Great idea! The Chuckboxes for sale on the internet are $300+, made of wood and heavy. The large or medium box may be enough to store my compact cook gear and the rest can store camp gear. Just need to figure how to create flat surfaces on the boxes to hold the burner and do meal prep. Perhaps the open lid can be propped up to act as a flat surface.
I've been looking for ideas for camp kitchen organizers, this is a pretty good idea. It seems like it would be a pretty reasonable alternative to Pelican cases or those aluminum boxes. You give great detail too. Thanks.
These storage box systems are - most obviously - adaptable to a considerable number of uses besides holding tools, etc. To a degree I would think they could be used in place of regular luggage - their modular nature would allow easier handling & transport. People could decorate them with different designs so they don't all look alike. In a more bizarre thought... perhaps homeless people could use them to haul their posetions (I don't know where they'd get the money to buy them... Details.. details!) it ok
Thanks for the review! I just ordered mine and I’ll be picking them up today. Home Depot has a sale where if you buy the small medium and large you get a small one free. Thanks again!
I really never thought of using my rigid storage boxes as a chuck box or organizational method for camping gear but thank you for the idea. It’s convenient, organized, doesn’t have a huge foot print in the car and is maneuverable.
In Australia, I have the same identical boxes but are branded AEG Quickstack. I didn't get the cart box - as the wheels took up too much space. I instead got 2 x large box, 1 x crate box. Despite the different name, they look so alike, that I'm sure they were made from the same factory.
You're welcome! Glad to share some options. Another one might be plastic drawers. I built a platform bed for my car and have been using the drawers. You can see what they look like here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-66kd4AjCRFc.htmlm41s
after watching 20 odd videos about these boxes your the only one who's answered my question! and in 3 minutes ! yes!! the dividers are removable ! thank you
Great video & great idea for Camp storage. Just curious, why not put a link to Home Depot directly? You can buy all 4 pieces for $150.00 from Home Depot... Amazon wants $410.00 with shipping for just 3 boxes & does not include the Basket unit. I mean no disrespect. Your video for organizing with these boxes is awesome!
Look at how old this video is. Prices change all the time and Home Depot doesn't offer affiliate links. As a consumer, you're free to shop where you'd like.
@@RachelinRealLife I should have looked a little closer at the description where it says all your links are affiliate links. The links where you're getting paid to promote this product... How dare I (As a consumer) ask a legitimate question in a RU-vid comment section... Sorry, that's my bad.
@@RachelinRealLife I was nothing but respectful & even complimented your video. I'm sorry you got triggered so easily from a YT comment. I guess this answers my question whether I subscribe to your channel (Which was the intent of my first comment) or not. Have a better day.
While I love the idea, and it would work beautifully for me, I don’t think it would work well unless I did everything g (all camp set up, cooking, cleaning, and camp tear down). Others who would camp with me would never put stuff back where it belonged and the next time out nothing would be in the right place. But this is a brilliant idea!
I have been searching and searching for a good chuck box option, as the $250-$350 chuck boxes you can purchase are limited in their functionality, and way too pricey given each option seems to lack some essential features (they're super heavy, not water or dust proof, too small, etc) This is wonderful, thanks for taking the time to make the video to share.
Im a Welder and have bin using the RIDGID Tool Boxes for the last year. Love them. I have the wheel box and 3 top boxes and the bar will look them all together. I have all my basic welding, mesuring and basic mecanical toos with a bunch of other stuff as well and it carys it all verry well.
Rachel, I have that exact set of boxes that I used in another life(self-contracting). thank you for showing me a way to repurpose my equipment now that I am retiring. You go girl!!
After my last 5 day camp out I realized I needed a different org on my cooking items. Love the Kitchen Box ideas and will shop for them. I like best how they can separate and then stack all together when needed. I used regular bins but some kept rain out but some ended up oversized for the cooking items. I drive a Prius and like to pack boxes as the space fits. Thank you for the idea!
I went to on my first camping tent. Oh my word was I exhausted from going back n forth to my car to the tent to the picnic table looking for stuff. I need this thing all in one location and not 4 different bin . These bins u showed ok vid, how much does these all cost?
Hi, Elma, these are definitely handy when it comes to packing gear in and out. Pricing has most likely changed since I bought mine, but they can be purchased through Home Depot, or you can check the links in the description. Thanks for watching!
I use these boxes as well. I discovered traveling in the Sierra, altitude changes will make them nearly impossible to open, so I drilled a small 3/16 hole in the bottom to prevent pressure or vacuum from building in them.
I use a similar idea my 3 are connected and slide to open bottom drawers. The top I store canned and prepackaged foods, the middle is spices, coffee, tea, spoons, forks, knifes, and condiments, the bottom is all pots, pans, dishes, and other cooking utensils.
can't get enough of this brilliant idea. We have a property where electric & water don't feed so we set it up somewhat like a camp situation, all things are in bins which stack and that works ok. But what happens when we go on trips is this panic attack of "packing". We love packing as much as Po (kungfu panda) loves stairs. It's our nemesis! Your kitchen system might just b the answer. Subscribed!
