@@ducatinyc First think that fell me in love with Monsters are easy maintenance like changing air filter, plastic tank - no rust forever, battery, fuses... No plastic parts like newer models... or battery under the rear suppression like 821. Sorry for newer models, but my old Monster 620/2004 has clutch-less shifting up and down and enough power to beat Kawasaki Z1000 and BMW K1300R on curve roads and mountain passes :D My dream bike is still S4R, but don't have a money for him :)
Well to be fair this one has as stock exhaust and it sounds NASTY with proper pipes. As far as electronics - agreed. Original also agreed - not many 620's out there.
@@ducatinyc Year is 2015, 9000km on the clock. The only issue i've had was a flat back tire last Sunday.....😃. Bike is built under "Audi supervision ".....
I am honored to have DucatiNYC vlog my bike into the vlogasphere!!! Glad you enjoyed your brap around town. The bike will be missed, but not as much as knowing I was riding the same streets as you on a daily basis. Hope to see you on the other side of the pond soon so we can go for a ride around the boot!
THANK YOU for giving me the opportunity to ride your beast. I still regret not buying it and I do hope to link up with you in Italy one of these days for a delicious tour.
the same day I bought my s1000r my best buddy got his 821, I remember riding back from the dealers, looking at his monster thinking how good it looked compared to my german soulless chunk of metal...unfortunately 110 hp just don't do it for me...but man that thing is gorgeous...
Hi, I own a 2019 821 and had some stalling issues but here are some tips: Do not downshift from second gear to first until you come to a stop, but most important thing: when starting the bike wait until the engine warms up a bit. Love my 821
I have a 2020 821 & love it. Engine heat is a bit of a bitch if it is hot outside - It can get hot enough to burn your leg a little. You just gotta keep moving on this bike. Engine stalling is a weird issue - if the engine not fully warmed up - when you rev high & then rapidly engine break, it can stall. Not sure if it's "the character" or an engineering problem.
Thats a bit weird and was unsettling since if it happened mid turn it could be an issue. A real shame. I hope its something that can be fixed. And heat, I dont mind. Congrats on the 2020 821! Lucky Duc!
A very good bike indeed, they're awesome! Honestly i feel like you would grow tired of not being able to stretch it's legs properly in the city, but you just have to experience it for yourself obviously. A 696 would be a great modern monster for the city, but you just do you and enjoy the big boy! Either way, all Ducati monsters are awesome bikes anyways, so you can't really go wrong. I love watching your videos and i can't wait to see what you end up buying! Ride safe out there! :)
Can't really go wrong - like you said. I like the 696 and 796 but I want to go a bit more modern than that - plus i just LOVE the color dash, silly, i know. Decisions decisions :)
Long time no see!! Glad you are doing fine and looking for a new Monster! One of the reason the engine may be shutting down is because it's working on a very lean fuel/air mixture to rudece pollution. I know that because before purchasing a Monster I was looking at some Ducati Scramblers, some users where reporting this issue. Those 2 bikes share the same engine if I remember correctly. One thing for sure, the 620 sounds way better. I finally got to enjoy my Monster after having it delivered a couple days before quarantine, I fookin love it!
Well to be fair the 821 has a stock pipe while mine is a wide open Mivv. And the stalling issue, who knows. Hard to tell exactly. And like William said - 797 and Scramblers have the same engine - 821 is another beast.
so you just pulled over in cat's street. Nice. Btw, get this beauty. I did your exact same route: had the 620 for many many years, recently switched to the 821 and loving every bit of it! Mine was also a dark one, and i've gotta admit, i thought ducati red was a little bit too "standard" for my tastes, but in reality, it's not standard... its' effin classic!
i know nothing about bikes but this thing is sexy looking. your 620 sounds better though, at least on video. i assume this thing has the stock exhaust?
My monster 1200s did that twice when I first rode it. The clutch plates bunching up. It sorts it self out. Nothing to worry about. I myself never have had a problem with heat either. Not sure why it’s such a “hot topic” ( pun intended) when talking about Ducati’s. my R1 got way hotter than my 1200s
Yea i've never been bothered by the Ducati heat, and i have an old ass air cooled bike. And yea, i should have picked up this 821 - it was steal of a deal.
Stalling like that raises a big red flag to me on this specific bike, but I used to have a Triumph Street Triple R that had similar specs - it was a fun little ripper. If and when you go, another issue you have to deal with is the possibility of theft since you are a city dweller. That's a very attractive bike. But I'll tell you, you fit on that bike.
Yea, it did raise a big huge flag, one of the reasons I decided to pass on this one. Theft, yes. Especially once I make it all sexy with a Motodemic and Mivv's and such. I would be infinitely more concerned with my bikes safety if I get the 821.
Yea as I was watching back the footage I can NOT believe I didnt take the opportunity to do my little photoshoot with it as a background. I promise to go back and explore that thing and get some damn answers!
DO IT! I was debating over this and the XSR900 for a few months. Ended up with the XSR900 OTD $9500 brand new. I say the same thing (holy shit) on my bike when I’m in sport mode. The bike just pulls and feels like a rocket. The B mode is perfect for high traffic areas too. I just got back into riding after 5 years off & coming from a CBR250 and this torque is funnnnn
This would be the logical next bike for you! But your 620 is also cool - maybe you'll find a newer 620 stealth with low mileage? For urban riding the 620 is probably better (and more reliable) the 821 had her issues with e-throttle and so on.. and for the sake of keeping your licence: de-power!
