Try start rescue for breakdown cover almost 50% cheaper than AA or RAC and great service & price for full coverage!

Please note if you can not get you fuel cap off, If you have a tool kit with your bike just use the correct Allen key and undo the 5 or six bolts and hay Presto access to your fuel ⛽

Must be a Kawasaki thing, my 2013 Ninja 650 did the exact same thing and when turning the key it felt like it could break off if I had applied more pressure. I did have have chain lube which is all I had and it worked so now every so often I give it a spray to keep it lubed and to keep the moisture out which is all the more reason not to run gasoline tainted with ethanol in motorcycles.

I was thinking of giving the fuel cap a tap too lol, I've heard lots of stories of people snapping ER6 keys due to that issue glad you didn't

+Bikers Quest ah I didn't know it was a common thing! I can see how folks might have snapped the key tho - it starts to bend pretty quickly. Was seriously relieved when it popped open 😅

Cheers Andy - appreciate the kind words. Couldn't believe it when it opened so easily after a couple of whacks. I was starting to panic a little as I could feel the key starting to bend!

Thats OK! It was one of those "Silly" situations where it wasn't actually "Broken" it was just an obstacle you had to deal with first! PS, 1x Key?
@motobob
@motobob 7 лет назад
+Andy T yeah only one key when I bought it and it's not worth the £££ to get another. So I just have to be SUPER careful

That damn fuel cap!!! I own a 2009 ER6-N and mine got worse with time. Numerous times I couldn't open it at a gas station so decided to take it appart and I was staggered... Most if its internals are made of aluminum, which is unprotected and corrodes. Everything was covered in a nasty aluminum oxide layer and looked like it sit on the bottom of a lake. Had to wash and scrub everything in gasoline and rinse it in wd40. Also put a layer of mechanism oil on most aluminum parts to prevent oxidation but will probably have to do it again soon...
@motobob
@motobob 7 лет назад
+HemiHeadVee8 mine hasn't got that bad but it's definitely getting worse. Are all fuel caps not aluminium? Or is it just an ER6 thing?
@b21vco
@b21vco 7 лет назад
MOTOBOB I'm not sure, to be honest, but what I can tell you is that you should take it apart and clean it if it has already started to block. Clean everything you can and coat it with some sort of aluminum-friendly grease. I have some photos with the whole operation, pm me if you want to see them. Ride safe!

hi what wet weather gear did you have and did it keep you dry. thanks
@motobob
@motobob 7 лет назад
+Keith green hey Keith - some waterproof trousers from decathlon and a Richa rain jacket that I picked up from infinity motorcycles. It's pretty good cos it's high vis too. But I don't ride in really really heavy rain. But generally those two things keep me dry. I've got some revit waterproof gloves - they don't work that well in heavy rain but ok for a shower

Cool vid. I used to live in Aberystwyth back in 2002. Good biking roads. I wonder if your tank breather is blocked ?

Cheers! Yeah it's crazy how good the roads are. The surfaces are brilliant - like marble! Good point on the breather - I'll look into it. Literally...
