The Marmotte Alpes was equally beautiful and painful. Epic is the only word to describe it. Though it didn't turn out as planned, it was still a great experience. Yes this video is on the longer side, but cutting it shorter wouldn't do this ride justice. Enjoy!

Absolutely incredible Clint. Really really enjoyed the video. I am glad you made it as detailed as possible and the commentary really conveyed everything. it felt like I was there with you. And people just don't understand how hard it is to be on a saddle for 9 hours. A true accomplishment despite your jet lag. BRAVO.

Sometimes epic is overused in cycling videos, but in this case Clint, it is definitely appropriate! Great job and such great scenery and iconic landscapes! Maybe some day you can go back and do it without the jet lag and enjoy it a little more! Wonderful video!

I just love the attitude of most cyclists... "So jetlagged I nearly fell asleep on a 30km decent at 60kph, and later, vomited at the foot of one of the hardest climbs in Europe, which I then rode up.... 11/10, would totally do again!" Great video Clint. Glad you've had a great time in Europe :)

You've captured the experience of riding La Marmotte perfectly. I can only concur with everything you say. Sadly I had to abandon before the second hairpin on Alpe D'Huez and gutted comes nowhere close to how I felt. Congratulations on finishing.

You convinced me. I have just registered for the marmotte alps 2019! I will arrive on the Thursday before the event. I hope I will not be affected by the jet lag (I live in Montreal). I hope to do it in 8h. Thanks Clint!

Well done Clint, looked like a tough ride even without the jetlag and illness. Thanks for explaining the ride, could have just put a bit of music to the video, but you took the time to edit and describe everything, FANTASTIC!! How did you cope with the language? Head back to France next year around the same time and try the MEGAVALANCHE! Brutal but in a different kind of way!

Thanks for sharing, Glint! It´s really much appreciated. Hopefully the nest time you´ll miss all the troubles and enjoy it even more. Allow me a questin, please, what did you use for recording this vid? I´m fascinated by all the clear and in focus views during the ride. Did record vids with my DSLR but those are really painful things.

Excellent video Clint. Those 20 minutes felt like 5 because of the great commentary and beautiful shots. How many hours a week did you train in the past like 4-6 month? I'd like to do this event maybe next year and I am wondering how much training is necessary to actually enjoy the event. Congrats on the finish, definitely epic!
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 6 лет назад
I would ride about four days during the week around an hour and then put in my long ride on Saturday, which worked up to about a hundred miles for the last two or three rides.

The stunning village after the Telegraphe is called Valloire. It is quite the place ! Also puts a massive knot in my stomach to think that the Marmotte Pyrenees is apparently harder than this one, and I am hoping to do that this year. Am hoping that my base fitness will allow me to train for that in about 2-3 months of regular riding (once every 2 days or so I am thinking)
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 4 года назад
That's awesome! I wish you the best! Though the jet lag really hit me hard I was blown away by the scenery of this ride. I want to go back over and just tour on my own time schedule.

@@ClintGibbs what training, if any, did you do in addition to your four weekly rides to prepare for La Marmotte ? My main concern is that living in southern england, I will struggle to train for the long climbs, as southern england doesn't have many long climbs

Great clips Clint. Is 4 w/kg enough to complete the Marmotte comfortably?
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 3 года назад
Absolutely. My advice always for a longer event is to never redline it. Ride at your own pace and don't try to keep up with someone who flies past you. They're either much stronger than you or they're going to blow up.

I get the jetlag thing completely, when.I visit Europe and come back to east to Australia I suffer awfully with it. Going over there it's just fine. You can.get.over the counter meds, melatonin I believe and that works well I've heard but.yet to try it. I find Europe very addictive.it's.great in the villages especially.
