We took two hopper loads of ballast to the end of the Eastern Extension on Sunday, May 14 to spread out on a thirty foot section of track that we had just put down. Steve Berish is our engineer and Brad Mandeville is our conductor today. Our railroad is still quite short but we are on a major push to build about 300 more feet of track this year.
As Steve brought the train up the hill the Brookville had enough of a load on it to actually blow some of the carbon out of the engine! Usually it barely gets out of idle but the new grade is giving it a workout. You may also notice that our grade crossing signal is too close to the track. That is going to be moved to the other side of the extension fairly soon.
Next we will be spending some time on 58 with an eye toward waking her up for the year very soon.

I love how the grip is just stuck onto the diesel like one day someone just decided “We need that grip over here but I don’t wanna go back and forth for it so I’m just going to stick on the diesel

Nice to see the railroad coming along so quickly! The Brookville sounds excellent coming up the hill, too, great work all round!

Yes it is doing much better now that we put a real Holley carb on it.

Imagine buying a gasket kit for the carb at an auto parts store. "Year make and model?" "Uh....it's not going to be on your computer, I promise that."

@@joetcacciola Tractor Supply usually has stuff like that and some parts stores but sure not all. Best bet is online from Jacks or some place like that. They can run the numbers. Least that's what I've found but we have a NAPA that's good about it too. Blessings to U!

That's a decent little climb up the curve there, should make the 58 bark a little bit at least 😁
@YoungstownSteelHeritage
@YoungstownSteelHeritage 4 года назад
When the curve is raised and tamped to its final elevation, it will be a 3.5% grade to climb. That ought to make 58 sound pretty good going up it. We will find out soon enough. Maybe a month or so from now the hill track will be ready.

Weld some electical viberators on to the 2 red cars so that you do not have to hit them with a pipe.

Are there plans to make an entire loop of track for this 2' gauge railroad? that way it can go around endlessly instead of back-and-forth

Go to the local John Deere store and buy a gallon of graphite lubricant paint and paint those hoppers. It will make them clean out SO much better. Don't try to stand in those hoppers after you paint them though as you won't be able to. lol

That has already been thought of. We did that with the side dump car last year.

Great to see your projects coming along well. A dumb question. Is your Brookville switcher powered by a Ford V8. Thanks 😊 for showing this video.

@Peter Hann You are correct :) When they picked this locomotive up, it had a seized Ford Flathead engine in it. They replaced it with a Ford 302.

All these videos are doing is making me want a large acreage so I can put in a narrow gauge railway. I'm not sure if it would be the large land size that would justify the trains or the trains that would justify the large land. However, I do not care. ¿Por qué, no los dos?

@shanewalters4171
@shanewalters4171 4 года назад
It is about 600 feet from the parking lot to the tunnel, with the extension, I'm not sure yet considering it's still getting built, probably will be finished in a few more months or so. The track gauge at the place is 2 feet, it's one of the very few 2 foot gauges left here in the US, I believe a majority of the 2 foot gauge resides in Maine

when J&L railway rolls off the tongue better then J&L Railroad. Railroad and Railway mean the exact same thing regardless. It doesn't matter
