Now I'm curious about the history of that caveman ride. They said it was "discovered" in 1961, which is around the time the Flintstones first aired. I couldn't help but wonder if it was built because of the popularity of the Flintstones. Just a thought.
This has to be one of my favorite episodes ever! I love dark rides, especially haunted ones! I do not generally like going to the Bay Area, but Santa Cruz boardwalk may make it worthwhile. Can’t wait to see where you go next! Hoping for the Winchester Mystery House! If you get down to SoCal, maybe a trip to Knott’s Berry Farm (not far from Disneyland) and then a 2 hour trek from there to Calico Ghost Town for the combined history and some really fun stuff! Have fun!
If you get a chance ...go to the Hornet in Alameda Ca...was a carrier ship in WW2... it also picked up the Apollo astronauts...shot down MANY Japanese fighter pilots ...plus it's haunted AF. So much history on that ship.
It was good to see the boardwalk again. I grew up in the bay area and visited Santa Cruz every summer since I was a kid. San Jose has Kelly Park. At Kelly Park they have Happy Hollow (local amusement park), The Baby Zoo and Japanese Friendship Garden (koi ponds). In Santa Clara they have Great America. If you're heading south hwy 1 might be a nice trip. Monterey, Carmel, Morro Bay and Pismo Beach.
Your powers of observation and fabulous narration make your videos so interesting and entertaining to watch!!!!! Those other two haunted house dark rides were excellent too!!!! I can't believe it you found 3 dark rides of such exceptional quality in one place!!!! Jen is an excellent sidekick for you!!! She has a great ironic sense of humour and is so positive and supporting,,!!!!Santa Cruz Pier Rocks!!!!So does this video!!!! ,Attaboy, Carpetbagger and Jen!!!!
Hey Carpetbagger..! Great video of the Santa Cruz boardwalk and dark rides. You should check out Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park. Hope your trip is going well. Thank you..!
Oh I LOVE the Cave Train!! One of my absolute favorites! The haunted castle was closed when we were there a year ago, looks like they have updated it. We'll be going back soon. Thanks so much for the video!!
HEY JACOB WHAT'S Up, Well see your at the Santa Cruz boardwalk In good Old CA. that Lion sure wanted to eat All your paper and your Hand... Yeah pretty Cool Dang Dark Ride Looked Like you had Some fun on them All Well ok will see you on the next video till then Take care stay safe and keep on moving forward
I'm a Bay Area girl, born and raised. The boardwalk has always been the go-to summer spot. The cave train is the best, a classic. Hopefully, you made it over to the wharf, great selection of shops and restaurants. Thanks for a great video to share a piece of our culture with everyone.
The caveman ride was the best one and probably the best dark ride I've seen, it's always loud noises, blinding lights, and cheesy props that one looked fun to ride
Going on some dark rides sure would do my soul some good right now, this is definitely the next best thing. Thanks for taking us along. I’m inspired to close the curtains, crank up the ac, light a candle, and watch a spooky movie today. 😊
Here is a TIP when going to Santa Cruze Beach Boardwalk. Buy your Unlimited Ride tickets ONLINE. Most of the time they will be cheaper than buying them at the park. Fun Fact. The park has tried to install a Parking Garage and new rides, but keeps getting shutdown by the Residents because they don't want the view to be blocked even though it will bring in more tourist to the area to spend more money in the local economy.
The boardwalk has been in my backyard my whole life.Love.Love love.this place. Nothing like fried artichokes, ocean breezes, and the rides. Besides fresh paint the Cave train hasn’t really changed in 50 years and that’s whats amazing about this very special ride. The smell in there hasn’t changed in 50 years either. Thanks for showing this hidden gem here in the Bay Area.
The boardwalk was always the best, and I'm really glad to see that not only has it been well cared for, but that the dark rides are still there as well as being very well updated. I still remember being too small to ride the dipper, as well as the first time I was finally able to. The start where the cars drop into the dark was scary at first! Thanks for taking me back there, Jacob and I'm really glad that they've done so much to keep the place in great shape.
In classical architecture, a colonnade is a long sequence of columns joined by their entablature, often free-standing, or part of a building.[1] Paired or multiple pairs of columns are normally employed in a colonnade which can be straight or curved.
Hello Jacob how are you and Jenn? Hope you are both okay after what happened with your car. I loved the dark rides! 👻 Laffing Sal kind of freaks me out 😅 Thanks Jacob and best wishes ☀️
The first 2 dark rides weren't that scary and seemed like fun. The caveman ride reminds me of Bedrock and the Flintstones. Maybe their related some how.
That looks awesome, it has been a long time since I have been at Santa Cruz, I gotta make a trip out there. A colonade is an arcade made of columns and I think Estella did tell you your future, you future was that you were .50 cents poorer, LOL.
wow...Santa Cruz sure looks like a real fun place to check out, with it's classic dark rides, fab foods, and lots of fun times just waiting to be had! can't wait to see where you'll be going next Jacob, have a happy summer!
As a kid we camped at newbrighton Beach and spent a few days at the boardwalk every year for about 12 years with a huge group of friends and parents. Each year was 3 weeks
Hey Jacob do you know the train that you saw yesterday as you arrived at the Santa Cruz boardwalk. Well we sent it to you because we were up at one camps when the departed for the boardwalk. Hope you had a chance to ride the train through the redwoods. Looking forward to your next adventure
Last time we were in California, we drove the PCH from LA to San Francisco. We stopped in Santa Cruz, kinda unexpectedly. Ended up at the Boardwalk, it was awesome! It’s exactly what a Boardwalk should be.