Beats the heck out of the one compartment Costco boxes I've been using for the last 30 years! The Yeti Loadout is the only gear box I've seen with a tray for organization, but they only come in one size, and the Yeti price tag is a bit steep. Great idea to use tool boxes!
We have same boxes in UK under different brand, already have medium box for recovery gear but may now get the small one as I didn't know dividers could be removed
watching u trying to open a complex chuck box for 2+ minutes is brutal. remeber the old west/plywood version only has one latch and folds out to a table. it takes about a few seconds for a real chuck box to be ready to cook from a packed state.
I was kind of leaning toward buying the DeWalt rolling toolbox but your review of the Rigid one convinced me otherwise. Thank you so much for posting this video..Subbed
Thanks to you, I have purchased he whole set and have condensed most of my gear and packed them similar to yours . Planning on using it for the first time this fall . Hope your well and safe .
I just ordered this set to use as a grooming tote for our horses. I got the basket too so that I can keep it on top and put stuff in there for their bath so that the wet doesn't mildew in a closed box. Was glad to see that sitting on top of your review so I could see how it would look. Thank you!
Good idea for camping. The wheels are a little small for use on dirt but they roll with a little effort. A few people asked about price. The three lidded boxes go for about 100 and the crate about 20. there is a new smaller box with a clear lid retails for 30 dollars. Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching, Dibroc. I've rolled these down some trails, no problem. The wheels are durable: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pg-Z0rc1Q_E.html Since prices can fluctuate, I left it up to the links in the description.
I almost bought these today but was grossed out by the strong chemical smell coming out of the large box with the wheels. The store had 3 and they all reaked. I was planning on keeping my cooking gear and food in these, the smell really turned me off. Anyone else notice that issue? Does it go away with a wash and being aired out? I sure hope so. Is such a great system.
This set looks really sturdy and even better to serve as a chuck box than the Stanley Fatmax. I had ordered one and it came all busted up when delivered.
I also looked at the Stanley, but it felt very flimsy! These RIDGID boxes were nearby and they are definitely more durable. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I like that the boxes are separated, which makes it more convenient to load/unload in my car. Thanks for commenting!
Hi, byingly. It is the Camillus CAMTRAX 3-in-1 Hatchet: amzn.to/2GPBzBS. You're also welcome to checkout my Amazon storefront: www.amazon.com/shop/rachelinreallife
The seal does not make it waterproof, but resistant. I have a roof rack and have brought these camping many times. When it has been wet, I've had no problems with the contents getting wet.
I wonder how the medium and small would be in the back of the Jeep together always. Think they would slide around to much or heavy enough to stay still?
Maybe you could loop a cable through with a lock? I've recently come across the Milwaukee Packout storage system that looks pretty cool. Might be another option to check out, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gYm4W9HG2EE.html
I'm thinking of adding a hasp to the front of the boxes that can accommodate a hefty padlock. I'll have to drill holes trough the box to attach the hasp, but I can seal it with some silicone. The big padlock needs to be big enough to accommodate a cable that I can attach to something immobile if need be. Two small padlocks through the existing latches should additionally deter any would-be thieves. I like the system so much, I bought a second, middle-sized box. :-D
Watched your video, read up on a Facebook page and ordered the set for my camper. Was surprised at the very very strong smell when opened. How long does that take to dissipate? My wife smelled it and said, well this is not safe for food storage.
Some have commented about a strong smell, but I never thought much of it. I will say I wouldn't put bread or baked goods in it, that could absorb the off-gas, but for canned food, and seasonings in good containers, which is what I have in mine, I think they're fine.
@@upperhandoutdoors860 I've had a couple sets of these for a couple of months and they still have a strong smell. I'm hoping g it goes away eventually as I really like them otherwise.
I actually purchased more to use as my car emergency kit, after getting stranded in Capitol Reef. I'll do a video on it, along with testing out the items I selected.
@@RachelinRealLife do you have any idea how much weight it can support standing on top of them? i plan to use it as stool if needed. they appear strong but not sure if it can handle 180lb. thanks.
I'll be pulling them out of storage for my move next week and can let you know for sure then. If you need to know sooner, they're very sturdy and I'm confident they'd hold you, plus some.
Han, I've moved and stood on each box. As suspected, they are plenty strong. I'm not a small female (6' tall) so you'll be fine! Home Depot sells them so you can always try it in the store.
Rachel in Real Life . Thanks for the information. I did try the small and large ones at HD. The mid size at three locations were all sold out. Although they seemed strong i am always concerned when it is not certified by the company warranty. Thanks again
I had to come back and watch this again. One of the photography facebook groups I belong to recommended this as a solution for transporting photo gear. I've just about outgrown my backpack and it no longer will serve as a bulk transport method. I'm just about sold on this as a solution. Thanks Rachel!
That's awesome! There are a lot of uses for these boxes. Feel free to share this video with your group. I have an Ape Case, backpack, for my camera gear and I love it. It's extremely comfortable to wear, and spacious. They have a larger one with wheels you could check out that might be an option as well: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003BEDRJI/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1522602295&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=camera+backpack+with+wheels&dpPl=1&dpID=41iglhs37KL&ref=plSrch
