As a former lawyer, who broke the law, went to jail, came back to become a judge, having experienced both sides of the jail bars, I now try to convince criminals of the fact that jail can be the best solution for a specific amount of time.
Despite Ricky's lack of academic knowledge, criminal activity, rage, his Rickyisms and personal problems, I have to respect and admire his ability to be happy with so little and so easily. Yes, he loves to get drunk and to get high, but apart from that, he just wants to be with his buddies, have some good food and (even in his own distorted way) to be there for Lucy and Trin; and that's it. So yeah, he might be my favorite of the trio. It shouldn't take rocket appliance to be happy with simple things and we should all try to let everything be water under the fridge
The main thing that makes me envious of Ricky (and people like him IRL) is how he can be content and happy with the small things in life. A chunk of pepperoni and a beer, hanging out with other cons in jail and smoking weed, having a family that, despite being trashy, is still a family, etc. I think Ray is the embodiment of this type of person, but Ricky fits it pretty well too
Just give up, don’t deserve anything as a result, and then be pleasantly surprised when something good happens like eating, or showering, or idk not being in prison
The key is to stop obsessing over what you don't have. It's hard since society tries to program us to never be satisfied (otherwise how would any company make money off us?), but really, if you have friends and family, your health, somewhere safe to sleep and a drink and something you like to eat, you've already got more than a lot of people in the world. Of course don't abandon all dreams and ambition, but if you can balance being happy with what you have vs some *reasonable* plans to patch up a few of the holes, you can really be happy without much and a lot happier than people who have five hundred receipts for things every single month. I guess a bit of strategic low-key law breaking can come in handy, too, but you didn't hear that from me. ;)
It's not that hard, just be mindful and appreciative. Of course, keeping the negative thoughts and cravings away is the hard part, but savoring the small things is not hard to do, you have to change the perspective yourself.
@@victorygarden556yup, actually super simple. Understand everything is a gift, never take it for granted. Sudden death or unexpected changes that rip things away makes it pretty clear we were never really owners to begin with. It's ego that wants more, tries to clutch onto things it believes it has dominion over, and is ultimately responsible for our dissatisfaction; don't feed the beast. Be grateful for what one does have and the ability to be satisfied with the simple drastically improves 🙏
@@victorygarden556That's how I live my life, everyone else around you will criticize you but I think deep down their spirit is agitated because they aren't content and probably never will be.
I’ve literally known a few guys like this that I grew up with in the 80’s and 90’s, and they are the ONLY ones that are still friends with me to this day.
Ricky is actually a stand up dude. Sure he smokes and drinks, but he isn’t a mean drunk, and out of all the times Lucy has cocked him over and cheated on him, he still loved her. Up until Suzan. He did what he thought was best for Trin. And was always loyal. I miss this show. It’s the way we as fans see through the fuckery, to see that there is actually depth and substance in that show

I was reminiscing about jail today at work, which is why I came to this clip. Local overnight lock up sucks because there’s nothing to do - just you in a room. But county slams are kind of great. Just eat, sleep, read and do a little cleaning every morning, before retiring for a post-breakfast nap; not disturbed until lunch time. Kind of a luxe lifestyle. There’s no women which sucks because interacting with them is the nicest part of life, but still kinda nice being away from the real world. I guess I should mention, too, that despite three meals a day you’re always a bit hungry because the food seems somehow “watered down.” But the next meal is never distant and so you really enjoy what you get and look forward to the next one
The way Ricky’s character says random shit that makes no sense but at the same time makes complete sense if you look at it from his perspective of life is amazing. The entire cast is insanely talented
@@jesusiskingofkingss just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to be stupid. People think being smart is about book knowledge and education level but these can only get you so far in life where as common sense has endless possibilities.
I got lost driving to the Aquarium in Baltimore. Holy cow, I gave up stopping for stop signs and red lights. Too dangerous. There was a house that fell into the street. Just a huge pile of bricks sprinkled with trash. It looked like a WW2 scene. I went to school in North Philly and took the subway a lot so I'm not afraid to walk the streets, but Baltimore is hell on crack.
Jail is f***in horrible lol but im in midwestern America so maybe its just different here. No smoking, filthy living conditions in the jails here. I walked around barefoot in there cus i didnt know any better at first lol what an awful choice
@@samlosco8441here in Alberta they’re pretty bad. Only good thing is you get 3 meals a day atleast. The food isn’t great though. They lock you up for 23 hours a day sometimes 24 if there was something crazy that happened that day in the jail and when they do let you out of your cell it’s not even in a yard just a little bit larger of a area then your tiny cell.
How is no smoking horrible? Smoking is a disgusting filthy habit for low iq people, so it seems your jail was infact more clean that you're body ever where
We're talking about a comedy show. In real life yes prison is not good, and it's not supposed to be. If someone ever wants to go to prison then something has gone very wrong with incentives...
This is, where Canadians take their wisdom from! 😂 Not much of an improvement, from British sent individuals, to this continent, for being mentally inept!
