Last week I got the lucky chance to be able to ride in an in service NYC taxi Crown Victoria. Totally surreal experience riding one of these 2011s in the last days of 2021, almost 2022.
Yup. They've been the icons and face of New York City for years! Now all those Vics have been replaced by Toyota Priuses and Nissans, which I think is terrible.
I think Ford actually is going to bring back the Crown Victoria soon in a few years probably as an electric car, with its successors, the Ford Taurus and Ford Explorer, being over 10 years old by now! Besides, I'm pretty sure many police departments, taxi companies and car enthusiasts want to see a return of the iconic Crown Vic that has appeared in countless movies and TV series since 1992 and has since become one of the faces and icons of not just NYC, but America as a whole!
Ford has officially announced the possibility of a 4-door sedan variant of the Mustang. If it enters production, the EcoBoost would be an ideal option for a taxi, being an American RWD sedan with this one having a small engine for lower fuel consumption. This is why the 4-door EcoBoost Mustang would be an ideal taxi.
I'm so glad I'm a Vic owner now and can help keep these things alive. Thanks for getting this footage. Seeing inside the LWB model with all the cab bells and whistles was a treat.
Wow, you actually have a Crown Vic? Dang, I'm jealous! I wish I can own a Crown Vic soon, so that I can preserve one of these cars for the future, and also to scare drivers into thinking that I'm a cop. ;)
On my trip to NYC in September 2019, I got to hail and ride in Crown Vic taxi 8C98. Having wanted to just see one my whole life, I couldn't believe it when I saw it pull up. Truly a dream come true having experienced one of these! I believe that the last ever NYC Crown Vic taxi retires in May 2023, so not long left now guys!
My friend, I almost forgot how it feels to be in a Crown Victoria. My dad used to drive one here in nyc in 2009 or 2010 I don’t remember but thank u so much for this video💯 and thank u for bringing me flashbacks💪🏽
That was a great catch. So sad they're almost all gone. These were the best cars to drive as cabs. The only other one that looks as good is 6Y12, the undercover cop cab car. It's in the West Village all the time.
Wow, I didn't know that Ford Crown Victorias were still in service as taxis in NYC, about 10 years since they stopped being built! They're basically one of the famous icons of NYC, and America as a whole! Although, the driver of this particular Vic stated that he thinks that there are only about 6 Crown Vics still in service, so unforunately I don't think they're going to stay on New York's streets any much longer, now that it's 2022. Hopefully, Ford will make the decision to bring this car back soon, so that the Vic can live once more again in the present day!
Glad that you got your own in 2022. The Crown Jewels of inner city transportation. A limousine for welfare moms taking their kids to school or the doctor, and then picking up a high powered Wall Streeter mover and shaker finishing a billion dollar deal on the phone as he or she rides in the back to the office or club. Maybe a billionaire like Elon will buy the assembly line and start making these again with electric or hydrogen motors. And there's always the internal combustion old reliable engine to fall back on when 'green' doesn't cut it.
Wow that’s awesome, I am extremely lucky to own a genuine retired crown Vic NY taxi medallion number 1M93 here in the U.K. that retired in 2019. I’ve unfortunately never managed to go to NY but hopefully will later on this year.
Ford shot themselves in the foot when they discontinued a time proven work horse, same with the Econoline vans. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!
I drove in one back in late 2017... didn't wan't to get into a Prius or a Nissan NV so i really waited an hour to catch one. It unit C684 who drove me from Union Square park to Manhattan on a hot early october night.
Doing gods work saving and videoing the old cabs. Greetings from Australia Look up for falcon AU taxi And/or Ford falcon BA taxi for the aussie version based on the aussie ford falcon ( they where inline 6 )
How can that CV still be in service in 2022? I thought there was a NYC law that stated a cab had to be retired from taxi service after the car turned 7 years old. That cab has to be at least 11 years old!
I have some doubts about the car models you got in the U.S. I am from Argentina, and here the cars that look more or less like Crown Victoria were discontinued in the 90's or early 00's to be replaced for new models or new generations from the same model that looked more modern than the existing by the time. Those models are, in great part, pretty similar to the cars we got nowadays (Example: toyota corolla, the models from the 90's are so different from the ones we got today, but the ones from the early 00's are similar to the new ones). What is curious for me is that in many movies from the U.S you see people driving cars that look old (but I know that cars are not too expensive in U.S, so I guess that actually they aren't old). In adition, the other day I was exploring some locations from the U.S with Google Street View, and if I switched the year of the footages to 2007-2012, cars looked, in many cases, really old. If I see the footages from 2021, the majority of the cars change, are different in shape and design, and look similar to the ones we got here in Argentina since many years ago. The question would be, am I right? Did you still produce cars with "old designs" in the recent years? What were the most popular models? And finally, are you replacing those models for new ones that look newer? Greetings!
