Thumbs up for the downs guy! Yeah, and the most awesome drummer the world has ever seen as well... This is the best version they've done of Wipe Out (of wich there are a few), and the camera work here is more than acceptable as well. This Wipe Out-vid should have all the views!
I know I've posted this response of them playing this song but when the Surfaris wrote this song, it was to be just a filler. It was written and arranged in less then 30 minutes. Frank Zappa was in the studio when this fluke hit happened. Possibly the greatest instrumental ever and their greatest hit was just another song and nothing special. Wipeout, both the Surfaris' version as well as cover versions - has been featured in over 20 films and television series since 1964, appearing at least once a decade. Not bad for a song that was, at the time, nothing special.
I never thought about it ever being written. So funny about Frank Zappa being there, too. I can totally see how this was such a fast write, too. Just follow your dots on the neck of your guitar. So funny on it being as you say, a fluke. “Okay guys. We have about thirty minutes left and you need one more song. “ “Okay. Play on your strings there and only on the dots.” “Okay. Here, we go.”
I like everything he does and plays. Except the way he plays wipe out. Sounds nothing like the original version. Other than that, I think he's great. Best drummer ever.
