Riding Flight of Passage with No Wait

We at TouringPlans get asked a lot about Flight of Passage at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It is a hard attraction to get a FastPass for and has very long waits...so how can you ride it without waiting forever?!
Brian has a plan and made a video outlining exactly how to ride Flight of Passage (and Na'vi River Journey) with almost no waiting and no messing up the rest of your day. Watch how!

Got to the park as a party of 6 at 8am for a 9am opening. They started Flight of Passage early and we were out of the ride at 9:02am. Did Navi River next with a 15 minute wait and then to Everest with a 10 minute wait. That's how you start the morning!

For the record, this video helped SO MUCH. My fam took an Uber to DAK around 7:00am (park opened at 8), we waiting in front of the park (first ones there) I’d say a crowd of around 1,000+ people showed up super early too. (Spring break) Rode flight of passage, absolutely no wait, then rode Na’vi river journey right after, no wait. Both attractions done before 8:40. Telling y’all now, FoP was spellbinding. My family literally just sat there in our seats for a good 30 seconds after the ride ended with tears in our eyes. ITS SO WORTH WAKING UP. Another plus is NO ONE is around the other E-Tickets. We rode Dinosaur, Everest, and Safari all with little to no wait. A plus: Safari was the best I’ve ever been on, in the morning is when the animals are most awake, got to see a lion roaring! My family never really considered DAK a full day park. We spent the whole day there and it was spectacular (plus we previously got FP for Everest, Dinosaur, and River Journey so we got to ride twice!) Me and my sister actually got to ride Na’vi river journey 3 times with no wait (our parents took a break over by Everest and we snagged their magic bands to use their fast passes for River Journey again) My sister and I got to watch pandora at sunset and see it transform into a breathtaking glowing experience. Also another tip, wait in line when the park closes as well! A CM told us that no FP reservations occur after the park closes so you’re essentially standing in a longer FP line. We saw Rivers of Light (amazing) then sped on over to Pandora and got in line for FoP posted at a 240min wait, only ended up waiting around an hour (so worth it) and finished our night with the same ride we began our day with. We were the first/last group to ride that day and another cool experience about waiting after close is that Pandora was nearly empty, so upon our exit we got to enjoy some great photo ops in a non-crowded Pandora! Thanks for the video, it really helped invigorate my fam into waking up at the crack of dawn on a cold Florida morning to do this!

For me personally, no ride is worth that level of stress or a 2 hour wait. But, it was very important for me to see this! XD Thank you. I can temper my expectations now. Does anyone know how long the FP line usually is?

So I followed your tips. I was feeling like incredibly accomplished because I got to the entrance by 7:30AM(Animal Kingdom now opens at 8AM). My heart sank when I saw there was a line at the entrance, and they were already letting people go through. I rushed through and got to the line, and even though the line was already looping it only took me 20 minutes to get inside of Flight of Passage. By 8:20AM I was already out and in line for the Na'vi River Journey, which had an hour wait. So it does pay to get to the park an hour to an hour and a half early, just so you are not waiting so long for Na'vi River Journey. Thank you Brian!

We went to the Animal Kingdom on Saturday 11/18. The park opens that morning at 8am and we arrived at 7:40 and got through bag check without an issue. They were allowing resort guests to enter early so we followed everyone to Flights of Passage and never stopped. We were inside by 8:10 and finished the attraction by 8:20. We then went to the Na'vi River ride and waited 15 minutes. It was great!

Yes we did this like 3 different times back in November for FOP and I say it was well worth it getting up super early for that. Every time we were on and off the ride before 9 too. Only did a fast pass 1 time in the middle of day when it was 2-3 hour wait.

My experience was on 29th August 2022. I deliberately went when crowds were lower and it was amazing. I was a non resort guest and got to the park about 40 minutes before official park opening. I was literally at the front by the rope (one layer of people in front of me). Dropped the rope and literally ran to Avatar, park was already open with Disney hotel guests but there was no crowd control and no crowds/clogging like in your video over the bridge so I could run. By the time I got to the ride it was very well organised. As I entered the entrance to the ride the posted wait time was 55 mins (would have been happy with that but this is ‘low peak’ crowds). Actually waited 23 minutes to get from where the line stopped to being in the presentation room. Amazing! Went to Navi river - posted 30 mins and actually waited 18 so I did both rides in about an hour.

