As we see it -is absolutely the best. Way to represent stories of ppl on the spectrum with actual ppl with some sort of autism. I devoured this show in one day, took me thru various emotions from beginning to end. Loved it. A must see for everyone.

Also on the topic of communication, for everyone, there is a technique couple's counselors use where after the 1st person speaks, before the 2nd person responds, the therapists asks them what did they hear? Because people infer things, or decide they know what meaning to attach to what they heard, but when they are wrong, the conversation can go sideways because they react to what they interpreted, but not to what was meant & they begin to argue about 2 different things. Is ok to say "I hear that you are saying this" & then ask the person if that was right or not. Make sure you're really on the same page before continuing.

I stumbled upon this show and was pleasantly surprised. It was funny, insightful and gave me much more empathy towards another group's struggle to be seen, heard and treated with respect. I finished the series with a new perspective on autism and individual's who live with the condition.

I don't have autism (as far as I know), but I _do_ have depression, and I actually accounted for it, for _years_ before I _knew_ about it. In the Navy, in sub. school, I made it a point to get up half an hour before either of my roommates, just to make sure I was ready when they were. It did not occur to me to ask why it took me so much longer than it took them. I just figured there was something different about me. Then, one day, they told me I had depression. Then I read up a little on it and the pieces fell into place.

I have a feeling I’m autistic (going to get evaluated soon hopefully) and that hotdog story really resonated with me. I stayed at my aunts house for two weeks and I made a pasta that I liked but my aunt didn’t want to blend it but I’m over here trying to make it the way the recipe says to do it and the way I know how to do it and I didn’t know how to say it in a different way than “that’s not how the recipe is supposed to go and I don’t like the texture of tomatoes when they’re like that”. It could have become something where I would get so frustrated I’d cry but luckily my cousin just separated some of the sauce ingredients for me and let me use the blender

I don't feel comfortable telling people I have ASD-1 IRL, because people judge you still. Most neurotypical people have it completely wrong. Because of horrible organizations like Autism Speaks, people shun those with autism and think it's the same as being mentally challenged or having no feelings. In fact, we have more feelings than neurotypicals (our amygdalae are overactive). It has nothing to do with mental delays. It's a perception / communication issue. We perceive and communicate differently. It's normal to us. It's other people's perception that causes our anxiety, depression, and CPTSD.
