Congrats to the Rooster. I was worried that NASCAR wasn't going to recognize all of his accomplishments from his era and there were MANY. So happy they did. He absolutely deserves it!!!!! Congrats Ricky. You were my favorite driver. I had the pleasure to watch you race for about 20 years of your career. I have many die-cast cars, trading cards, a bobble head and an autograph. I still watch highlights here on RU-vid.

Some say his stats don't stack up. I'll say this about Ricky Rudd he raced for nearly 3 decades and he was relevant damn near every one of those years. Ricky Rudd was a threat to win a race from 1981 all the way until 2005. Only hall of famers have that kind of real competitive longevity. You didn't see Ricky Rudd his last 10 years just driving in circles mid pack. He was a championship threat in 2001 at age 45. He was striking distance to making a pass for the win at Kansas in 2004 at age 48 in the Wood Brothers Car. The man could flat out drive and he performed in any equipment he was in.

Well, Ricky rudd won the 1997 brickyard 400, overcame a scary Daytona flip on 1984, taping his eyes open just so he could race in the Daytona 500 that year, beat a failed cooling system to win at Martinsville in 1998 and won his final race at Sonoma in 2002 at the age of 45. He also had solid points finishes throughout his career despite not winning a title. I think Ricky's tough enough to get into the HOF.
