With the "twist" marketing. I used to sell Museatex (A now defunct Canadian Hi-Fi company) cables, interconnects and speaker wire. What they used was twisted wire that was developed by AT&T Bell Labs. I'm not sure who the vendor was. Whether it was AT&T or someone else actually manufactured it. Crux of the story is Museatex didn't hesitate to tout AT&T, your phone company in the day, as the researcher and developer. It wasn't sexy, it wasn't mythical fairy dust. They're reasoning was that AT&T Bell Labs do more scientific research into transmitting sound through wire than anyone else, and had been doing it for a very long time. The quote from them was, "Your mom can call you from anywhere in the world and you can recognize her voice immediately, that's fidelity." The wire wasn't cheap, but it wasn't crazy expensive. If you bought them terminated then they were expensive. IIRC it was about $2/ft raw and was $300 for a terminated 30ft pair of spkr cables. For reference regular Monster Cable was $1/ft. But it was back in the late 80s and my memory could be off.

Hi Mikey. Thanks for showing us some of the 'caveat emptor' products that are out there trying to lure audiophiles into their net. In my fairly highly resolved system power upgrades have provided minimal bang for buck differences to the SQ so I agree that upgrading components will bring more results. I will double down on that opinion if a person is just getting into upgrading their system. Put your money into better components first. Having said that, and after listening to your mini rant, I wondered what you do actually recommend for power cords? Can you turn this rant into a positive ending by suggesting what to look for in a power cord to meet a minimum expectation? Should a person look at 10 gauge, 8 or even 6? What about all the plug connectors? Those alone can break the bank! Is Furutech the go to plug? What type of wire architecture? What type of spacing inside the cable? How can we all meet a minimum purchase price and meet a good standard for power cord? Perhps another video detailing your suggestions? Love your enthusiasm and your focus on the main goal - the music. Cheers!

Would it be fair for your competitor to post a video where they talk about the silliness of using parallel sheets of silver foil cables for AC and at the end say "I'm not even going to listen to it because I've been making cables for 20 years"? You'd probably wish that they would at least talk about their experience and not just assume based on appearance. I don't know Mapleshade but I can't imagine they would be in business as long as they have been if they didn't provide a product that made a difference to people where their end users fueled a healthy following. Even their used cables don't stay up long in used gear forums. I also believe that not every component creates the same change and/or impression on every system equally. This is not a hobby of absolutes. I genuinely wanted to see/hear your actual impression given your experience.
@OCDHIFiGuy
@OCDHIFiGuy Год назад
Sure, they could do whatever they want. I don't care. Truth is I've listened to it and it was horrible. But I'd rather not say that in a video, I'd rather just blow it off and use it to show what silly things manufacturers expect you to do sometimes. Ie; Rig it with string taped to the wall and the rack for a minimum 6 inch space. Ridiculous. And as far as quality, I'll bet M&Ms outsell Godiva by 10X. Being in business is no indication of quality.

@@OCDHIFiGuy While all you say may be true, my comment was only in regards to how you chose to share your knowledge which in this case got lost. I've never used a Mapleshade product, but your video didn't change my opinion about it, but left me wondering why you would post such a video. While you chose not to "say it in the video", for all intensive purposes, you might as well have and taken it all the way, because at the end of the day you said that it was worthless. This is a hobby, no lives will be saved by picking the right component. I for one appreciate anyone who will share their authentic subjective or objective reasoning and preference or ambivalence towards a product.

Ya no why you run hot neutral and ground in one conduit and not separate. When current flows thru a wire it creates a magnetic field, by having hot and neutral run next to each other in the same conduit what happens, they cancel each other out! Flows out on hot back on neutral, then reverses, 60 times a second. When separated they don't cancel, and more heat is created. That thing not only violates many principals of electrical physics but many code violations. When that thing kills somebody the company should get sued for lots, if there not in China. That's one power cord that will affect sound, cause when it burns up you get a totally quiet background. That's good so you can hear the fire trucks coming.

But it is possible to spend very low money and have real improvements with power cables. One good example is the Harmonic Tech AC11 that you may find used for under 200 bucks. It will for sure improve over the stock pieces of wire that come with any equipment. Another very nice option is (original) Furutech´s Alpha that you can buy in bulk/meter/feet. Exotic and expensive power cords like this and others with so called scientific reasoning and listening tests are what is going to be the demise of our audio hobby eventually as Mikey has been trying to point out to all of us. The one point that one always needs to counter with power cords like this is what about the Romex from Lowes, Home Depot, and electrical supply stores that is between the outlet and the circuit breaker entrance panel and then out to the electric company distribution system and back to the generator plant !!!! If we taught things like this in electrical engineering courses, then we would be laughed out of our universities. Remember, this is only one of many such scams that are infesting our great hobby and leading to its demise. Just my 2 cents.....Thanks Mikey for all you do to point out this crappola to unsuspecting suckers. What is needed is more care on the design of super good regulated power supplies in the equipment which does really make a difference when measured and in proper blind listening tests. Prof. Jim

I have always thought expensive power codes are a joke. So you have this super expensive cord that is 6 feet long but you have many times more feet of builder grade cable in your walls connected to the cheapest outlet they can get. Until you replace all that garbage I don't see how an expensive power cable is going to do anything but lighten your wallet.
@OCDHIFiGuy
@OCDHIFiGuy Год назад
Because the power cable can act as an AC line filter for the last 5 feet before your component.

