Thanks for the review, we went to the Riedel Performance glass tasting in Ottawa in the Fall, Doing a review tonight at home with guests to show them the difference. Thanks for the tip of using a " sample" glass" as the comparator.
How does the Performance range perform vs other Riedel varietal specific glasses? For example does Pinot Noir taste different, better, worse in a Vinum Pinot stem vs a Performance Pinot stem?
I was going to say the same, but it is possible that the swirling in the different glasses produces different degree of aeriation. As such, it could change the taste in the mouth. But the psychological influence cannot be discounted, for example, the smell does affect the tasting experience. A real test would be blind folding with someone holding the glasses, i.e., double-blind, and rate each according to aroma and taste.
Come on man total nonsense. I have these glasses and it don’t matter what you drink from. Quality of wine is what counts. The glasses are excellent but your full of it
it does really does, have done blind taste test before on this (with various different beverages too) but NGL I wouldn't go out and buy super fancy glasses for slight differeneces, as long as it has a "aroma funneling" effect (the largest difference IMO) and allows for large enough headroom you're most of the way there to a great glass
It doesn't change the taste itself obviously but it can affect how you perceive/experience the taste. But I agree that it's only minor influences. More effective glass/shape won't magically create something new that less effective glass/shape lacks.
