If you're one of the people asking for another Riddle School game, please watch this video and try to understand my perspective. If you're _not_ one of the people asking for another Riddle School game, I deeply appreciate it! If you see anyone asking me to make more games in this series, it'd help me out if you could direct them to this commentary. Because of the former group of people, I plan to stop reading RU-vid comments, starting either today or tomorrow. For how long, I don't know, but it'll be stress-relieving for me to take a nice long break from viewer interaction.
In the Quiz slide puzzle at the end of the game, it looks like a blue Sans the Skeleton head. Was Quiz's character design based on Sans from Undertale?
Death threats? Man I didn’t know the demands were that bad. Unless it was just that one person. But still. Being trapped under what got you popular is always a sucky thing to deal with. You can never do other stuff because they expect you to be the “Riddle School Machine”. I feel you. But this game was absolutely gorgeous. And nonetheless I respect any decision you made or would have made and just be grateful for what you created for our childhoods!
I really hope Breadcrumbs and Beaver Spit sorta becomes like the fandom's calling card. Like the way we recognize each other. GUY 1: "Hey." GUY 2: "What?" GUY 1: "Breadcrumbs and beaver spit." GUY 2: "Fuck YEAH, breadcrumbs and beaver spit!"
That ending made me legit tear up and I'm not normally the type to do that especially over a flash game but then again this feels more than a flash game, it transends the medium of which it was made and becomes a heartwarming series that represents you as a person. I was 14 when I played the first game and I won't lie and say it made some massive impact on me but it was a nice fun series and I enjoyed each one. Funny enough I completely forgot about Riddle Transfer and its sequel being cancelled but in someways maybe that's the best otherwise I would've been one of those irritating fans bugging you to make it. Your music choices are superb by the way, I keep listening to the credits theme and ClockWorks over and over again. Anyhow wish you all the best JonBr- I mean Jonochrome in your future endeavours and also for Smiley and Phil as well.
I remember playing this when I was about 8. I desperately wanted closure for this game for about many years now, but I didn't know that it would be... this. Thank you, Mr. Developer, for completing this game for us all.
I was on notdoppler.com with only access to the first two games and riddle transfer. I was also 8, and it was interesting, but I wasn't completely invested in it, I was more interested in other games on the site.
"By doing this, it would basically become the same exact plot as the first Riddle Transfer, and that seemed a little bit redundant to me" -Jonochrome, creator of Riddle Schools 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5
I said it before, and I'm proudly saying it once more. This game is too beautiful! The ending where Quiz sacrificed himself made me tear up again, and I just love seeing how Phil and his friends turned out. Although, I don't quite know how Phred's future went(I'll just assume he's some sort of teacher who hangs an assignment on the board and tells his students everyday that doing one thing can make an impact), but it's still great to see such a turnabout for them all! If ever there was a great ending for a game series, this was certainly one for the books!
Hey, Jonochrome. I'd just like to say that I agree with your decision entirely. You tried your hardest to try and lift the weights of your back and you succeeded. Besides, every good thing has to come to an end. No matter how great and acknowledged. Good job, Jonbro. Good, job.
Riddle school and ONAF. No matter what your next game is, I'm sure it will be damn good. Keep up the good work, and I'm excited to see what comes next.
Applehead 2 I'd never really heard of that one. I was listing the two series of his that I was most familiar with. What is Undercook? Sounds like an Undertale fangame/parody.
Riddle school was always one of my favorite games when I was younger. I would always have to search up walkthroughs to help me with a puzzle. Dantdm also played. Thank you jonochrome, for an amazing childhood. Bread crumbs and beaver spit.
It's been one hell of a ride Jon, I've personally been with you since a bit before you started your letsplay channel (Back then my handle was AwesomelyJames) and I've absolutely loved watching your content/playing it for myself. It's absolutely crazy how far you've come not only as a developer but as person, and I (personally) can say that you are an absolutely amazing person for wrapping up this absolutely wonderful series. We the fans have been and will continue to be with you Jon!
Even if you never read this, I would love to say thank you for making this series, and finishing it, at that. The ending made me super happy, as I really liked Smiley, and her and Phil being together is just the best.
Jonochrome Riddle School has been one of your best series so far. Really looking forward to seeing other games of yours. Riddle School will forver be in my memories.
I've been binge watching all these developer commentaries over the course of two days and it feels like nostalgia hit me like a freight train. In a way I feel like I grew up alongside these silly little browser games (and let's be honest, we've all wanted to bust out of school like Phil did in this series.) In a way I'm sad to see the series end, but at the same time I'm glad that it ended on a satisfying high note. Thank you Jonochrome for these games, and good luck with all your future endeavors.
