Richmond Tigers vs Fitzroy Lions - Round 21 - 1996 - Fitzroy's Last AFL Game In Victoria 

I'm a tiger's supporter and I was with my sisters husband and he was a Fitzroy supporter we stayed and they played the Richmond song then they played the Fitzroy song followed by a song called deep in our hearts everyone barracks for Fitzroy because Fitzroy is the most loveable team we've got. It's was a sad day for the Fitzroy supporters we will never forget the FFC.

I'm a Richmond supporter and I remember this game well. The tigers belted the lions by 151points. I believe it was a shame Fitzroy had to merge with the Brisbane Bears. I say no more mergers for gods sake!!

Fitzroy should have relocated today Brisbane in the mid 80s. .. that way their history, heritage, premierships and colours would have been protected. just like south Melbourne's history is still there with the swans.

Footy was so much better in the 60s 70s 80s 90s and 00s compared to what it is today in the 10's

Infact the 1990's Richmond were'nt a Powerhouse AFL Club they are now, but at Least they did had Some Huge Victories.

Kick out Gold Coast, and have all the Fitzroy primer ship flag to the Brunswick Street oval. (1898,1899,1903,1904,1913,1916,1922,1944) and have Brisbane play better football while playing in Melbourne so I do not have to see us getting smashed. Or bring back Fitzroy, and have their home ground Brunswick Street (Home ground from 1883-1966) or the Junction oval, which was our home ground from 1967-1988 or 89) Not Princes Park (Where Carlton train) Not the Western Oval (Where Footscray or these days the Western Bulldogs train) And not Victoria Park (Where Collingwood train) We train at Brunswick Street and play our home games at the MCG, which would be awesome.

Such a shame the Roys aren't in the league any more, while soulless franchises like Gold Coast and GWS are.

First of all Fitzroy did not have a merger it was a takeover by Brisbane

Although they can’t bring Fitzroy back in the AFL, they should at least bring them back in the VFL. Kick out Coburg and replace them with Fitzroy. While they’re at it, bring back South Melbourne to add a 16th team.

it sucks that fitzroy fans lost their team but it was for the best... i mean they were so bad that they would finish last in the VFL.

With the players Richmond had in those days, they really should have done a lot better

This day was the darkest day of my life along with thousands of other Fitzroy Football Club supporters. It’s like this Fitzroy supporters have suffered significant trauma hurt pain anxiety depression and some have even taken their lives!!! If you have felt the same then we all have the right to engage in a all out class action against the AFL. Make no mistake the AFL need to be accountable for the many lives it has ruined by the extermination of Fitzroy Football Club. Class action is the answer against the AFL .

My wishlist: 1) Change the rules back to what they were circa '96-'97 2) Undo the BrisLions merger (Fitzroy & Bris Bears are own entities again) 3) Get rid of GWS (and possibly Gold Coast if they don't show serious signs of longterm growth/winning hearts&minds up there within next 7-10 years) 4) Allow Port Adelaide to reclaim its Magpies identity w/traditional guernsey etc...ppl aren't morons who can't grasp the concept of 2 clubs or more in same comp w/same nickname, colours etc. When they play each other, the away team wears a clash strip...simple! 5) This one's unlikely, but worth a shot IMO...look at the possibility of promoting Port Melbourne to the AFL, playing out of Etihad.
