Wonderous Stories performed by Rick Wakeman on his Live Portraits tour in 2018. Following the release of the 2017 studio album Piano Portraits, which was very well received and went Top 10 in the UK for several weeks, Rick has been touring “Live Portraits” to sell out audiences across the UK. As a lasting record Rick has decided to film and record a very special performance of “Live Portraits” at Lincoln Cathedral on 7th March 2018.

Possibly my favourite Yes track. Its a toss up between Wonderous Stories and Turn Of The Century. Wonderous Stories seems impossible to play too loud. You can keep turning up the volume until doors and windows are shaking but it won’t sound too loud.

I cannot resist the impression of a modern church where Rick and his piano is the evangelist who is feeding our starving souls with the hidden manna of music because man does not live on bread alone.

Ricks polymoog solo on this song is just amazing!!! I can remember being a teen in the 80s and getting my 1st CD player. GFTO was on of the very first CDs in my collection... then a few years later seeing Rick, Steve, Bill, and Jon at an ABWH show was the highlight of my concert experiences!!

I am QUITE sure that if I ever get to attend one of Rick's concerts at the end I will be thinking exactly what I was at the end of the two King's Singers concerts I attended. At the end of two hours it was basically "Oh, don't stop", both times.

There are a whole slew of great keyboardists mostly during the 70s. But Rick Wakeman is the master. I think Turn of the Century is an even better example of Rick's talent. The drawback was Rick pursued recording his own works. Yes had to find replacements when they would record new material or tour. I would have liked to know what Magnification would have sounded like if Rick was involved. It seems like it was right up his alley.

Love Ric .always will but I also loved Patrick Moraz's contribution to yes and I always wonder about that grey area as regards how mu h Patrick contributed to tracks like awaken on oing for the one some say Moraz wrote quite a bit thar Ric played in that album . I loved to know what Moraz's contribution was.

Over does the arpeggios and rapid-fire grace notes. Just because he can throw in all those quick notes doesn't mean he should. And he's playing it much too fast.
@Zman885
@Zman885 10 месяцев назад
And just because you say he should not doesn`t mean he shouldn`t . Simply playing a different up tempo version not a pure cover .He probably played it so many hundreds of times , he wanted to add is own touch to it , he has every right , and it worked beautifully .

Man, Rick, certainly played masterfully, but at this speed and so highly differentiated, you ultimately rob the soul of the piece. That's not a criticism, but I just don't like this kind of interpretation much, sry man.)))) You'd better play this on a Silbermann - or at least an equivalent organ, in the style of bygone but timeless times))).