We used your advice today at AK. Bus from Pop Century arrived at 7:36. Thru turnstile at 8:15. Rope dropped (actually walked in) at 8:30. Rode FoP and out at 9:10. Had 9:30 NR FP+. Left Pandora in time for 10:00 Circle of Life, 10:30 Safari, 11:30 Everest, then 15 minute Dinosaur wait. Drop the mic! Left park at 12:30 after doing everything we wanted to do. Thanks so much for your help!

One thing that helped was using the AP ticket line. It was about 1/5th shorter than the rest of the lines, and went faster. Also if you are staying on site, and can get in for EMH, morning, you are not competing with guests that have fast passes.

I assume you guys stay at the resort? I will be going next week and am wondering how to make as little time as possible for these 2 rides at pandora. We stay at a non-disney resort so getting to the park will be at my own expense. We plan to go to the park around 7AM so that's 2 hours ahead before park opens. Can I hit the flight of passage before 9 or the flight start at 9 when park opens? Based on the video, looks like you can but I am not sure.

It's good that they just start the ride early. When I was there in September, the crowd wasn't even allowed to enter the Pandora until 9:00. Getting there at 8:45, we got on the ride at 10:15. It was well worth the wait, HOWEVER, be aware that many people cannot ride because of size limits on the ride "vehicles". There's a mock-up of one in front, but getting to it requires stepping out of line, which could add a lot of time to your wait at rope drop.

My family did Flight of Passage last March in the regular line, mid-morning. The line for the ride quite literally stretched TO AFRICA. I don't remember our wait time, but it was a good chunk of the morning. Getting there early or getting a Fastpass is ideal of course, but even that line you showed after finishing Na'vi River doesn't look horrible.

Little animal kingdom trick: if rainforest cafe is open for early breakfast, they have an entrance off in the corner after bag check but before the ticket scan. If you go all the way through the restaurant and the shop, their exit into the park has ticket scanners there too. Easy way to skip the line and actually enter a little bit further into the park than the entrance.

Great video. Means a lot to hear the actual times that you got to each point. Two questions: 1. What time does the parking lot open if I don't trust the first bus from the Doubletree Suites to be early enough? 2. The one extra advantage I thought to standing in line was going through the queue rooms...which apparently get skipped if you are in the earliest arrivals. Any idea at what point they switch and start sending the line through all of the rooms?

Just re-watched this video. Similar experience this Dec (6th). However, we arrived behind plan at 8:13am and were in a longer line with more people there at the gates. I also think from observing the video that there were possibly more people the day we went this year. Gates were opened early of course, so we did best we could to pass a few people. The horde was held up for about 5 minutes on the bridge to Pandora. We walked to our place in the line, which was on the pathway to Africa. Then they let us inside the lines, and we moved again. I think it took about 15 minutes from gate open until we hit back of line and another 15 minutes to get inside to the actual loading lines for the ride. Unfortunately, I don't have exact memory other than with the final pre-show you see in the clip above, we were out of the ride completely by 9:20am. We had FP+ for Navi, so the plan was to head for Africa and Safari ride immediately. Unlike what was shown in the film, we were not allowed to use the walkway to Africa by a cast member and the FOP Line had wound all the way back to that point, so we would have had to go to end of line and then get by the Cast Member and then start passing everyone, so we just went around the long way. Safari was not even 15 minute wait to get on a bus and it was good to go out early. It's has always been my habit to show up at Parks before official opening - I just wish selfishly that less people knew about it.

This plan works even with EMH. I had a FOP fastpass for 6:30PM but got to the park at 7AM (amazing crowd already) for Navi. Navi was closed! Since I was in the front of the pack and on the move I continued to FOP and was on the ride within 20 minutes. WOW! Went directly to Navi (which was opened by then) and was on within 15 minutes. Double WOW! Had to walk to Africa the long way because the cast members were not allowing people to access Africa via the Pandora walkway which was PACKED. So, I rode FOP twice that day! It was worth getting up early and braving the crowds. Stunning how many people were rushing to join the line on my way out.