I'm happy you addressed the seat height/riding position of this new Monster compared to your old M620. Considering you've toured thousands of miles on your bike, have you considered ways to increase comfort-- like an aftermarket seat and changing bars and/or adjustable footpegs?
i have the 19' Stealth 821 and couldn't be happier, coming off sport bikes, love the Monster! the DQS is legit!! comes with stealth model up down, also adj front forks. love the Matte finish too! for me this might be one of the most perfect bikes power wise for street/commutes, just fun to ride! the 1200 lol, would be fun to test and the Diavel, but for reg riding around to me 821 is it. cheers ride safe Dave from Canada.
1200 was too much when I rode it - 821 is the sweet spot. DQS and all the modes have me sold. I"ll def have one one day soon. And Diavel - especially in that weird new green color they got - is delicious. What a bike. But not for daily commutes and splits in NYC
I notice you've been riding naked bikes for years...and you are not dissapointed about wind buffeting , wind coming throug zippers ... etc. Please make a video with some thoughts on that topic ;)
@@ducatinyc And I got the title > Naked int the wind :) I use to ride an old cbr and one time I took off the fairing , What a difference, in a windy country like mine it was good in the city but I couldn't stand it on highway , at least for my style of riding ... I remember cruising with some harleys at 70mph , that was the limit. Anyway I LOVE your bike and barebone machines , I gues the solution is on the proper gear to wear. Anyhow , that video would be aweome! :) best vibes from Uruguay.
Idk if you know where college point is in ny, but there's this pizzeria i pass by and everytime I see a new bike park on the side of it lol. I've seen a diavel, monster (idk which one), and an R6 park beside that pizzeria. Edit: I would get a ducati in the future, but the maintenance cost on ducatis are just painful on the pocket D:
I do know where College Point is but do not go there often . I should check it out if you can remember the name of the spot. And I hear ya about the costs - they are without a doubt more than your average japanese bike.
@@ducatinyc It's not always guaranteed that the bike is there especially now that it's winter.. but I saw it a lot during summer... The pizzeria is called Martiniello's IV ... a pretty small place on the corner of a block. It's funny that I hear a lot of bikes around the area especially during the summer, but never met any of them lmao.
I would say it's time for an upgrade. Put some Termi's under it so you will enjoy and focus on the ducati sound, then you won't need to give it the beans like you did on the test ride haha
If folks complain about heat coming off a bike wait until they ride one with under tail exhaust. If you want a pretty bike something has to be sacrificed.
It's actually in miles per hour. On the test ride, he gives it some beans around 11:54 and passes that van like a dill pickle. He tops out at 89 mph. This is not hard to do on a motorcycle like this. Ambient temperature also shows between 66°-72° Fahrenheit.
Did you ask the owner about the stalling issue? I thought about owning one of these also, but i'm concerned about the heat from the exhaust on a long ride. Wonder if it would get too hot
Yea it was stolen once but completely repaired. I did ask the owner and its actually a reoccuring issue as far as it seems on the internet. It happens to some but not others, its not a huge deal but seems weird. I'd imagine the heat is not a problem, my bike is air cooled as of now.
@@ducatinyc And I have "that" yellow one now.. With a DQS and tailtidy installed ... here in NJ next door .. ;-) I upgraded from a 797 ... And I can say .. Love the power still after 7200 miles on it this year since March .. yes it gets a bit hot in traffic on the hottest days of summer.. but as soon as you get rolling again it's good... Once you go Quickshifter you don't go back .. Sometimes in 7200 miles.. maybe 5 or 6 times I have gotten the same stall into 1:st gear.. I think it is when I rev match and release the clutch with a certain timing that it happens.. But most I either coast to a stop with the clutch in, or I quickshift at the end to 1:st .. so I don't get to experiment as to why it happens.. And when I TRY to make it happen .. it wont ..
honestly as much as I would like to see you drive a new bike (another one), I have to say i'm not a fan of this one, probably the sound and all the electronical stuff
Don't just think about buying the thing just buy it you know you wont to hay give it 2 weeks and you will won't even think of the power of the bike it will be a every day thing
@@ducatinyc Can confirm. Had a 1200. Sold it and downgraded to an 1100. Do I miss that enormous amount of pant-shitting power? Yeah, sorta. But I can use all the power available to me on the 1100 every day. And the 821 has more power than the 1100. It's probably absolutely perfect.
Thank you for your negative vibes and wishing me harm. I’ve crashed before and will again. I actually wish u safe riding, eventhough u dont deserve it for being a jerkoff
@@ducatinyc 500.000 miles on my 3 Ducatis , I have tons of riding experience and just saying the way you ride , at least on camera looks like a good way to get dinged up . oh and ease up on the jerkoff comments, if you ever. Could ride with me you would see that is not the case !
@@artmchugh5644 I'm sure you're not a jerkoff but the comment came off like you're wishing harm. You could have easily worded it in a way that would motivate as opposed to offend.
While you're scared for cops I'm scared for your life. Extremely reckless driving. You also gotta think what kind of example you're showing to new riders. Kinda shame, bcs I just found this channel and I'm utterly disappointed.
