The figures presented here do not account for differences in the cost of living between countries, and the results vary greatly from year to year due to fluctuations in the country's currency exchange rates. Such fluctuations affect a country's ranking from year to year, even if they often have little or no effect on its population's standard of living.
As a result, these figures should be interpreted with caution. GDP per capita is frequently used to gauge a country's standard of living.
