Exactly. I was in the band, so we never paid total attention to the game. But even as a graduate and going back I still didn’t pay attention to the game. There’s nothing like a “high step” high school band or an HBCU band. That’s what makes the game so fun and energetic.
This had me and my wife crying because we went to Morgan State University (HBCU) and played in the band. Both parents introduce band culture being from New Orleans and South Carolina.
went to Morgan also.. and this is spot on..I remember hanging out on the bridge before I walked over behind hurt gymnasium to see the football team and the band practice..love Coldspring and hillen lane..MSU Bear forever.
Went to Notre Dame College close by and we definitely popped up to Morgan every now and then to see the band and the dancers prancing on the field with their capes. 💯
Everyone in my family graduated from an HBCU and this segment had all of us laughing and crying at the same time. The SEC will never understand the importance of having a band that can blow away their rivals from the stands and on the field. Shout Out To The SWAC! #HBCUPRIDE #BRAVENATION
Yasss!! The black college experience is so important. It’s an amazing thing to be around other black people who are smart and in search of higher learning! I danced for Grambling State. I’m so glad I had that experience.
U can't even choose just 1 part of how we do it!!! Highstepping, leaning, rocking, dippin', twirling, how we hold the staff, let alone how we groove & CREATE THE VIBE!!! Like where else?!!🗽🙌🏾🤩🤸🏾♂️
I watched this while eating lunch in the breakroom with ear buds on. I laughed so hard ,I had to spit out my food to keep from choking!!😂😭😂😭 one of my co workers was asking me if I was okay and was getting ready to do the heimlich on me. I could barely speak so I just showed him the video. BIG POOKIE!!!!!😂😂😂
@ Kim Jones, I'm going thru the comment section and no mention of The Sonic Boom of The South and my blood pressure is rising and boom, their you came.Blood pressure is now stable.
I've enjoyed your comedy for years, but this is without a doubt my most favorite of all your sketches and routines. You were spot-on on both sides of the line so the authenticity and attention to detail is much appreciated. As a college bandsmen, the moments in which we see pieces of our story being told come few and far between, so seeing you dedicate a few minutes in your show to spreading love our way is awesome. As an HBCU bandsmen and proud alumni (Norfolk State University "Spartan Legion" Band), I appreciate the respect for our hard work and the excellence we all attempt to bring to the fifty yard line as we continue the legacy and tradition of our great band programs each year in the annual fall ritual that is the backdrop for marching band. I'm sure a lot of other people who also enjoyed this skit got a laugh from the fan's perspective, but I'm personally here to tell you that you gained a place in the hearts of many who have spent time in the ranks over the years. So, keep striving to reach the ultimate plateau, achieve your dreams, do what you do with nothing but excellence in mind, and aspire others to be the absolute best they can be as you get opportunities to pour into those blessed to see and hear you as you've always done. Take Care!!!
Back in the early 90s I went to the FAMU/Southern game at the old Georgia Dome in Atlanta. I asked my friend who had a brother that was an FAMU alumni, " why is everyone gathering in the concourses?" He told me to wait for halftime. Lord behold when halftime arrived, there probably wasn't a single person in the concourses. I haven't seen anything like that halftime show. Unfu**king believable. I am ashamed that I haven't been to another one since. I live in Charlotte and NC has the 2nd highest amount of HBCU'S behind Alabama. With the opening of sporting events, I will be going to as many HBCU games as possible. God bless our HBCU families.
Who’s here in 2021. I have taught and worked with both style of bands. I love them both for being so uniquely different. The kids and staff in both styles work just as hard. Its just a different approach. Overall i do enjoy HBCU for football games and Corps Style for competition season, esp DCI. I am a band nerd for life
Hey Ricky ! I’m white snd I was in marching band in high school. I get pissed because college football don’t show the bands on tv !! The band practices way more than the football players!! They work hard asf!! It should be shown !! Love you so much!!😍🎶😁❤️
I miss going to football games and the band! Lets be clear, whenever football opens up I will be there and won't take a minute for granted. Aggie Pride!
Was in the pit at Lebanon High Tennessee freshman year. For all the love the football teams on Friday Night Lights, band folks thinking “alright y’all, let’s get this right and make sure the kinks are worked out. It’s okay to make a mistake at halftime, an Exhibition”. Saturday was when it mattered!!! “So and so, is your band ready?? YOU MAY TAKE THE FIELD IN COMPETITION!!” I didn’t have a great experience, but would have been proud to have given it one last shot after I transferred to my Christian school.
We don't have a HBCU up here in the Northeast. When I moved to St. Petersburg FL and went to the Rattlers game. I was like how come no one is going to the concession stands. BOOM💣💥 Then I found out man the bands were the reason most people were in the stands.
This is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!! It’s a wonder the bleachers are still standing from all that rocking. Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Miles, Tuskegee, Stillman, Talladega that’s just in Alabama. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen an HBCU Halftime! Nothing but TALENT!❤️❤️❤️
