Collazo definitely has some skill. They guy can fight on the inside and box on the outside. He also has a reliable defense at times. If he had the right backing he could've been a big deal right now. He arguably beat Hatton and Berto. I haven't watched the Mosley fight yet. He called out Mayweather, but the climb may be to steep. Their talking about matching him with Thurman and that would be a tough bout.
By his own admission this was Ricky's toughest fight. The step up in weight (& the size of his opponent) diminished his own punching power & Collazo's punches were really hurting his body. The knockdown swayed it for him!
Hatton had really skilled offense, the way he setup body head changing angles and cutting off the ring, just lacked good defense. still a damn good fighter Id say hes a top 10 jr welter.
I don't know why some people say it's a robbery... It's just a difficult fight to score because both guys have some success in what they wanted to do. I have it for Hatton but there are many close rounds.
I truly believe calluzo didn’t lose this fight but hatton vs Floyd that was the fight everyone wanted to see 2 undefeated fighters at the time getting ready to clash ..
With Ricky Hatton you always got your money's worth. He wanted a tear up, a war. He never had a boring fight. By his own admission, he wasn't the most talented or gifted boxer, but man he was as tough as they came. He literally would put his face and body on the line to get his punches off. His party lifestyle and weight gains between fights would finally catch up with him, and by the time he met Pacman and Mayweather, they were too technically good for him and his body and chins punch resistance was gone. He will always be a legend and speaks the truth about his fights, why he lost and his mental battles. He says Luis Collazo was his hardest fight, and watching it back you can see why. (Collazo looks twice his size LOL)
This was a draw. Collazo composed himself after the knockdown and worked his way to a competitive finish and if this was a 15 round fight, Collazo would have won by tko. Hatton was dropped in the 12th and it was called a slip and Hatton was a bit on queer street and was saved by the end.
@@markshoe5192 that was a knockdown though. The way Hatton reacted afterwards showed you that he was hurt and was fortunately saved by the bell being the end of the fight.
Collazo was slick quick and tough.and he rocked Hatton BADLY at the end. Hatton was rugged and rough. It was a very tough fight I think that flash knockdown kinda hurt Collazo in the scoring but I think it should have been a draw and Collazo keep his title. Hatton tasted that 147 lb power for the 1st time I think Collazo set the blueprint up to beat Hatton who is wide open for counter shots but Hatton’s swarming attacks just make it tough regardless. Collazo didn’t quite have enough power to drop Hatton but he had enough to get his attention very much so.
Hatton beating Collazo at welterweight killed the Hatton is too small for Mayweather narrative for me. Collazo has been fighting at Welterweight or higher for his entire career.
well said. Styles make fights. The beauty of boxing is the diversity in styles. I think boxing would be a BORING sport in itself if everyone had the same style and just "boxed" or was a "counter-puncher" or a slugger, etc.
no one won this fight "clearly". It was pretty even. "robbed" is the most overused expression in boxing. someone getting a win in a close fight where a case could be made for both men isnt a "robbery"
lol Hatton threw/landed more punches and knocked him down. Hatton has always been an inside fighter/brawler, you can clearly hear Collazo corner say after round 1 "You knew it would be this kind of fight". He shouldn't have taken the fight if he wasn't prepared to be bullied.
It must be upsetting for solid American fighters like Collazo and Hopkins to get robbed of their victories and belts by UK promoted fighters with special interests. These are title fights. You have to do more to win and take their belts. Look at Calzaghe v Bhop. He barely landed a glove on him and they took his belt. Same here with Collazo. He controlled the fight. And they took the belt from him. All because promoters wanted to make bigger coin from the UK fighters down the line. They were building towards Hatton Mayweather. Big money fight selling huge PPV in the UK. Same with Calzaghe and Roy Jones. So they stepped on these good American fighters to make those fights happen. So disappointing.
Look at the punch stats to see how full of shit you are lol Hatton set the pace for 90% of the fight. Threw more and landed more, All the people who know boxing had him ahead.