Proud of you that you found the motivation you needed to continue the series. I remember playing the previous games when I was a kid, and when you released the final game a month or so ago, the kid in me just jumped for joy. I respected your reasons for not wanting to continue at the time, but I'm still proud that you made the final one. Keep on making great games, man ♡
I started playing this game as 3rd grader bored in school playing riddle school 1 out of sheer Boredom. The weirdness was well.. Weird but I'd quickly grew on I moved on to riddle 2 then 3 and 4 and 5 and I was in love with little series of flash games and now that's finally over am just awash with a bittersweet and nostalgic feeling I loved every last bit of this game and now you another dedicated follower and fan. As hard as it may have been to complete this game I and everyone else appreciates all the blood sweat and tears you poured into this. I could go on forever but I'll wrap. Your great man. I love your work and I plan on following it closely. I'm looking forward to new game of yours and I can't wait to see it. Goodbye and Good luck. Never give up
Really cool to watch you revisit all this. For all for the frustration this series gave you, listening to you here in particular makes it obvious that the Riddle Games still hold a really special place in your heart, and are really important to you. Thanks for sharing your smart ass humor with me growing up. SO YOU'RE A BEAR.
I remember seeing my brother playing riddle transfer, and then years later I re discovered it. So thanks Jon for truly creating such a fun and beloved series
Just goes to show you, if you make fun of a girl when you're little, you'll get kidnapped by aliens and also end up marrying that girl later on after saving the world.
I know this was published a while ago but this series was such a huge part of my childhood, i remember not even being old enough to ever finish any of the games by myself and always getting stuck. but i kept coming back to them, and i don't remember any flash games that i ever got attached to as much as this one. i played these games for years, and i grew up with them. so just thank you for entertaining me, it's awesome to see the person who made these games that i enjoyed so much.
I don't know what to say here. Another part of my childhood has just come to an end. I was so happy when I found RT2 had burst from development hell and found its way onto NG. But even more so, it Phils me with Eggtreem determination (I can't believe I just said that) to know that you powered through to create a satisfying finale, a series finisher which means a new beginning for you. I guess the best thing is just for me to post my NG review for RT2 here so I could let you know how much this series has meant to me. "I cried. When the game started, I cried the tears of nostalgia. When it ended, I cried those of the bittersweet. Not much, just a little, but enough. I've never had a NG account before this, but I needed to spill some feels, since Riddle School is my favorite series of flash games. It appealed to me to see an unrefined, yet quirky art style paired with humour bordering on and often crossing the line of absurdity. It appealed to me to see a developer about my age passionate about his art. To see how Jon, alongside Phil and the Riddle games themselves, became wittier and overcame trial after trial. To see Jon grow as a person, just as Phil and gang have. To see how now, Jon has distilled everything he's learned so far into something that just feels good, emotional when you don't know why. Riddle School is not a good series because it is everything a good game should be. It is a good series because it found its niche and grew up to fill it. And I'd say the end result is worth quite a bit more than bread crumbs and beaver spit, wouldn't you?" I don't know how I became connected to such a simple flash game series. Maybe it was just keeping up with the dev and seeing the struggle between the lines. Hopefully, this didn't feel too stiff or melodramatic. I've just never made a comment on this series until now, after nearly (8 years, I think?), and needed to get it all out. Thanks for the memories, Jon. I'm still rooting for your future, and I'm sure the rest of us are too. Do what you want to do, and do it the best you can, because we'll be supporting you.
Though you did say you just wanted to end this series, to me, what you created, good sir, was a true masterpiece that I can't even look away from! You really did do an amazing job with the RS series! It actually inspired me to do graphic novels and ever since, I actually have the Riddle School series and of course, you, Jonochrome, to thank! Seriously, you really helped me find my interest in doing graphic novels, and I also improved a lot ever since! Thank you very much Jonochrome, for creating this series! :)
I was never really around for Riddle School (I was 3 when it first came out) but seeing these videos, especially this one, I feel that this series is something special, not just a few games, but a catalyst for many fantastic games to come out in the future.
What a good way to end the series! Fans of RS: BRIND BACC RIDEL SCOOL IY WOANT RIDDEL TRENSFER TREEE Woah, calm down. The series is over. Did you not see the last picture in the photo album? Edit: No, I didn't literally mean I want more Riddle School games. I'm fine with the series being over, quoting in RS4: "Just as every book has a start and a finish, a series must have a beginning and an end. I deliberately sucked all the room for another sequel of this series so that it, too, may end" Get it?
Today I looked up Riddle School one last time because of all the memories I had with the series. Then I saw Riddle Transfer 2, I shouted and cheered in joy. Hands down best flash game series ever!!
In 2016 when this this game came out, I played it and when I got to the end, there was just, well an empty feeling. 2 years later. I had completely forgot about Riddle School/Transfer (despite mentioning it time to time) I watched the end of the series and I literally, went to bed, and cried. Thank You, for everything.
I haven't known about this for a long time, but these games are amazing, you have skills. It all ended so well, that I wouldn't change a thing nor make a new game to this series. It's perfect how it is, lets not ruin it with games that don't have passion behind them. What ever you do, make sure your happy with it. Have a lovely day. :)
I've always loved your games Jon, scince my brother showed me riddle school 3 I played all of them. This one let my childhood go to rest. Thank you Jon.
this was a perfect commentary to come back to...oh the nostalgia....i still thank you jon for making this series......welp, time to *go read a good book....*
Jonbro, you're amazing. Not only did you work so hard to make a game so amazing that a bunch of elementary school kids could touch my heart, you literally put a huge thank you in your last game to the RU-vidRS that played it. NO one does that. Jonbro, you really made an amazing game series with an amazing, tearful ending. Thank you.
