Richard Tucker sings Recondita armonia from act I of Puccini's Tosca live at the Met in 1969. Gleaming singing here. His best rendition after the Chicago one of 1964 to my ears. Francesco Molinari-Pradelli conducted, unfortunately.
wonderful and again remarkable that a singer could be still be singing renditions that can merit the term "best" or "second best" of an aria at 56 yrs old! thanks much
Lol, I guess I'm not alone on this. I got the famous 1966 corelli-nilsson turandot on itunes conducted by FMP, and some of his conducting is just weird. I mean it's fine overall, but there's some very unusual, choppy, over-staccato stuff that he does. Also some sections where the trombones are a bit too loud, like a high school marching band. :-P
"Francesco Molinari-Pradelli conducted, unfortunately." HAHA!!! you're harsh man! disparaging your OWN video! :-P agreed though, he was one of the most overrated conductors ever. tucker is in ship-shape here, wow. really a tenor at the top of his game. the recording is playing a tiny smidge slow, though. but nothing to worry about! :-) thx for the upload.
