I just don't get matte paint. From polishing an apple for my teacher to polishing my cars, gloss has been everything to a good paint job.

I was in Flanders a few weeks ago and was struck by how loyal the Belgians were to their local brand, so I wonder if that's how they can charge such a premium price for this! I've always felt that Ridleys were a little overpriced, but they are a brand that seem to get discounted heavily, so maybe this is one to wait for. Lovely bike, though

I could buy a Gusto bike Di2 105 for 2300US...Pogacar used to ride their bikes. So they should be pretty decent.

Which is why I insist on direct to consumer framesets to build up. As long as major names are charging ridiculous prices I will not support them.

Canyon is direct to consumer and very mass produced. They can be priced lower since there are not distributed. This should have been mentioned.

It's definitely a nice bike, but it shouldn't even come in at 5k. Same for other brands at a similar spec.

Saw one in my local bike two days ago for a customer ready to pick up. It had a few mods but base groupset was Sram force and it was £9200. Ridiculously overpriced for such average spec with a few mods. There going to struggle to sell them at that price.

They must have been some expensive mods, as the bike can be had full build with DTSWISS ARC1400 wheels for £8199. As with any bike you can make it as expensive or as cheap as you want to, all depends on the size of your wallet.

You compared the wrong sl8 model. The ultegra pro variant is 9000,- Also do note that you can order the bike with customized colours. I'm a huge fan of the bike and it's pricepoint is totally fine compared to what other brands offer outside from b2c model brands. Cannondale himod 2 costs 9k, specialized costs 9k

@@taxi9554 300 grams when i weighted both bikes, same size. Depending on who you ask a big or small difference. The ridley should be 800 euros cheaper including getting it painted the way you like it (last time i checked). I have no doubt the sl8 is one of the best bikes on the market, but the ridley has more soul to me. I also do wonder about the aerodynamics of it, it looks faster than the sl8

@@taxi9554 we're on the same page, i feel like this review is not very fair to ridley. The reason the price is higher in the uk is probably some brexit fun. In the rest of the world the bike is priced totally fine as an all out competition grade race bike.

great test but check your price comparisons again, ok for Canyon which is cheaper than all the other brands. But compared to competing brands like Trek, Specialiszed or Cervélo, Grifn is well positioned in terms of price!

I can’t think of a single feature that any generation of Giant Propel has brought to market that wasn’t already done by someone else. It’s a good bike, Giant is a leader in manufacturing, but I can’t say the same of their design.
