In this video we look over Sean's shoulder while he assembles a 3" XM-18. It starts with grinding the lock face on the blade, to fitting it with a lock, then to assembly. Once the knife is assembled it's brought to sharpening before it's boxed and sent out the door.

It’s amazing how much machine time and hand fitting goes into one of their “production” knives. $425 is a lot to spend on a knife, but you can see where that money is going. Just the extra step he took to debure the lock ramp on the blade is awesome, it’s amazing how many “high end” folders I have purchased with a big old burr on the lock ramp. Sure your paying for a name, but its all the quality that’s behind that name that gives the knife value.

Do they have issues with warranty?

Featherchuker Personally I believe so. If you get a chance please read it. The main thing that bugs me personally is under their warranty they don't cover the detent on any of their knives, or the framelock. If you make a "flipper" knife you should cover detent. If zt, kizer, even Emerson can cover it why not them? Then with the framelock issue. On the warranty they claim "we build knives not ever to need a warranty" and I currently have an xm 24 with terrible lock stick and has the grittiest pivot movement. I've contacted them many times and the answer I got was that I created the issue. I have a spanto I've had for years and the lock up started slipping. So I finally got in contact with Rob Orlando. Told him about the issues I've been having. I was going to bladeshow and he told me bring them and in person and he will help. I bring my spanto and xm24. On my spanto I had laser imaged a cross on there and he refused to touch it because it "was a form of heat anodisation and that voids the warranty" and for the xm-24 he took it and after constantly calling or emailing "they are working on the issue" That's my experience. I've read other horror stories as well. Plus the fans are some incrediblly rude people. I love my hinderer. I love the designs. But the customer service in my experience has been crap

The attention to detail sets Hinderer Knives apart from many of its American and international competitors. The time and equipment required to produce each knife, comes with a higher price tag, though. In my opinion, they are absolutely worth that premium.

Sean, Kim, and Amanda do great work! I think there is a guy there named Rick that also assembles them occasionally.

Sean-assembled ‘Skinny’ was my first Hinderer. A human hair is actually about .003” - not the .001” you mentioned in the video btw