We planned to make it to AK at least an hour before opening time. Unfortunately that day there was massive busing issues. We ended up on a charter bus and got there only 30 minutes before opening and by the time we got to the line and the wait was already more than 2 hours. Luckily my brother in law decided to not use his fast pass and my husband and I were able to use rider switch as well.

This past summer went to AK early...6:30am! If you drive your own car and stay at a Disney Resort there is no fee to park. Park did a rolling open at 7:45 and we were on FOP by 8:20am. There were lots of people there and it was quite a trek to the ride (crowds), but being there early helped a great deal. Disney does a great job with crowd control...though I am sure they have to exercise patience. Once we got off we noticed that the wait rime quickly went up. From there, we wnt straight to the Navi River Journey. Would I do it again? Yup!

The advice in this video worked PERFECTLY for a group of 41 people I had at WDW a few weeks ago! (I showed them this video before we left Canada to 'scare' them.) So, for an 8am DAK opening, our group got on the first bus from POP (which came at 6:50am...we were at the bus stop at 6:30am to be sure to get the first) , and the last of our people were done FoP and Na'vi River Journey at 8:40am! Some of our group were done both rides 10 min. earlier. Then, past the people in the 2.5 hour queue for FoP and on to do Everest a couple times, Kilimanjaro Safaris, to Rifikis Planet Watch and eating at Satu'li Canteen at 11am. Thank you!!

Wow! I can't even wrap my head around trying to wrangle a group of 41. I'm so glad it worked for all of you, thank you so much for watching! - Brian

Great video! Will plan to do this in November when we visit. What would a good touring plan be after heading to 1)FOP, 2)Navi River Journey and 3)Kilimanjaro safaris after rope drop? And which rides after those would be good to fast pass?

Just by way of information. We were in AK on Friday the 10th. We had some indication that it could be busy since the holiday was celebrated that day but TouringPlans still estimated 45 minute wait times during the 9:00 hour. We got in line at 9:15 and waited for 5 hours to ride. During this time 3 different employees gave us categorically wrong information and thus we thought only an hour or so more. This is after we were initially told 2.5-3 hour wait and also that things would still be busy later in the afternoon. One of the ride operators told us that the line from the time/fast past stand is 2 hours from there. When we walked back by there later after our Navi River FP (4:00) the line was well inside of the time stand. If you are willing to wait the 2 hours (which I think is worth it, the ride is amazing), then don't waste your time in the morning...unless you are there well before rope drop like the video shows.

Love your videos. Very informative and fun. Had a question... my family and I always take our week long vacation to DW the second week of July. Right after the 4th. Do you think we should attempt to come for the 3rd and 4th and stay there throughout the weekend? Or the crowds are just so overwhelming that it’s not worth it?

Arriving early is the KEY -- but you still WAIT -- you just have to wait in the line to get into the park. In this video, he was lucky that they chose to open the park that much earlier. I LUV TouringPlans, but their crowd estimates are off by great amounts at times. We just went in mid January. Initial prediction was a '2' in Animal Kingdom. Afterward they said it was actually a '6'! We arrived at AK at 8:20am for a 9am opening. We went straight to Flight of Passage. Touring plans said our "wait" should be 35 minutes. We waited 115 minutes. Again, I luv TouringPlans, but their estimates can be grossly off.

Great video! We'll be there in June staying on property and I'm contemplating 2 options for the Pandora rides: 1. Go late on a Friday night (park currently set to close at 9pm) and try to ride both Pandora rides. 2. Go early Saturday morning during 8am EMH - hope to get there by 7am. Which would you recommend from a total wait perspective? If it's option 2, do you think 7am is early enough? Thanks!

Brian, I have a question about this Nov 16, 2017 video. Would you recommend the same 90-minutes-early strategy in 2019? Could it be relaxed to an hour or a half-hour early since the rides have been open for a couple more years now, especially after Star Wars? Thanks for all the videos!

Definitely waited more than an hour for that ride, it was amazing though. It wasn’t as long as that line, and it was summer! Going alone has it’s benefits for sure.

There's a downside to early easy entry and FP - you miss all the cool stuff set up to amuse and entertain you while standing in the long waiting line inside. If you are in the front part of the crowd when FOP opens the line is funneled through the FP pathway which does not go through the lab or past the history and decorations along the way. If you want to see the lab and additional "artifacts" then you need to stand in the regular line and later in the day.