It would be interesting if it could be tested and proven to actually make a difference in power. If there are actual tests that were done I am happy to be proven wrong.

Actually, you guys have got all this all wrong. The men who created that cable and many others, actually formally worked for our government creating the F 16 They were developers of electromagnetic field, isolation. Your interpretation of the structure of each of the materials is completely off: the thin polymer is actually there, to reduce skin affect. the wires are separated to reduce electromagnetic fields, and the thin plugs are, there often made of wood, to reduce the effect of plastics on electromagnetic magnetic field. I bought these cables more than 20 years ago. I was too cynical. Thin wire? We are All taught thick wire is better. When I put these cables into my system, wholly mackerel, greater clarity, greater base transparency, better great base slam. I was shocked. The ironic cables. The opposite of what we were taught should work. these little cables will blow away anything that Audio quest makes up to 1,500 dollars easily. so again you’re misinterpreting by the cosmetics what is behind the development of these unusual looking cables. take a listen to them. Burn them in 400 hours take another listen. these guys at Maple Shade and Ron Bauman are actually way ahead of what we usually know as standard or proper design. Before you get snarky take a listen.

@user-zq8uv8gw3w Год назад
Well, I was almost with you until you recommended a 400 hour burn in time. How do you justify an arbitrary number. Did something change from 399 to 400, and will I notice that in my own living room?
@OCDHIFiGuy
@OCDHIFiGuy Год назад
First question. Are they still in your system ? Next, how did you spread them apart, did you use string and tape ? Next, explain how cellophane reduces skin effect ? Or do you mean the enamel on the magnet wire that's used to wrap transformers ? If your sound system gets "thrown off" by the effect of plastic on the EM Field, then you've got issues.. the truth is I DID try this cable and the sonic was absolutely horrible. But I'd rather not showcase that in this video. My current production F35 power cords bury this F16 into irrelevance. But kudos to the guys that created this stuff for thier tenacity.

Oh You can’t be so literal. That’s just a ballpark just just means that once you’ve used it for a few weeks depending on usage most year at 400 hours is completely burned in. That’s the ballpark.
@matthewaboulafia3026

So to separate the cables, as you noticed, the cable wire is kind of stiff. you literally just pull them apart so they’re separated around 3 feet . The wire will stay in position because of its stiffness. I’m not sure what they use on the wire itself, how neutral that is regarding Skin affect, but I know all of their products and as you go up the ladder, they move away from the cellophane and they use a mesh wire. So yes, the wires because of their stiffness will hold their shape. That’s how they stay apart. If you play with them, you’ll see what I mean. It’s sort of a bow effect going from each end wider in the middle. And you also need to pull the outriggers the little green wires apart like the wire itself. The outriggers are there to help with electromagnetic field. If you do a little research on electricity, electricity doesn’t just travel through the wire. whenever electricity is pushed through wire, it naturally creates a field around the wire, which is a part of the movement of the current. If you completely damp that field, it will affect the efficiency of the current. This was discovered once, when they were putting long lines of wire under the ocean, and found that there was a disruption and electrical efficiency. They weren’t aware of the electromagnetic field yet. So when you place wore anywhere on the floor and it is plastic the floor or carpet it act as a disruptor to the electromagnetic field. And yes, the first time I started looking at these cables, and some of the other products I was quite cynical. But I tested them and was quite surprised at the quality of the sonic change Considering the price point. For instance, there I believe it’s $180, HDMI cable is better than Audioquest diamond HDMI cable. Which I believe is around three grand. I bought it and compare them and was shocked. Audio quest rip off. Well if you compare it to the Mapleshade stuff. If you like, I could send you photograph / video of my system. I’m using Mageas and the same engineers, most sophisticated cabling. Best Matthew. A Ps I have been an audiophile for 55 years.

I did not catch how long that cable is? 5'? 6'? If they want 2' between the wires, a rectangle with the plugs in the middle, going 1' in each 90° direction, would give 1' between plug ends with a 5' cord! 2' with a 6' cord! The device would have to be in almost a straight line 1' to 2' from the wall outlet.
