I've been on that chair lift many times over the past 30 years. The landscape has certainly changed, as where the big 'sand slide' is once over the tree tops, that all used to be bushes, vegetation and so on. On the way back up, we used to look to see how many shoes, cameras, handbags, hats etc we could count, as of course no one was allowed to climb up to try and retrieve them. I wonder if they collected them all when they had the 'sand slip'. It's down on the beach there that they get all the coloured sands from. There is also a fairly big shop up top where kids can buy and empty bottle of various shapes, and fill it with all the different coloured sands, then they seal it for you. Looks really pretty when finished. There also used to be a glass blowing studio and some other bits there. When you go over on the ferry, pick up one of each of the Isle of Wight guides that they have on the ferry, as you often get discount vouchers for many of the attractions. Thank you for this video. It has helped me as I usually go to the Isle of Wight each year, but now my health is failing and I am single, it's not as easy for me to go and not sure I will be able to get there again. I really miss it.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I can certainly imagine it has changed quite a bit over the past 30 years. Make you wonder what it will be like in another 30 years time.
Born and bred on Island use to go to Alum Bay as a teenager in the early 70s befor the chairlift, use to race each other up the steps then , struggle to walk up stairs to bed now days😄😄
Hope you had a good time mate. The weather was great, but if I'm being honest,it was a bit too hot, hence why we decided against the boat trip,as we didn't fancy standing around in the blazing sun for 2 hours.
I live in Gosport just over the water on the ferry over to Portsmouth… I was watching your Majorca floods video and I was there in the hotel opposite yours you can see! Haha small world x
Thing is there is a risk in pretty much everything we do,and I suspect you are more likely to be killed driving to the chairlift than actually riding it.
Not at all the time. I've been living here for eight years and special in the summer, you sometimes have heat/sun for weeks without rain. But for some reason the Brits always forget about it as soon as there's a cloudy day with rain. 😂
I remember doing that thirty years ago with parents..you could buy various glass ornaments with varied colour sand in it as the rock has different coloured rock in it….but quite the drop going
@@TheTechGiantRU-vid lol…stunning part of the world…I’m from near Newcastle,so pity my parents, with kids, hot weather and road works..was about eight hours to get there,…but beautiful ,the sea reminded me of Mediterranean places with its colourful water..hope you had great holiday
Absolutely beautiful Brotein Shake! Yes, videos like this are always welcome. Wholesome content that shows the beauty of the land, nature, theme parks, etc. Always appreciated. It can't always be about t.v. Sometimes, people seeing stuff outside of their living rooms may inspire them. Hope you have been able to return to the gym. You are looking jacked. May God Bless you and your family 👪🙏
I visited today believe it or not! 🥶 About 5°c with a little wind and chuffing freezing overall. The pylon before the drop is covered in scaffolding, the cliff beyond is seriously eroded and for my money unless its foundations are at least 20 metres deep they're going to need to spend hundreds of thousands before they can let anyone near it again. I've been on plenty of ski lifts and this thing looked way, way sketchier than anything I've seen in the Alps, to the point I was amazed it was still apparently in use until recently.
That's a shame, but not a surprise. We aim to visit again this coming Summer, and will be gutted if it is out of action. But like you say it is pretty sketchy, and there were rumours a while back that it would soon have to be looked at due to the erosion.
Thanks for the video. I went on this as a kid in the 80s and now I’m taking my wife and kid this summer to do the same! Though I already know my wife won’t ride it as she hates heights and my daughter will be 4 (on the day we do it) and she’s a fidget so I’m not sure about taking her on. Shame about the boat queue but there seems a lot to do there now.
Yeah it a nice few hours out. I would recommend getting there early in the day if you can, as the attractions do get busy, as you’ve seen, plus the car park gets rammed in the height of the season. But that's most places I suppose.
You know what’s funny, I heard you say that apparently they need to move it soon, but I went on there just last month and it was still in the same position 😂
Nice! I remember doing this Alum Bay chairlift 28 years ago….must have been before the land slip because I remember when you got to the edge of the cliff all you could see was the sea! It was very unnerving….and needless to say I walked back up…..😄 Lovely weather….
Same thing with blackgang chine. It was all there last time I was in the IOW. I know they built a new one, but the old place has pretty much all slid into to the sea.
Hi we went in the chair lift today- it was open and we had a great time ❤👍🏼 we wanted to take the boat over to the white coves but the visitors centre said it was not running due to the weather which was unfortunate. However, we have been on the chairlift today and have brought the fridge magnets as souvenirs- don’t sit on chair 39- the girl in the photoshop told us this is 1/3 chairs which doesn’t get snapped by their camera 📷 so unfortunately we couldn’t buy thd picture of our kids. We all went in, it was great. Would definitely recommend it it if your visiting the Needles. 😊🎉
