That Sarontini Greece track made me feel like putting on a suit and smoking an expensive cuban. Rick Ross doesn't need those club songs anymore. He makes great music.
I hope he never goes back to the club music! Personally, I didn't even want the Young Thug & Future features on this album. But I did realize that he disses Birdman on "Idols Become Rivals" (track 3), then put Young Thug on the very next track ("Trap Trap Trap")... That was a diss in itself.
I wasn't expecting to like this one too much, but I just can't deny some of these beats. Plus he actually mixed the content & topics up a little bit! How'd you guys like this, and do you think it's one of his best albums or worst? MORE LIFE REVIEW IN A COUPLE OF DAYS! It's a long album so I'm letting it marinate a bit...and since some people seem to be confused, I know the "priest/synagogue" line on "Idols Over Rivals" was a metaphor - I was just bein' silly with it!
I'm really surprised with this album. I heavily fuck with it which I never thought I'd say about a Rick Ross album. But this shit is some fire to me. This production is great as well. Good review!
Not a fan of ross as a rapper i think hes pretty decent tbh i really liked this album besides the two trap tracks after trap trap trap(which i liked) and the summer seventeen record i can say i liked a vast majortiy of the album. Ross has always had great beat selection but sometimes he has the outdated shit dead presidents sounded like a mid-late 2000s generic trap song you'd probably hear and forget because its nothing interesting. The voice of Ross over a soulful beat is a match made in heaven all my favorite songs from this album were basically those tracks sprinkle in a little thoughtful subject matter that isnt his typical shit and you get something good.
the producer of that santorini Greece should get an award the production is breath taking. and Rick Ross bounce back masterly. James much respect str8 out Cameroon
If he released it as an instrumental album I might rate it higher lol. Also dude, your reviews have been getting better and better. Keep up the good work!
Your intros have always been fire but ever since you got that intro card/intro music you've stepped up your game even more lol. I haven't checked out this full album yet, but the three singles I heard (Trao Trap Trap, Dead Presidents & She On My Dick) all sucked. I know Ross usually comes through with some smooth, beautiful, amazing production so I peeped the songs Scientology, Santorini Greece and Game Ain't Based On Sympathy, all of which have FIIIIRRRREEEEEE beats. Because of those all probably come back and check the whole album out, but also man I wish Ross would drop an entire album of songs like those 3 and just drop the trap shit, I think if he did an album like that with his awesome ear for beats it would turn out to be a legit great album
Good review. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Porter Ray's new album. It's called Watercolour. He's an emcee from Seattle. Been around for awhile and I think you like his music if you have not checked it already. 👍🏾
Pretty good album by Ross here. I can say that I enjoyed more than Black Market for sure. It's just Rick Ross being Rick Ross, nothing more nothing less. 3.75/5 for me.
This album is good. It wasnt necessarily great to me compared to other Ross albums. The trap songs sound dated to a degree. Jeezy sounded lazy on Dead Presidents. The soul sample songs are pretty good but a few of them towards the end of the album get boring. Its somewhat the same formula as his last album which had the same amount of standout tracks but they were overall better. This album is really smooth and its a decent listen overall. I still hold God Forgives I Dont as his best album with Teflon Don right behind it. I can put Black Market over this one too. Also this is about the second collab Ross and Nas have done and Im left unimpressed equally by both of their efforts. His best collabs were with Dre and Jay Z on 3 Kings and Andre 3K on Sixteen.
All I have to say about this one is that I thought it was better then his last which I think was Mastermind or black market but I thought it was good for a Rick Ross album. Trap trap trap lol
I believe if Rick Ross really takes his time making an album instead of dropping an album and 5 mixtape yearly he could drop a legit classic album. All his albums have a couple of great songs and then the rest is just Ross on auto-pilot doing the same shit again and again (even some of those songs/fillers are alright)
I do like ross earlier work (Teflon don is his best to me) and this album is good but not great (at least he has some content again) I could've taken off the songs with meek dej loaf, yo gotti, and trap trap trap with thugga
