I'm a redwings fan since 94 and I'll preface this by saying I don't like or dislike the Buffalo Sabres, but watching hockey intently the past 25 years, I have to say RJ has been the most electric voice in all of hockey! Much respect to a legend

Growing up in the Toronto area in the 90's, we had two of the greatest play-by-play announcers in sports: Joe Bowen (Leafs) and Jerry Howarth (Jays). That being said, we also got to hear Rick Jeanneret. He had a great voice and brought the kind of passion and charm to the broadcasts that made it fun to listen to or watch Sabres games, even if you weren't a Sabres fan. Sabre's games will never be the same.

I remember as a kid, when the sabres games where nationally broadcasted, my dad would watch the game with the tv sound muted, and rick jeanneret on the radio. doesn't get any better than that. absolute legend. shame we could never win the cup for rick; but his calls over the years were second to none.

There will NEVER and I mean NEVER be another NHL announcer as good or as better than RJ and Pittsburgh"s Mike Lange. Those two set the bar so high. It will take years for one announcer to be as legendary as these two. RJ and Mike were the best of the best.

I fell in love with hockey when I was 5… started following the team in the 05-06 season when my family had just moved to Buffalo, I remember that playoff run being my first real experience with the sport. Every door on the street was propped open and even on the nights where the games were on OLN, everybody’s TV was muted with WGR blaring on the radio. His calls are forever etched into my memory and give me goosebumps to this day. RJ will always be the voice of hockey in Buffalo, and he summarized it perfectly… it’s been a hell of a ride. What a man, what a career.

RIP RJ. Spent so many hours listening to Rick on the radio up past my bedtime as a kid. Those were the greatest memories. Forever my forever my favourite Sabre.

Sad to hear the news of his passing. He made Sabres games all the more interesting. RIP, Mr. Jeanneret.

The definition of class. His anticipation of when a goal or great play would be made taught me so much about the game and I'm sure it did for countless others. An absolute legend and treasure. Thanks for posting this.

I grew up in the 90's, born in 1990, My father is from Pittsburgh, my mother New Jersey. By some stroke of luck, my father's career landed in Western New York. I had the privilege of hearing the great game of hockey from RJ. I played ball hockey in my driveway calling goals in the RJ style and voice like many Buffalo area kids my age did. RJ is hockey to me, forever will he live on in my memories.

Rest in peace 🕊️ Rick. Thank you for being the voice of my childhood. On long winter school nights, weekend afternoons, playoff summers and for all I can remember. I'm so happy I got to meet you, shake your hand and talk. You are the voice of Buffalo. And the voice of so many hockey fans throughout the world. You will never be forgotten. I heard duffer crying it at the very end I was at rj night and I am not a major hockey fan but I felt chills come down my spine when I saw his calls…. I was the guy with the pit vipers and let me tell you I cried like a baby

RJ's final game I was driving back into NY from working down south for the entire winter. Crossed into NY and the game was just starting, will never forget that drive home. How fitting is it that it was an overtime win. Still missing RJ's calls. Go Sabres!

I’ll never forget when he said Alfredsson scored before the TV showed it. We may have never won a cup but… damn did we have the best experience watching hockey. Let’s go buffalo

I remember listening to RJ calling games back in the mid80s when I was 3 or 4 on my parents old Sony 19” tv.. I can’t say how much of an honor it was to listen to this man call games for almost 40yrs.. rest easy sir!

I Miss both Ted Darling and Rick Jeanneret, though I'm really upset that they made and raised Rick Jeanneret Banner in the rafters, but did nothing to make a Ted Darling and raise it to the rafters ... absolute disrespect by the Sabres and I'm very shocked and disgusted at that plus the way the Sabres Organization disgustingly treated Ted Darling who was unfortunately suffering from Alzheimer's Disease but the Sabres decided to abruptly fire Darling claiming that He had been drinking on the Job when after His Death that it was revealed that Ted was no Alcholic but had slowly declined and ultimately Died from Alzheimer's Desease ... their was never the constant Rememberances nor they never let Ted Darling have a Final Game and a Final Sign Off to the Sabre Fans since He was the First Voice of the Sabes in the 1970-71 - 1991-92 Season plus Rick would've had enough influence with the Sabres to have had Ted's Name raised to the rafters especially that it was Darling who got Jeanneret His Broadcast Job start with the Sabres before the 1971-72 - 2021-22 Season and Jeanneret while He was still Alive did nor said "Nothing" on having Ted's Name deservedly on a Banner and raise to the rafters, so think about this Sabre Fans, You would "Never" have known or Heard of Rick Jeanneret ... I'm just saying that since Ted Darling did for Rick Jeanneret by giving Him his First Professional NHL Broadcasting start and Career with the Buffalo Sabres that Rick could've done back for Ted in Memory by helping to get His Name on a Banner and raised to the rafters and I think the Sabres could rename the Broadcasting Booth to the "Ted Darling and Rick Jeanneret" or just the "Darling - Jeanneret" Broadcasting Booth.