People who compare Hatton in this fight to the Hatton that fought Senchenko are stupid. Collazo is better than Senchenko will ever be. Callazo has been ducked beyond belief. The 10 - 8 round 1 was the difference, but unanimous decision is baffling.
Hatton was a great fighter but his career was very short at the top due to his style of rushing in and pressuring his opponent while using his face as a catchers mitt for counters.Very exciting guy to watch!
Damn Hatton rehydrated to 158. I knew he gains a lot of weight between fights. He would be a force at Welterweight if he was in his prime today or if he took better care of himself outside the ring.
God I miss Hatton! There isn't many like him, he may be a coke snorting alcoholic but he was our coke snorting alcoholic who still beat up some of the very best in boxing.
Well said, Vegas was always going to finish him with his addictive personality, Hate hearing him criticised though, Mayweather in his peak knew how seriously he had to take Hatton, He was top drawer :)
Hatton is one of the worst one dimensional fighter’s I’ve ever seen. He comes in the same, throws a couple of punches and then grabs, pressing his head against the other guy, and tries a pin them against the ropes. The referee is forced to break them up every few seconds ! He has no understanding of distancing or space. He did this against an aged Tszu. He really is horrible to watch. The best thing to be said about Hatton is that he has come as far as he has off such limited talent!
My boy collazo was so ripped off in this bout.he should of got the bout w mayweather and if he did who knows how that fight would of went.notice floyd never fought collazo and they wete champions in the same era also pacman never ever mentioned collazo name, i wonder why hhmmmm.
i feel ricky lost a close decision . but i have just watched rickys record and he must be the only british champion to dodge nobody when he said he would fight everybody he meant it he may have lost at the very top level but will always have my respect . if ricky had not blown up between fights i feel he would have had a longer career.
@@RustyLongPipe I think undefeated Ricky Hatton before Mayweather at 140lb would have beat cotto at 140lb, he was never the same after Floyd knocked him out
Idk why is everyone is complaining for? Ricky won this fight by the one knockdown that was the key to this fight winner. I've scored this fight 114-113 for Hatton. He won this fight for sure. Now if you wanna talk about robbery? Then let talk about the Berto fight because that was a complete rob to Luis.
But this is the guy they called bum and they surprised that he caught therman wit a good body shot that hurt him lol. He is a veteran in the sport. Not as young as used but still have experience. Therman did a good job. They just have very high expectation for him n expected him to blow thru him lol. He did exactly wat he supposed to n that's outboxed the older crafty veteran n win rnds. If the knockout presents itserlf than go for it. U cnt make a mistake against collazo or it will cost n he did. He got caught wit a great liver shot right in the button n he bounced back like a true champion n continued to dominate on the cards into a tko victory making collazo quit on the stool by busting him up
this is the fight that finished ricky, collazo is a weight above and it showed, he beat him up. i was there and i heard billy graham say in the hotel post fight, he will never put him through that again...
Good fight, close fight. 114-113 Collazo I saw. Could've gone either way. Hatton held his right arm the whole fight. (They should've complained much more). Watch it with the sound off
The amount of points that should of been deducted for excessive holding is astonishing. Robbery at its finest. Round 7 and 8 were clear Collazo rounds. Commentators gave it to him because he's "aggressive", that's a laugh. Effective aggressiveness is what we're looking for fellas. Definite bias with the commentators notice the usage of the words " Intensity " and " relentlessness" but at no point they they mention Collazos 3 piece combination punches. Seriously rewatch 7 and 8 muted.
There was some bias, but your point about rounds 7 and 8 just aren't true IMO. For example, look at this boxing scorecard website: eyeonthering.com/boxing/british-are-back-luis-collazo-vs-ricky-hatton Almost no one said Collazo won those rounds.
