◆JR Kyushu Shinkansen runs between Hakata and Kagoshima-Chuo(via Kumamoto).
There are 3 types Shinkansen in Kyushu Shinkansen, MIZUHO, SAKURA and TSUBAME.
MIZUHO and some SAKURA continue to Sanyo Shinkansen Line, but TSUBAME is only available in Kyushu Shinkansen.

Awesome video as always... Just a quick suggestion... Maybe have a simple map of Japan in the beginning showing where you are going and the stops? That would be an awesome touch!

Solo Travel Japan has a few little tricks I'd love to see Kuga do. Like when he individually names all of the food items, as well as what you suggested. Helps us who aren't from Japan figure out what's what.

Well-made video! Just about 50 years ago, I rode the "bullet train" from Kyoto to Tokyo in 1971 (Boy Scouts, World Jamboree, I was only 15 yrs. old). I love these trains!!

"Bear" is the first thing I thought of for Kumamoto because of the "Kuma" part. I didn't know about Kumamon. I'd seen the character before but I never knew the name or where it was from until now. Love learning new stuff from your videos.

I absolutely love the Japanese styles in this Shinkansen. Tokaido Shinkansen should also design the cars and seats with Japanese styles.

That seat pitch at 4:42 is insanely good. An airline executive would be looking at that space and thinking, "I could cram 100 more passengers into here, easy." Why does JR leave the phones in the trains if they're no longer working? Do they intend to turn them back on at some point, or are they just taunting people? :)

The 800 series Tsubame is my favourite shinkansen by far and has the best colour scheme too! There is even a coach that matches it that runs from Shin-Yatsushiro to Miyazaki!

On the subject of Kyushu Shinkansen, can't wait to see you take the West Kyushu route to Nagasaki next year. ;) I do hope we see the extension east to Beppu, Oita, and Miyazaki one day, too.

We boarded the Mizuho from Hakata - Kumamoto in 2019. Also spotted Seven Stars In Kyushu at Beppu. What an experience!

Japan also was massivly blown up and burned down by the B-29's and the US Navy and got to rebuild from scratch on US money. Ireland didn't.

Interesting. I took the Shinkansen from Fukuoka to Kumamoto in late 2019 but it didn't really leave any lasting impression as being more beautiful than other routes. My wife bought the tickets so I'm unsure on which of the three varieties we took. And I'm not really a train nerd like so many around the world seem to be. 😃 Here's a thumbs up to any sort of travel around Kyushu. Wonderful friendly landscape, people and delicious food. 👍

Do Japanese Railcompanys have discount cards like the Germans? E.g. like the BahnCards which will give you 25 or 50% discount on the ticket price. There'd even the BahnCard 100 which enables you to ride a year without buying tickets (it's pretty expensive tho and not many people i know use it).

There are all sorts of discounts by each of the train companies. Seasonal, frequent route, student, tourist, pre-purchase, selected route, etc., etc discount programmes all exist. If you plan ahead and are prepared to use a variety of trains then travel can get pretty cheap in Japan. It's a very pleasant way to see lots of the country.

I especially liked the aesthetics in Car 2 - all that warm wood with black cushions. Simple beauty = elegance 🙂! The kind of design that the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright so admired in Japan 🙂.

Great video as always! I think you should try the current limited express Kamome service from Hakata to Nagasaki. The one with 885 Series. It has the same design rolling stock as LNER Azuma in UK. I think it would be an amazing trip!

You have to admire the infrastructure and technology but also how does this work? All of these lovely bullet trains speeding from city to city with virtually no people on them. There must be large subsidies provided by the government and funded by the Japanese people to keep them running.

What a beautiful train! And so clean! Here in Australia we have to put up with trains that are nowhere near as good, or as fast, and definitely not as clean. Aussies love to scratch their names on train windows and leave ugly graffiti and tags everywhere. Even our stations are dirty and not well maintained. I loved living in Japan for a while and still miss it.

The 800 Series Shinkansen is limited to a top speed to 260 km/h, hence the reason why it runs only between Hakata and Kagoshima-Chūō stations. They run both the all-stops _Tsubame_ and limited-stop _Sakura_ services.
