Rickenbacker 620 Tone Test - Sherwood Music 

I’ve been using 10-52s on my 620 for a while with no issues so far! Not quite 11s but close

It's the 12 strings where the R tailpiece can break if you use anything heavier than 10-46 gauge strings. My 620 has clearly been set up with very, VERY heavy strings by a previous owner judging by the size that the nut slots have been cut to and how the truss rods have been tightened up so much the metal plate they lever against has sunk into the wood slightly - but the R tailpiece is still intact.

To my memory it was plugged into the top boost channel low gain input, master volume bypassed on full 30w; little tone cut; can’t remember EQ position but was dial’d in for maximum chime. Volume was set so I could get some break up when I really hammered the guitar. Hope that helps! Both amps were breaking up at different points in the frequency spectrum and to different aspects of my picking attack so it’s all about the interaction between the amps for this tone. But at the end of the day it’s always true that the AC30 is the one amp that no Ricky player should live without.

@@sherwoodmusicKWI should add, that is a Beautiful looking guitar! Years ago, I ran across in a shop what was I believe was a 620-12 Rickenbacker solid body, very much like yours, in natural blonde finish, but in 12 string version, and at a very reasonable price. Not only was it the finest 12 string electric I have played, it was also a gem to play as a 6 string. I had already known of two 620-12 owners who strung & played theirs as their main 6 string axe, because they were a joy to play. I totally understood why now! Alas, I convinced myself that I had enough guitars, and I didn't need to buy another. But it was such a sweet guitar, that I had second thoughts, and went back to that shop again afterwards. But the Rick was GONE! I've been kicking myself, ever since!

I’ve had one since 1981 and I find the 620 with its neck thru body construction , is as versatile as a Telecaster, some Rickenbackers are limited but the 620 is their most versatile I have found.
