Soulful singer/songwriter Esmé Patterson squeezed in a quick interview with PG’s John Bohlinger just minutes before her show in Nashville. Armed with a two-dollar pedalboard and “Cruella,” Patterson hits the road hard to promote her latest album, 'We Were Wild.'

Esmé’s manager decided it was time for her to step up to a more professional axe and he gave her this ESP Ron Wood signature model. Due to the black and white color scheme, she dubbed this guitar “Cruella” (du Vil-after the villain in 101 Dalmatians) and it has become her No. 1.
The backup guitar is a Squier Strat with a matching red headstock purchased for $100 in Portland at Trade Up Music.

I love when they do these small local type Rig Rundowns. This one is perfect, here is a smaller artist in a small room / club. I still dig these.

Would really love a Matt Pike rig rundown, would be sick. I know you have one from ages ago but it's so short and it's with High on Fire and you know with Matt Pike it's gotta be done when he's out with Sleep!

I have a similar homemade pedal board that a friend made for me. I had to cut off the bottom to put the pedals closer to the floor while keeping the angle. Helped a lot.

Does anyone know why she would put her tuner towards the end of her board? I’m kind of new to pedal boards and have always seen them at the front, is there a benefit to having it where she has it or maybe she has a reason? If anyone else puts there tuner there I’d love to know why... maybe I should try it

I saw Esme live in Winnipeg (opening for Great Lake Swimmers I think). She was awesome! I bought her albums. They also rock.

I had a Mesa Caliber 50 in the 80's and it sounded unbelievable. Looks pretty much the same as her studio 22. Wish I wouldn't have sold it.

I love Esme's music. And I LOVE the fact that her rig is so simple. Too many people out there believe that you have to have huge stacks and multi-thousand-dollar guitars. If you have the music in your heart and in your hands, then that's all that really counts. This just made me an even bigger fan.

I noticed the other amp for the other guitarist is an excelsior. Those are killer amps for the money. I'm only aware of the artist's voice from shakey graves past album. Great vocalist!

I always wonder, does PG know when they leave the office if they're about to record one of those epic 45 minute rig rundowns or if it's going to be one of these 6 minute jobs? Like, what happened after they recorded this? Lunch? Rest of the day off? Stay for the show?

sweetie if i ever meet you , i think i´ll buy you a couple of good guitars ! not from my extensive collections, i´m fortune to have amazing guitars, but sweetness you deserve better gear then you have !! so your manager will not to be the only one to give you gear ! but it´s not a bad guitar the ESP ron wood you have !! keep on giving concerts and envolving your art ! regards

5 Seconds of Summer only have a bad reputation because they're a bunch of pretty guys that have a fangirl following. Seriously, look up the songs Permanent Vacation and Over and Out if you want some good guitar and if you wanna see some solos look up the song Castaway live. There is no denying they have a killer live performance esp with upbeat songs. (check out their vevo certified for that)

i feel like nobody understood this comment at all. this woman seems very sweet and nice; she's very pretty; her music might be cool, and i'd like to check it out. her gear just isn't interesting to me. my comment wasn't a jab at her music, i was just saying that a 100 dollar squier is not all that interesting to see.

Corey Mineard i don't know if it's really relevant, but i gigged in a blues band for 10 years professionally, and then i started composing and recording soundtracks for film, several of which have won awards at large film festivals. but even if that wasn't the case, a stock, 100 dollar squier strat still isn't all that interesting.

Female musicians all sound the same. They have literally zero sense of originality. Kittie is one of the only bands with chicks that don't sound like every female whiney voice.
