Erik Reimerink fuck me you're either totally devoid of a sense of humour or completely fucking stupid. He's being ironic, something you definitely do not get.
Before Rick Wakeman joined the Strawbs, he played organ and piano at church. He was baptized as a Christian at age 18. One day he's playing the organ at church, the next, initially as a session musician, he's playing keyboards for the Strawbs.
you can hear the complexity of rick"s playing- he"s aching to give it some progtastic, more adventurous playing! i agree-thank god he found yes! it was right for him.
This track isn't really what the strawbs were like. They're mostly prog, this seems to be a track from when they were still the strawberry hill boys. Take some time and try out the album hero and heroine, you will not be disappointed.
My love is as the rose As wild and free as I should wish to be Close guarded by the thorns That shield her from the hands that seek to touch. The hourglass sand that runs so free Is rock that failed to halt the waves of time My haven is the harbour bar Sheltering from the storm 'Til the sun comes shining through, again. My love a primrose fair A gentle hedgerow flower in the spring If gathered in the dawn Come evening she will surely fade and die. My love is as a pearl A heart of stone that I can never own More precious that my life Thus meaning more than I can ever give.
I gotta admit Im a Wakeman fan, more than Strawbs, but thanks for posting. I've heard him play with them on record, but neer seen any footage till now.
Over the years, a couple of people asked the song's title, it's 'Til The Sun Comes Shining Through' from the album Dragonfly. The location of the video looks very much like a 1969 Granada TV studio-based folk music programme in Manchester UK. Me and some friends were at the recording, having seen the Strawbs previously in folk clubs around Birmingham. We were a bit dubious when they turned up with a piano player, but quite knocked-out by his ability, once they started performing. Happy days!
