Love it! Really nicely done with some nice touches, look at that exhaust routing. There are 1499 Desmo's being paddled around by people who can't ride, this one is leaving black lines on the way into corners :)
@markadorjan Read the article. This is his 3rd Desmo. One he rides, one is brand new, not out of the crate. This bike he bought as a salvage title. Besides, the way it sounds, if he wanted, since none of the parts were cut, you could re-assemble it to stock. Pull off the RSD parts and put the stock ones back on. But this bike is so sick I wouldn't. A Desmo that looks sick and can slide like that! Awesome.
bikes are meant to be ridden, customize, and take care of,if you leave a Duc,MV,or even a Honda, sitting in your garage because you are afraid to 'ruin' your bike,is like having a beautiful, sexy wife, but you won't 'ride' her because you're afraid to hurt her.
Totally agree. I used to commute on a full Ohlins 748R and put 30k miles on it, much to the horror of those ducatisti who simply park their bike in a heated garage and then look at it for the rest of its unused and unfulfilled life
you guys don t know that the modifications are fully reversible on this special, and made to bring teh bike stock in few hours. It is a great exercise! thumbs up!
I definitely like the look of it like if I had the money I would do the same to an 1198 since you would be getting basically the same thing for a fraction of the cost but to have the rarity of the desmo is an honor of the rider and owner himself.
Why are people criticizing Sands? This is what he does...you can't criticise a scorpion for being a scorpion...doesn't mean you have to like it...but don't criticize the man...he's creating what he likes...and I happen to think it's amazing work
Too many whiners. Bike looks good and is fully reversible to stock. As soon as a motorcycle is purchased by someone it's theirs to do whatever they want with it. Creative expression a great thing because you're catering to what you like not what others like. Guess it's part of the reason why he's still in business and why most of you don't have your own businesses.
If you have ever ridden flat-track, you'd understand. Of course he chopped up a street-legal GP bike, but by doing so, he made the ultimate dirt tracker. Believe me, he didn't "ruin" anything.
Has the power of a two-stroke but is a four-stroke. And you have more "slide freedom". Yeah, I would be inclined to do the same. Beautiful bike before and after.
@mcernicky1 How does this bike compare to the custom R1 street tracker? Both look like more fun than should be legal! Maybe a comparison in the future?
@tameemz90 I wasn't knocking your comment. An 1198 would be cool too. I meant that Roland Sands ripped up one piece of art to make his own piece. What he came up with is definitely sweet, but it's a little sad that a very rare bike had to be gutted in the process. But I guess there's more of them. If he started tearing down Burt Monroe's Indian Scout, that would be unforgivable.
Cool. It seems way too much power for dirt. You need traction control. Very nice looking. I'm a Multistrada rider (which I won't even take off road....).
@leadslinky My comment is in No way a hate comment, or a comment meant to be putting this bike down. I personally love this bike but all i was saying is that it could have been done with an 1198. But one Great point cycle magazine brought up is using the Desmosedici also added emphasis and publicity to the custom build.
I'd been waiting to see a video featuring this bike... just a shame that most of the sounds seem to be muted - I really wanted to hear that bike scream...
That is cool...roland sand has a visual mind customising motorcycles. Desmosedici is a cool bike but what roland sand made is way too cool.. Roland sand designs are out of this world
Hmmmm first thought was.... O M G!!!! what they have done, but the more i see this bike the more i like her!! btw, i think that they didnt ruined it, they can rebuild it (kept all the parts to do it ,fairing fuel tank etc) read that on a motorbike magazine sry 4 my english not my native language
Why are so many people so hurt? He's simply making a STREET version of a Desmosedici.. If you guys rode one in real life it would probably be too harsh for real road use. All he did was change the suspension and tires and left the chassis alone, all the stock parts can go right back on.. Its not a big deal.
I never thought I would see the day that someone turned a desmosedici into a dual-sport lol. Honestly, If i were rich as fuck, I'd totally buy this over the stock bike.
I think the Desmosedici was waaay better than the bike that came out of it. Next time you should choose another bike instead of ruining a beautiful Ducati!
In the late 1970's I recall Suzuki TZ750 raced and won. It was slow in the turns and passed everyone on the straights. It was banned. Ducati tried. And lost. I think the Harley hits 180 degrees each cyl. and Ducati hit differently. And Honda tried and won and was banned in the early 1980's.
That is one bad ass burly dirt tracker! Right on! I think its great. I wish I had a $ for all the haters on youtube. Then I could build one just to piss em off!
Excellent Roland! You best work IMHO You stated all the reasons this bike should be made in your interview. This is so beautiful. Someone would have to be gay not to like this bike. When does Nicky get to ride it?
Points for trying something different. But there's a reason no one else has done this. Kind of a shame to do this to something so pure in it's intent and design. It was already a thing of beauty.
and for our next project we're turning Michelangelo's David into a swing set and slippery dip at McDonalds playground. He's going to be painted up to look like the hamburgurler.
Why would you take a jewelers hammer and turn it into a sledge hammer no one can pick up? I like thinking outside the box and the MC industry could use some more but sometimes what gets thought up just lays there outside the box. MHO
It's a brave project, but I can't help but think they could have done it with a 1098 and still achieved a similar result. The end bit seems a bit too "humble" considering where it's come from...
I agree. Don't get why they'd do this to such a beautiful bike - Don't see why they didn't do this with something that isn't already beautiful by default.
You people need to get over it. Just because he took a bike and put his own spin on it doesnt mean its wrong. Its his bike and he can do what he wants with it. Its called personal styling. Its the reason we dont all drive cookie cutter white prius. Also, how many people do you think actually ride one of these 100,000 dollar Desmosedici race bikes?? Thats the shame that these beautiful machines are bought by rich urban guys that dont even ride and they sit in a garage like a trophy...
