Truly one of the most moving shows I've ever watch. The humor always gets a laugh, and the hard hitting moments always work, and bring me to tears. Truly amazing writing on Ricky's part, and it's truly made me appreciate him even more as an artist.
Never has there ever been a show to make me laugh my ass off and cry my eyes out at the same time. Ricky is an absolute genius at what he does. Always has been.
I'm 6' 2", 245 lbs. At the age of 67, I can bench and squat 300 lbs., I ride a Harley, and I'm convinced that I'm a manly man . . . and then I watch "After Life" and the last episode of season 3 . . . and none of that matters, and I bawl like a little kid. That RG broke through all the "manliness" and cynicism of fifty years of adult life is a testament to his utter brilliance. None of my other shit matters a whit.
This series truly has been part of my grief journey and healing after losing my sister to cancer, same age as his series wife, Lisa. There were so many parallels. This series has been as therapeutic as the actual grief counseling I’ve attended. The last season has made me laugh so damn hard and sob uncontrollably. This series was a blessing to me. Ricky has a huge heart behind all of the wisecracks. I love just love him ❤️🩹
@@kellikillian8445 Each episode resonated with me on various levels, but I can understand your take. Maybe not as emotional as the other seasons until the final episode. That last episode was floodgates of tears for me albeit cathartic and hope-filled for a future that’s not just gut-wrenching pain. ☮️💟
The way he laughs when someone comes up to tell him a joke that might not be funny but he feels bad for them and he laughs and says it’s funny. That’s a sweet human being. And the way he’ll stop to talk to people when they ask him about David Bowie because it means more to him to say kind words about is friend than to not talk to them cuz they’re pestering him. 💜
I think thats his wheelhouse and wheres hes at his best. Watch Derrick, if you havent already. That one is especially covers very poignant issues, but in a very humorous way without being condescending.
I do love Afterlife, but that guy with the beard and his revolting pervy stories just makes me feel ill. Apart from that, love all the other characters.
This show came out like a week after my mom and stepdad died in a wreck going to my grandmother's funeral. They had bad timing in their drive, but his show had perfect timing for helping me cope. Everyone deals differently with loss, and it was refreshing to grieve alongside Tony. It's a beautifully written story I'll not soon forget.
I didn't find it sad. It give me comfort. Life takes everyone of us lets make it filled with empathy. I laughed and cried and that's what life is. For me it's a masterpiece
The mood of this entire show seemed so bitterly mundane. But every few minutes it's punctured with such wit and stupidity that it's impossible not to burst into laughter. Ricky is pure genius. And what a cast too!
After Life is full of the beauty, humor and tragedy of the human condition...the relationship with his wife was so unique and wonderful ...you never get over losing the ones you love and who love you...Ricky Gervais gave us all a gift...kindness and compassion is the answer... especially now
Thanks for explaining the joke Jimmy! You saved me a ton of confusion. I'm so glad you added the fake laugh afterwards to indicate it was in fact a joke too.
A tremendously funny and sad show. The cast is incredible and the depth of his emotions are heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time. I laugh out loud so hard and I cry too.💜
Afterlife was every emotion rolled into one with a hugely talented cast that had me laughing my head of then crying my eyes out. It’s also one of the only series I feel ended perfectly and at the right time. Although it wasn’t enough so I had to watch the out-takes on RU-vid to keep me belly laughing. 😂
It was such a spectacular and satisfying ending, gutted that there was only 3 seasons. I wish there would have been more but it was hilarious when Tony chucked that cactus at the back of the Range Rover window when the driver couldn't stop at the zebra crossing.
Afterlife is one of the most moving shows I've ever seen. It's a good show to just mellow out and watch but it will definitely make you smile, make you laugh and especially make you cry. Thank you for this gem of a show Ricky Gervais.
