Yes Ricky go off! Being a single mother is fine and dandy, but boys need a strong male figure somewhere in their life. Whether it's an uncle, cousin, or mentor. It's needed. And I tell people that get on their high horse about whippings and punishment all the time, "OK, years down the line, when my sons put their feet through your window, kicking in your doors, hanging on your corners, or my daughters showing up at your door with a baby in their arms at 13-16 years old saying it's your sons, or beating your daughters ass at school every other day, DON'T SAY A MF THING TO ME AS A PARENT THEN!" Discipline is needed. More so now then when we were coming up because there's so much more distractions out there.
DAMN RIGHT! Well said. I absolutely treat mine the same way!One time I even had child protection called on me for whooping my son's ass. I told the detective that my kids are mine to raise and when/if they need a whooping,they will get it. She said,"i wish we had more parents like you,we just have to investigate when we get a call". I ALWAYS say, "who's calling the police when the POLICE beat the shit out of my son? I'm trying to make sure that doesn't happen. Self sufficient men here. NOT living off some poor,stupid girl that allow that shit to happen. So sad.
I LOVE IT, Rickey!! WE HAVE 2 Boys we adopted & my husband and I run a tight ship. We let them know that nobody out there cares about their trauma or that they were mistreated. We got counseling for that… but excuses to not do simple things like got to school, clean your room, respect themselves, us and other adults will not be tolerated!! I am with you… if you don’t like it then come & take them with you!! And believe me, ain’t nobody running to pick them up! 💯💯💯

I'm a black guy I have 3 kids one baby mother I graduated and I paid for my own schooling and never went to jail. the people that are saying you're wrong most of them don't even watch their own kids they have the mother of their fathers on nannies doing that or grandmothers so you are a father that's actually with your kids around your kids you hang out with your kids you know what they do you know what they watch most of them can't say that so you keep doing what you do and show the world that black guys are good parents One Love and respect from everybody in Trinidad and Tobago

My sons mother and even my momma! thinks I'm too hard on my son, too harsh because I try to instill discipline and structure in his life. I've been having second thoughts about myself and have been really really stressed out because it seems like the whole world is against me. I love my son and I am VERY familiar with making wrong decisions in life so I KNOW what steps he should NOT be taking in order for him to be successful and become a man...thank you Rickey Smiley. You don’t need to apologize nor feel bad about keeping your son out of trouble and out of the streets. If that means giving him a whoopin because he’s acting up and getting in trouble, then that is what you may have to do. It sucks sometimes but it’s keeping him out of a jail cell and six feet under.
We need more men like you. My father and late husband were strong men and they believed in raising men not mommas boys. Whoop there butt when they're young and they wont get killed when they're older. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 Proud black mother here that raises her young black son the same way. His father and Nana are very soft on him but I'm not! It's yes ma'am/no ma'am. Yes sir/no sir. Open up doors for women and the elderly. Pull out chairs. Sit down after a woman has etc. Carry yourself as a king and your goddess will come to you. Same for my daughter. Except NOTHING but the best and NEVER be afraid to eat alone because you know exactly what you bring to the table.
I applaud you Rickey. I just want to clarify a little something that you said, and that is that not all young men raised by their mothers are mama's boys. I was a single parent who raised my son with help from no one. I am also old school from another country, and I didn't play. My house, my rule. Long story short, he graduated with honors from an all boys school in NOLA, went on to ND, then grad school at DePaul. Was it easy? Not one bit. I also took a lot of criticism for my style of raising my son, and my response to that was that he got nobody pregnant, he was never arrested, and he did not hang out on any street corner. You keep doing what you do, and whoever doesn't like it, they can kiss your you know what. Sorry this is so lengthy. 👍
Thanks Rickey/Bruh for standing your ground as you're absolutely correct. it's better that you discipline him than the law and a strong male role model is definitely needed as there too many mama's boys that have no direction in life. It's tough to raise a young black male in a fatherless home. Handle it Rickey!!!!!

Preach Mr, Smiley, I feel the same way as you. That's the problem with our youth, they're following behind their so call friends that's leading them down the wrong path. But listening to a man that's been where there going and know how it is on the streets and in the real world. They don't want to hear what is being said to them. I'm with you 100%. If it was me I would've sent him packing let him find his own house and follow his own rules. Then I wonder how he would appreciate what he has and the father that you are. I agree 100% . This is the way my parents did things raising us. Granted I'm nearly 50 years old, but this is the same way I raised my kids. Letting kids parent themselves and negotiating with them instead of laying down the law is the problem with most of the youth today. Besides many young men having no positive male role model rather it be a Father, Grandfather or Uncle. Seems to me Ricky is raising his kids the way he was raised, apparently it works.
Rickey, you hit the nail on the head! In these days, families are neglecting their position or negotiating with the behavior of children, but don't realize the handicapped results. In return, many of these males will be incompetent to excel in schools, relationships, social development, or obtain a decent job. Even the price of being a father figure or role model is critical because many of our black males are being raised by the streets. If we don't resolve this crisis soon, our young people will grow up to be narcissist, degenerate adults!
I was raised old school and it was a community effort. You can either raise your kids or forfeit them to the system/street.. BTW...I'm anti spanking due to the violence I saw on my family, so I use other forms of discipline..but don't get it twisted...you will get dealt with.

that's a real man talking about telling it like it is! now we are not promoting abuse by no Means but the real fathers out here are reserving out rights to to discipline our young Sons. Ricky was so right when he said that's why they can't find no good men out here because they and many of these guys out here now I have no men in their lives and when we see example of why it's important to have a man and a young boy's life now all of a sudden it's a problem.
