Looks great Simon, you’ve inspired me to put my name down for next year. I will be getting the train from Cowdenbeath in Fife down to Carlisle then once I’ve made it to Cramond, I will cycle onto Cowdenbeath, so it will be 💯+ miles. Looking forward to it.👍🏻

If you come across this video as you are thinking about doing RTTS...... do it!!! its fantastic , I would say its a relatively easy 100 , the beeftub aint so bad and you get the rewarding downhill for over 20km. riding through the night is a great experience and everyone is so friendly, I cycled myself but chatted to numerous riders..... just do it , you wont regret it

Excellent! I may have to give it a go next year. It's seems a bit like the Dunwich Dynamo (which I've done a few times) but with free beer!
@alwaysanotheradventure

That’s what it’s based on. I’ve done a podcast coming out later this year and the full story is in there. They should call it Ride to the Free Beer - people would go faster.

Hi brilliant video once again can i ask what front light was you using on your bike thanks
@alwaysanotheradventure
@alwaysanotheradventure Год назад
Thanks Steven. The front light was Cateye and I had one on my helmet as extra in the really dark/potholed bit. This is the set up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-153lffRqsqs.html However, I also had lights in my pedals - Redshift Sports new Arclight Clipless which added a huge amount to my available light. I’ve done a video about them but it won’t be live for a while because they’re having production issues. No point is saying how great they are if no one can buy them.

From memory there was more than a thousand around 2018 when I first filmed it for the BBC. They’ve almost had to start again after Covid but numbers are building. I don’t normally like riding with loads of people (hated La Marmotte) but this is so different because there is no start of finish time and people spread out.

One thing randonneurs learn pretty quickly is how annoying- and dangerously hypnotizing - flashing taillight are. Steady red lights folks, please.

Agreed if you're cycling at roughly the same speed to someone with a flashing light. For visibility, research has shown flashing lights 3x more conspicuous to drivers than static.

If people park their car near the start & then ride the 100 miles. How are they then getting back to the start? I'm guessing nobody would be able to ride it in reverse?
@alwaysanotheradventure
@alwaysanotheradventure 6 месяцев назад
Train is one way. Ride both ways is another. Some go in groups and have multiple vehicles, some with support. But the main way is to use the coaches and bike transport laid on my a local scout group - works very well if you book early.
@gordonblair8662

Loved the video Simon, but I’m curious! Did you do the ride on a road bike or your gravel bike. I’m down to do the ride next year and as I only have a gravel bike, my conundrum is to put road tyres on my gravel bike or buy a new road bike.
@alwaysanotheradventure
@alwaysanotheradventure Год назад
You just want me to say buy a new bike don’t you David? 😁😁😁 You don’t need a gravel bike, and I have a decent road bike, so I used that. However, people used all sorts of bikes for this because it’s not a race, you go at your own pace. It helps if you have some idea how long it will take you so you don’t miss sunrise. If you are going with your gravel bike, check out the Panracer Gravel King Slicks. They were on the Fara All Road I Road in the video that went live yesterday and they’re great on tarmac. They won’t make a heavy gravel bike light but they roll very well.
