Riding The First Long Island Rail Road [LIRR] Kawasaki M9 Revenue Train Out of NY Penn Station 

This is basically an M8 interior but with blue seats turned the wrong way round. Love that the onboard announcements make it abundantly clear to passengers which cars will open at which stations, they need that on Metro-North.

I take the LIRR to work every morning and watching this is stressing me out.

The M9 looks really cool and I hope I’ll get to ride it someday. On all my experiences of traveling on the LIRR, I have only gotten M7s. I also hope someday I’ll get to be in the M3 but with the M9 coming into play, I don’t think I will be able to. Man I wish I lived back up on Long Island.

The car chimes and the verbage sound identical to those in the Bombardier M7 except that a female voice replaces the male voice heard on board M7s. As previously stated the announcements are identical. However, I did not hear the famous "As you leave the train, please step over the gap between the train and the platform." The train horn even sounds like the M7

Nothing new except the automatic door between cars which is actually great. Current doors are so dangerous and freakin heavy to pull.

It will only take a week before the seats are torn up and the bathrooms are unusable. Then they raise the fairs and give themselves a raise.

8 car train? I thought LIRR ran 10 or 12 car trains. Why the short train? And once you get inside? There's good news and bad news. The good news? It's a train. The bad news? It's a train. In today's world, I'm surprised that the trains have lavatories. I wouldn't trust them. And these "railfans" packing the thing in hopes of what? Who knows. The joy of a hobby, I guess. And the people sitting in the seats are most likely regular riders. It appears that they could care less what they're riding on as long as it gets them to their home station. My real disappointment is that the RFW is gone. We're now consigned to side window videos. For me, that is sad.