@@markshoe5192 those are irrelevant scorecards of fans who were spoon fed the commentators pro-Hatton “let’s build that mega fight with Mayweather” narrative. Of course, they’re cluelessly gonna listen to whatever the commentators say. Ricky was hitting air both round 7 and 8. Seriously, watch it objectively. Collazo was scoring on the back foot while Hatton was tying Collazo up and hitting while holding. Slow it down if you need to. The untrained eye will 100% miss the beautiful boxing collazo put on that round and give the round to hatton because the commentators felt he needed it.
@@markshoe5192 for every one punch Hatton lands or so it appears to land due to collazos strategy of parrying and rolling with the punches, collazo lands 5. His defense was put on full display. Take @34:10 for instance
I got Hatton by a point maybe two. That knockdown was key. Definitely a fair decision in my opinion since by rounds I think Hatton won but he ALSO got the knockdown and Collazo did not. He needed to do what he did in the 12th round in the FIRST round after regaining his senses. No excuse to not pull the trigger in my opinion. Hatton took his best shots in the 12th and kept his composure and fired back. Collazo gave Hatton way too much respect throughout the fight and didn't let his hands go enough. Still a great fight though and both guys did well!
Bruh. Every time he clubbed Hatton, he grabbed him like a ballroom dancer. Stop it. I can see a draw but he got his ass kicked. You can clearly see who got the worst of it.
@@yourmomgoestocollege3242 Hatton won the 1st minute hands down. Collazo came back and won the 2nd minute hands down. The final minute of the round was close until the end when Hatton made him stumble and that's what decided the round for me. But hey, difference of opinion is what makes the sport what it is.
@@yourmomgoestocollege3242 What 7 rounds did Collazo win to earn a draw??? I have Collazo winning 5-6 rounds of this fight max. People say he won this fight only because he left an impression in their minds for the good 12th round he had. Hatton was the better man on the night.
@@yourmomgoestocollege3242 actually watch round 2. The first minute Hatton's landing hard shots and more than Collazo. Then at the last few seconds knocks Collazo back with a hard shot. What did Luis land in that round apart from a few shots to Hatton's body?
No matter what anybody says Ricky was a fierce fighter with a good chin fighting above his weight most of the time in the USA and only got beat by the greats of his generation.Well done ricky lad.
Ricky the Wrestler. Now I remember why I wasn’t a Hatton fan, especially when he fights south paws. Head butts galore, stepping on feet non stop. Tremendous fighter, a champion, just not a boxer that’s easy to watch.
@@Johnacegaynor too much holding. Not every fight, but some. I’ve gone and watched most of his fights. He was the top guy, and probably could have fought any way he wanted. What was he like 43-3 or something. That’s a great fighter.
@@peterparsons7141 fighting in and out of the clinch is part of the game and a rule alot of people forget is allowed if you got one arm free you let the fighters fight out of the clinch im guesssing that fat cheater Joe Cortez forgot that when the mayweather camp paid his fat ass off
@@peterparsons7141 clinch is part of the game. it either works or it doesnt. same with maywetaher who moves and mostly only counters. it takes the excitement out the fight but it works end of story.
@@Johnacegaynor it’s not the end of the story. I was never a big Mayweather fan either. I found many of his fights too defensive. His defence first, was smart, and he won the boxing match which is the name of the game. Sometimes it’s not exciting to watch, especially when both fighters are defence first. Professional Boxers want to have lots of fans wanting to pay to see their fights, and be exciting to watch. In close fighting doesn’t have to be all clutch/grab. Think Mickey Ward/Arturo Gatti… fight of the year, and sold a ton of views. Made both guys stars and rich. And those fights were fought very close, without much holding unless they both wanted a rest.
Emanuel Lopez Boxing is a money racket and most money rackets are fixed to make the most $$.. It's not that the Judging is bad it's that the Judges are on the take and are bribed by Promoters or whoever is making the money to fix their scores.. Whichever fighter has the potential to make the most money in future bouts will usually Always get the nod in a decision and when BOTH fighters are Big Money earners for their promoters the fight is fixed for a Rematch so that the fans will pay to see a bad decision loser gain his revenge on a so called winner.. And it has gotten so blatant that it's not even hidden anymore..