I swear when they jump into the portal they show 4 different jumping references. Phil does the famous Mario jump animation Phred does the mega man jump animation And smiley does cave story's jump animation Is that just a coincidence or did I find an easter egg?
Jonochrome, you're great at this. I'm satisfied with all your games and their endings, riddle school, onaf, and undercook! Your games make me a lot happier and they make me feel better when I'm sick. You make my life great!
Jon, I am thinking of making a game called Riddle Filler. Its a game that fills the gap between the ending of Riddle Transfer 2, where Smiley and Phil hug, all the way to when they are elders. Now, the pictures technically fill up the gaps, but I want to fill up the gaps between the pictures, add some animation and dialog to the pictures, so it might be a long game. XD! Because it goes from child to elder. So, 2 questions. 1. Where did you learn to code? I have been searching on the internet for a while, but I still can't figure out how to code. Well, it teaches me, but I don't learn anything on how to code to make it look like Riddle School. and 2. Can I make the game? I think it would be fun. I will give you full credit for the series though.
It sucks when games like this ends because you get so attached to the characters and it's hard to say good bye. Other than that, I'm so glad you finished the series. I don't think there was any other way to end the series. Thanks for 10 years Jonathan
man I almost cried!! I still can't believe that it's over but I'm sooooo glad on how it ended. :). I thought about asking Jonochrome if he could make another one with their kids but then I just didn't. I thought that this was a great end, a great place to stop. I'm proud of Jonochrome, I'm proud he made another one, people that are asking Jonochrome to make another, Stop. because this is the end and that should be okay with you. anyways I had a great journey playing this game and I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! It's my favorite game, and I'm not exaggerating.
I can't believe I just found this series. You were my childhood, Riddle school defined the type of games I enjoyed. I owe my world view to you. It was a blast to watch through this series and relive the nostalgia one last time. I've never cried over a game before. Thank you for my childhood. Me finding this channel of yours was a complete accident, I had completely forgotten about the flash game scene except for a game called Realm of The Mad God which I still play to this day. I was looking over the One Night at Flumpty's commentary and noticed the J of your pfp and reminded me of the intro animatic from various flash games. I checked further into your channel and found out that it was you. I'm so glad I rediscovered this series and rediscovered you. Thank you
I'm one of those who don't want another riddle school game, because riddle transfer 2 had a perfect ending in my opinion, and making another one might ruin it
Riddleschool will forever hold a very special place in my heart. Its just one of those things that stick with you. Thank you for making this series. Every year i take the time to watch these developer commentarys and take a trip down memory lane and with covid going on right now i did it alittle early this year. Im looking foward to all the different games that you put out in the future.
Reading the special features made me reflect on my own life. Recently, I had a mindset to be the best I can in what I excel to make up for whatever I lack. And the reason was to prove myself to other people. That sounds dumb now that I think about it. I shouldn't care how others see me, or how I want them to see me. I'll just continue being the best me I can be. Also, you inspired me to be more positive, to have a positive outlook on life. It gives me more reasons to smile, aside from the braces I recently got. Thank you Jon for everything... I say everything because there's so much that I must thank you for that I don't know where to start. So to sum it all up, thank you for the Riddle School series, and the memories that came with it.
Jon If you're reading this I have a question. Ever since you said that the kids were young and that you wanted them to be bald, then why did Richy have hair in the first ever riddle school? xD Also i love your games especially Riddle school Thank you for making this series to become a part of my life! :')
That question about Richy is a good one that I hadn't even thought about. I guess just on the spur of the moment, I wanted to try something different. Thank you for the kind words! I'm really glad you've enjoyed the series :)
The riddle series always made me happy, it made me love point and click adventure s and puzzles. You're amazing thank you for all your hard work over the years
i think something good to update is to add a hard mode which just makes everything harder except the quiz quiz! maybe in the hard mode there would be an alt ending (which is non-cannon) which phil grabs the glue and the soap he had and gave it quiz as a weight for the gas petal and urges quiz to come with him! so they both get into the space pod and quiz throws the items on the gas petal and they both fly back too earth and then diz dies while quiz, phil and everybody else survives and then things will happen as normal just with quiz there and post credits there will be diz on a computer playing a rage game and he kept dying over and over and just raged and got so angry that he was going to freeze the earth for having human who made this terrible game and thus the finale happened! also before anybody talks who cares about grammer i have good idea!
Gotta admit, I don't think a point-and-click game would benefit from a hard mode. Hard modes make sense for games where most of the gameplay is in the execution, because it tests your timing, reflexes, precision, etc. but Riddle School is just a game series where you figure things out in your head and click unmoving buttons. By asking for new all-new puzzles to be designed, what you're essentially asking for is not an "update" but a new game, and I'm done with this series.
