Rapper Rick Ross was in Detroit this morning and went on the radio with WJLB's COCO, Foolish and Mr. Chase in the morning to promote next week's release of his newest album "Teflon Don," but he seemed to be WAY too careful throughout the interview... he was even scared to freestyle with them! (they freestyle w/ EVERYONE)
Ross tried to talk in circles for a good portion of the interview, but we were still able to trick him into answering some very REAL questions about his gangster credentials, Freeway Ricky Ross, signing to Diddy's management, and he even CONFIRMED BEING A CORRECTIONS OFFICER!
When COCO tried to convince Rick Ross to Freestyle with us, the way EVERY other artist does, he was pulling excuses out of a hat. At first he said that he needs to be smoking weed when he raps, but then when we told him to smoke some he said he was already to high... We think he was just scared to sound wack (even tho we think it would've been great!)
The release of his latest album comes under controversy after retired gangster Freeway Ricky Ross- who we interviewed last month- is trying to stop its release, claiming the rapper stole his identity
We had to get to the bottom of this, so we simply asked him give us an update on the this situation and he responded shortly saying, "It was an induction filed to stop the release Teflon Don, which was denied... AKA Tossed out. That's the route he chose to go about it, and he gon get what he gon get. And that's nothing."
When Mr. Chase asked Rick Ross, "Are you a gangster or an entertainer... or a collaboration of both?" Ross said, "I get money in the entertainment business but we could get gangster at anytime. I don't want anybody to ever get it twisted. That's the reason Ross don't really have no problems in the streets. You see the online thugs and twitter thugs but when it come to reality it's a whole different game... I don't even play like that. We do what we do in the music business but when it really comes down to what it really is, that's why we here. That's why we out here. Time gone tell that. That's why I never panick in the midst of adversities because your true fabric gon come out at some point and your true character will stand the test of time."
We didn't know what Rick's reaction was going to be when Foolish asked him what truth there is to the rumors that he was once a Corrections Officer. But Rick kept it real and said, "It's a lot of truth to it. And its a lot of truth to hustling and still getting money. And when you self made you understand that. If I went broke and had to go to McDonalds and sell fries. If I knew I had the ambition and drive that I do... at that point did I know I was going to build an empire worth $10million... naw."
Foolish: "You probably got more connected doing that than anything!"
ROSS: "Naw... You know my homies that put me on was Kenneth, Booby Williams. Some homies that's doing life sentences. It get no stronger than MY homies from Dade county that's no longer here. And that's why I rep the way I do."
