders how much happier, contented, and long-lived Hart would've been if not for those mild physical abnormalities that were seemingly the source of a great deal of his destabilizing insecurity.
