The melody. The harmony. The jangly Byrds-like 12 string guitar. The coming and going power chords. Wow! This is an absolute masterpiece of the shoegaze era and all of pop/rock quite frankly. Absolutely love it!
But it took this later generation to reach this level of old soul-ness. Us boomers (I'm 67) just didn't have this yet. Sometimes I think David Crosby was beginning to "get it". But then he fell into drugs and apart.
Ironically, i don’t think there’s any 12 string on this song. We could go by the guitars they use here (Gretsch and 6 string Ric), and i know they used a few cheap amps and Roland GP-16s for effects.
Rickenbacher guitars tend to split the signal of sound, creating an aural illusion of 12 strings with just 6. It's so crystalline and brilliant. I wanted a Rick ever since I was a toddler- no joke.
I read about Ride in my high school newspaper in 1991. I thought, "cool, I'll check 'em out." Got distracted by 1991 and all the INSANE music that came out that year. Spent the next 3 decades going through that plus all I missed. Finally getting to Ride and it's safe to say they'll be joining R.E.M. as one of my all-time favorites. I missed out on so many years of enjoyment!
Drove past the sign for Sennen last year on way to Lands End. I smiled to myself. Beautiful song. Most underrated band ever! I used to own the Today Forever promo VHS. Still do, but God knows where it is.
Indeed they would but these past 2 generations haven’t a clue about music but if they did this would be top of the charts, but it’s way too superior for the charts👌😎
We were such lucky people to get this band in our lives. Almost every song a gem. Indie kids before Indie meant shite-talking, headline-grabbing Gallagherisms.
Eyes aflame, she ran away, I will be where I want to be. Need some space to be alone, Need a place to call my own. Can't stay here another day, Thank awhile, walk away. People wonder where she's gone, All they see's a strange shaped stone. They'll never invade her now.
Went there on holiday this year. Sennen (Cove) is a really beautiful place. It's basically Land's End without the commercial shit. Only a couple of miles away and still "land's end" anyway). Had food in a pub called First and Last Inn. Really good too. Love this track and always have done.
Cyrus Budd Thanks for the tidbit info. Was always wondering what the title referred to...and what the lyrics were talking about. I remember when the song came out...I looked up the word "Sennen" and the encyclopedia made a reference to some sort of stone? Haha! Anyways the video makes TOTAL sense now thanks...
I've been following Ride music since I was a teenager. And the "RIDE III" album, recently released, is a fantastic rebirth of "Going Blank Again". So guys, well, well done. You've become yourselves again, with the beautiful noise you create. Thank you.

I have genealogical roots in Sennen Cover and spent a couple of weeks there healing after a particularly rough time. I just found this lovely song. Can you tell me if the lyrics have meaning that connects to Sennen? If so, I'm missing them. Even so, I am adding this to my playlist. Just beautiful.
When I hear RIDE described as a "shoe gazing," band, my panties get really bunched up. It's like calling the Jam a "new wave," band. Just ridiculous. RIDE are a phucking rock band... and one of the greatest ever.
Sennen is a location in Cornwall. One of the most amazing beaches you’ll find. I don’t know where they filmed this video but it wasn’t at Sennen. Great toon though. I prefer Twisterella.
I agree. Oasis has some lovely pop songs but Ride has atmosphere, depth, and darkness. Everyone from Radiohead to Coldplay has been influenced by Ride.
JABA 82 But not as good as The Verve (check out their first album if you haven't heard it, it has a kind of similar vibe to Ride bu more psychedelic and soulful).
for me this was Ride's peak, a more tempered, cleaner and mellow sound following on from gritty heavy and enticing shoegaze of Nowhere before they embarked on the downward path of Going Blank which opened the way for the whole Britpop ie Oasis rock circus
I thought I was a huge RIDE fan. Ive seen them live back in 1991. However, I have never heard these songs. Unreal. One of the greatest bands ever .Even RIDE b-sides lay waste to most bands hits. I hope they play Cleveland, Ohio again.
I remember I bought a Tamborine for my Hi Hat stand after this video ! bloody thing kept falling off the stand and could never hear it as needed the clamp fixed for the cymbal ! big waste of money but I didnt care as I has found this song... I knew it would last forever .....