Thanks for the video! I'm planning on rope drop the Flight of Passage on Feb 2020; your crowd calendar says it will be 9/10 crowd on that day. (even though it's Tuesday) My question is what was 'crowd level' when you film this video? So I can use it as a reference.

I'm a new annual pass holder. And I got to Flight of Passage at 9:10 am ( park opens at 9 ) the line was 2 hours long. I don't know much about extra magic hours and things like that as I've always been a Universal Studios kind of guy ( now employee ). But anyway I couldn't believe that line. But I had a fast pass for later in the day and can say this is the best ride there is right now

I'm glad you got to ride it. The line gets very large very quickly, you really have to be in the line by about 8:15am at the latest--they usually start running at around 8:30 or so. - Brian

I experienced the same exact thing you did. I kid you not. Back in October 2017, a group of friends and I decided to go to Disney World for vacation. I told them if they wanted to do all the new Pandora stuff, they'd have to get up early. They did not listen and decided to just sleep in :P HOWEVER! I wanted to ride this without the crazy wait, so I got up super early, had breakfast, and hopped on the first bus to Animal Kingdom I seriously thought i'd be the first and only person there. Boy was I wrong! There were already sooo many people waiting to get in to Animal Kingdom. I'm still trying to figure out just how so many people got there sooo early. Anyway, at the time I went, there was already a massive line into the Flight of Passage. It filled the entire que and went all the way to Africa and back to the bridge at the entrance to Pandora. I already came all this way, So I hopped in line and decided to just wait it out. Surprisingly, it didn't take long at all. It only took about 1 hour and fifteen minutes to get on (believe me, I started a stop watch to see just how long it took for me from the moment i hopped in line, to the moment they assigned us room numbers). Here's something I found out from a Cast Member who was working the line for this ride. He said that just because the wait time says 300+ minute wait, doesn't mean it's true. I figured "well yeah, it's an estimation. It's probably like, a few minutes off." But no, I was wrong. He reassured me saying that they purposely post the 300+ minute wait as a sort of tactic to get guests to not ride - to like, get them to disperse among the park. Some people will tough out the 300 minute wait, but a lot won't. What they don't know is that the wait to get on this ride is actually like, half the time they post. I only had to wait about an hour and fifteen minutes, and I was WAAAAAY in the back. I guess the reason they post these false high wait times is because if they posted shorter wait times, they'd have soooo many more people crowding the area, it would become intrusive to the other sections of the park. I mean, you saw how the line went all the way to Africa and back. Imagine if they posted the ACTUAL wait time of like, 1 hour and 15 minutes... That line would probably tripple in length, especially if there are people who are willing to wait out the 300 minute wait time falsely posted. I don't know... maybe I just had really REALLY good luck and they were able to load and unload riders fluidly without any technical difficulties or handicap assistance. One thing's for sure though! I rode it 4 times that day. Worth the wait, especially when I found out the wait time was actually a lot shorter than what they posted. Each time I got in line, I timed it, just to be sure the wait time really was shorter than they posted. It's definitely true. The wait times are false. :P Can't wait to go back October 2018! I hope Toy Story Land pulls a lot of the attention from Pandora.

Hi, Brian and Touring Plans crew. So thankful for the work you all put in for the rest of us to have a better experience. THANK YOU!! Our early May trip is all planned and ready with your AK rope drop strategy. Today they announced EMH for our AK date. We're staying off site. Would it be worth our effort to come to AK for FoP early still or does the standby fill up with all of the people who are allowed to take advantage of EMH. Feeling bummed as we've all watches this video as motivation for that early morning. Would love any advice! TIA!! :o)

Hi Brooke. Unfortunately Disney really hurt the off-site visitors with the everyday EMH in May and June. Getting there early would still get you ahead of lots of people (and maybe you'll get luck and get in a little early), but the best advice is probably to go late. The last 30-60 minutes of the day the wait times go down to 20-50 minutes on most days. Other than that, just keep an eye on the wait times when you're there -- there's usually a time in the middle of the day (starting around 11am) that the times dip a little. It'll still be an hour or so, but better than 3. Also, keep trying for those FastPasses! - Brian