I had a hunch that he was going to be at the Boardwalk and almost went but changed my mind last minute. Now I'm kicking myself, I really want to meet Jacob. =(
When the cave train first opened there was a set of stairs next to the caveman high on the chair. He would bark out come on down to the cave train. Where you see the cartoon looking cave monster. there was a 25 foot animatronic Brontosaurus that lifted out of the pond on top ever fifteen minuets.. Also please note that famous roller coaster (The Big Dipper) is 100 years old and has been seen in movies as well!
Hello, May I offer some suggestions? Before the interstate highways of the 1950s and the U.S. highways of the 1930s, there was the Auto-Trail Memorial Highway System. As you mentioned, with the success of the Lincoln Highway, more auto trails were created and planned. One was the Dixie Highway, which you explored, but there are others. Wikipedia has the complete list under the term "Auto Trails." Canada decided to join forces with the United States in connecting auto trails in the two countries. One north-south auto-trail started in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and ended in Tampico, Mexico. Another is called the National Park-to-Park Highway. The original layout for the highway was Big Bend, TX (Mexican Border) Guadalupe Mountains, TX Petrified Forrest, AZ Grand Canyon, AZ Bryce Canyon, UT Zion, UT Death Valley, CA Sequoia, CA Kings Canyon, CA (Formerly General Grant) Yosemite, CA Lassen, CA Crater Lake, OR Mt. Ranier, WA Glacier National Park, MT (Canadian Border) Yellowstone, WY Rocky Mountain, CO Sand Dunes, CO Est. 2004 (NOT Part of the original System. It is in a direct line Between Rocky and Carlsbad) Carlsbad, NM Big Bend, TX (Mexican Border)
I totally agree with you about the Caveman Adventure dark ride, it was so good I had to watch it 3 times in a row it was so cool!!!!Great one, Carpetbagger!!!Attaboy!!!!
Fab Video....Im from the U.K and love coasters (but the old-style woodies not the new steel ones) BUT I also LOVE my old-style classic rides too! NOT many amusement parks / seaside places in the uk have them anymore BUT Blackpool Pleasure beach does for the moment (sadly a before the covid pandemic) they got rid of the ONLY wooden wild mouse left in the U.K ...the park has nowhere to expand and OBV has to keep up with demand for bigger and better rides ...they lost the log flume they had (another historic ride from the 50s) to replace the are with another steel coaster sadly ....anyhow IF you ever get over to the U.K i recommend visiting Blackpool ...I LOVED the cave ride in the vid (they have a boat ride called river caves at Blackpool but its more like a boat trip around the world) AS for the Ghost Blaster you can be forgiven for getting that score as you were filming AND trying to blast ghosts at the same time! 😉NOW the Carousel ...we have them in the U.K OBV BUT (i may be wrong) dont think i have seen one with the grab the brass ring (prob down to health and safety here in the U.K as they don't want suing if someone falls off while trying to grab the ring!) Also on a realy coincidental point Blackpool Pleasure Beach has their equvilant of Laughing Sally but in a clown form and its been there as long as i can remember and im 52 this year!...ALSO, the Colonade is a sort of European thing dating back to anicent times basicaly a Promenade but is covered above with a structure and columns along the promenade/boardwalk hence the name colonnade! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonnade
If you like Dark Rides, I have a suggestion for you. It's a bit extreme and might not be the easiest thing to film though. In Auburn, AL there's a place called Sleepy Hollow Haunted Farm. Here's their promo from 2017 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5ztYd3BfV4k.html They have a typical haunted house deal in October, which is pretty tame. But then they have something called the RIP Ride. This thing is a blast. I doubt you've seen the like. There's this big corrections bus (in the video). The evil clown is the bus driver. He takes off into the woods in the dark, swerving all over the place and bouncing people out of their seats. And he's blasting AC/DC music. It's the most fun I've had in quite some time. It would be hard to keep the camera steady, and you may have to bleep out the music for copyright reasons. Otherwise, it would be worth filming.
The cave train adventure looks like it was made by the same people that made "spelunker" at six flags over Texas. I don't know which one came first but it looks heavily inspired.
The cave ppl on the sky lift were so ugly and 90s cringe, and then what do you know, and entire ride full of them……..otherwise cool train ride and such, just can’t get into the cave ppl themselves
Jacob, so glad you finally were able to ride the dark rides at the boardwalk. The Cave Train is an original, classic ride, even Walt Disney came to check it out. The train you saw going down the middle of the street is the Big Trees Railroad, you can ride it all the way up to the Roaring Camp Railroad, up in the hills. Both are definitely cool, Roaring Camp is a narrow gauge, steam train from the old logging days. You should definitely make time to ride them both, they are fascinating parts of living history.
damn...when I was there last year, pretty much everything was shut down and we couldn't go on these...oh well, gotta go visit my sibling again, I guess.
You should go on a dark rye with #LaurenZSide because she would be able to film her side of going on the dark ride for her channel and you can film your part going on your channel because it can be fun. I can be spooky and can be crazy because see films. Scary videos sometimes and she can say “oh my god that is so creepy “
