Hi guys Bryce, your ranger is a beast. I love it. You were talking about water in fuel problems, and the issues you both had with the ford service guys worry me a bit. My wife and I are looking at purchasing an xlt ranger ute for towing a caravan and now having second thoughts. We test drove one and were impressed. Hmmm don't know now. Thanks for the vid

Hey mate, thanks for that! Water in the fuel issue was with our triton travelling from kununurra to Adelaide over new years, so not ford related! The service centres do give me the shits thats for sure! Other than that we love it!

Great video mate as usual, I have just picked up a XLT Bi Turbo and towed my 3.0t caravan on a recent 7 day trip and I was getting around 15.0L per 100 but I am impressed with the way it towed compared to the 3.2L I previously had. Oil temp only got to half way normal flat roads and on the hilly stuff it climbed to 3/4. The tow mode feature is a game changer I think and it works well. From one South Aussie to another safe travels.

Hi We have the 2016 XLT and I keep the transmission in sport mode when towing our 2.5 ton van. 2 years on the road, 50,000km and touch wood no problems.

Regarding trans temps. If it worries you, try locking the car into a gear rather than letting it shift automatically. Most of the temp is going to be generated by the torque converter. I find manually selecting a gear keeps the trans far cooler as the torque converter isn't "slipping" and generating heat. Worth a shot if you are concerned on big climbs. I monitor our temps with a scan gauge, they typically sit in the 75-85C range towing uphill/down dale in NZ in 25-30C ambient temps. If I leave it in auto, the fluid temp directly out of the TC spikes immediately but the pan fluid temp takes longer to climb (and fall).

Good video. Agree the Ranger is a good ute, but I'm avoiding Ford due to their after sales service which appears to be a common story.

It's a frustrating situation, super capable vehicle but poor support from Ford and there service centres.

rotating tyres isnt part of the service, i was the same, also to service a ranger in an hour is bs. Great set up mate my oil return line decided to pop at 14,000 km not happy as the ute was only 10 months old at the time.

just on the Less than helpful Ford service centres, John Cadogan, Auto expert, RU-vid, has identified that this is an ongoing issue with Ford. having said that, good to see the Ranger does ok. Frank from Sydney. PS, I opted out of the Mitzi 10 year rip off service agreement coz i had the luxury of a reputable mechanic to do my services for a lot less and actually doing stuff.. Being on the road, yea, tis a gambit you play, however no one is glued to a manufacturers arrangement here in OZ

Great setup guys. I'm picking up a new xlt this week getting canopy and the same bull bar. Just curious did you get the full gcm & gvm upgrade with your plate stamped or just the upgrade with out going getting it stamped ? Also, have played around with the different modes to see what is best or just use tow/haul mode ? Looking forward to hitting the road in ours

We haven't got it stamped at all but potentially in the future depending on upgrades 👍🏽 We put it in tow mode and let the car do the thinking! 👍🏽

Did you lift the car when you did the suspension or just upgrade the load rating? Also are you happy with the 500kg rating for the back? Very nice, clean build!

When we put the suspension upgrade in we also got a 2 inch lift t the same time 👍 500kg is good but I would almost put an extra leaf in also, 600kg would be perfect.

Keep up the good work, do yourself a favour and buy a scangauge, it will give you your exact trans temp plus exact coolant, can read fault codes and importantly if you get a fault code and the car goes into limp mode, you can clear the code and continue on till you can fix the fault permanently, plus i have a engine guard cylinder head alarm, regards Tony

How do you find the Wildpeak tyres i loved them for handling but was very disappointed with longevity on the rear whilst towing my van around 2,3 ton 240 KG towball weight

Do you lock out 9-10th gear when towing? i was advised to with my ranger as 8th is 1-1 ratio which is better for towing.

Good comment. Just got back from a weekend away with my V6 towing a 2500T van and tried the changes with the transmission gearing after reading a number of posts. By restricting it to 8th gear I felt it definitely provided better economy, responsiveness and what appeared to be cooler temps particularly considering I was driving in a 32 degree outside temp. Peace of mind. Additionally, predominately sitting on 96 kph, nil wind effect and on a flat road, it returned around 15.5 lt per 100. Pleased with that.

I have been locking out gears and leaving it in tow mode to try the differences and haven't noticed much of a difference. Still testing it out, but the engineers designed it to tow in all 10 gears so I don't mind trusting them, they are a lot smarter than me 😂

Good review mate. Ford are not on heir own with poor servicing and warranty work. Unfortunately the days are gone where you could do your own servicing due to the complexity of modern cars.

I fitted 70R and speedo became accurate HOWEVER fuel economy became aweful. On the next set I put standard back on and fuel economy returned to a good range. Just saying.