"After Life" is an amazing show. I enjoyed every minute of that roller coaster ride of emotions, from the first to the last episode. Can't wait to see what Mr. Gervais creates next. :)
I honestly respect Ricky so much for creating this series and he’s absolutely spot on about the kindness aspect. My dad died when I was sixteen and a year ago, I visited his tree by myself in a graveyard. An elderly woman, walking her dog said three simple words, ‘are you okay?’ Emotionally, this set me on edge, but for good reasons. While I was emotional from losing my dad, I also experienced tears of happiness from a stranger who spread so much kindness and empathy from those three words. I later managed to catch up with her, explained my situation and thanked her for checking in on me. We then talked about her dog for about five or ten minutes. She was honestly so lovely. I will be forever grateful to this woman because I was having a really tough day, so those three words provided me with a real glimmer of hope.
That was an incredible moment in the show. I also loved how he returned to the old lady's house and dropped off the money in her cookie jar after asking to use her bathroom.
It's an EPIC show.. I cried and laughed like crazy, and the final season I'm about to rewatch it because the last episode is SO beautiful.. I love you Ricky!
Love Ricky Gervais and his brilliant wit. Found out recently that he's vegan so love him even more for his nonviolent / compassionate stand for animals. 💞
Was so pissed that it ended at season 3. I thiught there was another season. So pissed about how it ended but that's just cuz i really love the show and didn't want it to end. I feel like it ended really abruptly tho. They definitely shouldve did another season
The Office, Extras, Derek, After Life... All have a very strong signature, but all so gold in their own right. So impressive for him to create so many hits.
That final scene where Ricky walks off and fades out is filmed in the park where I lived as a 12 yr old and where in the school cross country race we had to run up towards the wall, turn round a tree and run back to the finish through the stream. Great memory
My wife keeps telling me to get in shape . . . and I tell her, "I am in shape. Round is a shape." Meanwhile, this man is utterly brilliant. Even Fallon couldn't ruin it with his bootlicking.
Eagerly awaited Season 3. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer just before it was released. Really changed the meaning of the whole series. Thanks Ricky!
Looking forward to watching Afterlife. I could use a laugh always. 2/25/22 will be 3 years since God took my man to be an angel. But he was there to prepare the way for my 2 dogs, my dad & nephew's fiancé son's mother (24 hours after giving birth) all in the same year.
The series was perfect, it showcased suicide a lot which hit close to home, but it was something I needed to hear. I shouldn't go through with it....because like Tony, I have things to do🙏🏾
Even I don't have social media like Instagram anymore, I still enjoy listening at this man. He's amazing, seriously is an outstanding man that you will regret it if you let him go out of your life. He's so inspiring always. I would trust him no matter what, I would really trust him with my eyes closed. After life is amazing. I talked with my telegram and whatsapp friends about the benefits to see Ricky Gervais's after life. And also I want to talk about his shows on twitter, he's amazing. Lots of love from Costa Rica.
One of the funniest things ive ever seen was when the postman asked to use the toilet and ended up in the bath and even ending up avin a splash of his cologne hahaaa I was eating coco pops on my settee at the time ...naked!.
Either jimmy fallon doesn’t understand most of the jokes or thinks everyone else doesn’t why does he explain everything also why was that the clip they picked to show it’s not even in the top 10 best bits of the show
Just binged the three series in 24 hours. Found it absolutely fantastic and he has such an amazing way to observing and writting the most fantastic characters. He should get an Acadamy Award for this one.
Just an absolute masterpiece! I think Ricky has written a piece that gives everyone a little hope with you’ve lost somebody in your life and going through the same things or even to love the people around you better. Really funny great show beautiful message in my top five for sure!! ❤️❤️
The music on it go completely with each scene, it was so great that he got to pick all the music that he wanted cause some of those songs aren't cheap.
Ug. You can see that the host never watched the show. Had no clue. Such a shame. Show is one of the best ever. I cried at ever episode of both laughter and tears.
Jimmy was far too fast he missed to engage into some funny things Rick said . Breathe Jimmy enjoy like Jimmy Kimmel does have a proper and interesting moment with your guests .
i loved this series but honestly believe if he had done it without the bad language it would of been a hit series on the bbc or itv and more people could have seen it and loved it.
My condolences, just give yourself time to grieve, talk to people who will listen let of steam,I am not going to lie to you it could take years the pain will never go away but you will learn to live with it and one day you will wake up and smile and think about all the happy times you had.Take care and let loved ones help you
