Seen this band two times in the last 10 years once indoor once outdoor. have to say that their sound is one of the best live sounds I have ever experienced. Found this video very informative to know how the magic happens!
I've been waiting for this episode for a long time, I never thought you guys would actually do it! Thank you! These guys are by far my favorite band (currently together).
Best Live Band I have ever saw and and even better group of guys. Do yourself a favor and don't miss them in a live performance. Their albums are great, but their live show is on another level.
Warmoth guitars are excellent instruments...their wide range of customization options are incredible...I have two, a Telecaster with Seymour Duncan Lil' 59 in the bridge and Hot Rails rhythm in the neck....and a Telecaster with twin P-90's from Warmoth....
One of my favorite guitars is an old Warmoth LP flat top with Duncans and an 80's Kahler trem. I've got a Warmoth Tele-Gib with a Dimarzio PAF wired like an Esquire. Love it.
I'm so greatful to Orange for their great amps. My home rig and live rig are all Orange. I love the Toadies and have been a fan since 95. I have always loved their tone. Great band and so cool that they demo their gear themselves.
Dude! That Jazzmaster! I don’t know almost anything about the toadies, but this dude to a tea built one of my dream guitars! It’s criminal that no companies hardly ever have put a Floyd in a jazzmaster style body. You can do warmoth or recently, SBS Guitars sells a cheap one (I’m about to buy one). Also, that same type of pickup is what I use! It’s the one Eddie Van Halen designed w/ Seymour Duncan. I have a recreation of the Wolfgang USA pickups. That thing fits in a mix the way rock guitar/distorted amps were made to. powerful mids and bass and treble are just right. I love this dude!
Update: I bought an SBS Jazzmaster. Had to do work on one single fret, then after that, was just fine for my taste. I've changed some of the aesthetics and I'm going to put uncovered humbuckers on it, going with an all white plastic and sonic blue paint color scheme, along with block inlay decals to give it the '66 Jazzmaster look.
Not hating, but I'm surprised the Toadies were the D/FW band to gain (and maintain) national fame. There were so many better local bands in the 90's (Reverend Horton Heat, Course of Empire, etc.), but none had the Toadies staying power. Kudos to the band for their persistence.
Saw the Toadies open for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, when I was maybe a freshman in high school, and ended up meeting them 20 years later. I am super bummed that they didn't talk about Vaden's natural finish guitar that was his main one, when I saw them live the last time.
No one really ever thought about the playing abilities of these guys. I thought 🧐I guess rich out of touch dorks with a lot of time and money, but they’re sound is turn the amp on, distortion at 7 or 8 or so.. (doesn’t really matter)any guitar off the shelf at guitar centers. You got it.
That Warmoth Jazzmaster is awesome! The pickup is great with all the feedback-- how is is made so that it does that? No wax potting maybe? I built a strat with a Warmoth neck and body, and the quality of Warmoth products is second to none, but what's key is the customization options. Anyway, I sold my amp, a 5150 combo, years ago when I stopped playing, and now that I'm playing again, I was thinking of getting something like an Axe FX, but that Orange amp, Tube Screamer, and Duncan pickup combo sounds so good. I have a suspicion that modeling amps can't do that. Great tone in this video!
The feedback is from a loud amp. He did mention that the pickups he got, The Seymour Duncan Custom Custom (the original pickup they designed for Eddie Van Halen), were picked specifically for that feeding back response. I have what is essentially the same pickup, just made by a boutique builder (that’s the exact same design for the EVH Wolfgang bridge pickup in all the EVH guitars). It’s very mids focused. It’s a higher output alnico 2 humbucker. It hits the front of an amp and fits the mix just like rock guitar should. It’s fantastic. I’m currently running digital too. If you’re using headphones w/ digital, you won’t get that feedback like he has, but there’s this amazing pedal called the Digitech FreqOut, that will totally do that sound with silent stages or running DI/headphones. It will do near endless feedback like a Fernandez sustainer/sustaniac will, but I use it to keep that loud guitar amp feedback feeling even when playing silent.
Man, this band isn't really one of my favourites, but they are pretty cool. But the guitar and bass tones are killer! I hear it on the albums, but I appreciate the band even more now!
lol You had me at "Aaaaand scene!" XD Also, I love that he apparently thought West Ham was a person(?) lol And what a gorgeous SG! I don't even usually like SGs! I call bullshit on John's "I'm-pretty-much-a-stock-guy-too" statement, tho ;) We've seen your guitars, man! :P :D
Wait , the whammy guitar player said the bridge pickup was a Duncan custom custom. But it had a single row of pole pieces. So is it a hum bucker or single coil Or a hum bucker hidden under a plastic jazzmaste r pickup cover Ah ! wait a second I could be wrong Correct me if I'm wrong
Damn I'm going to buy an electric. I've only been acoustic playing for the last way too long. I has an accidental sound happening on a 1979 Vantage lespaul copy from some wiring and pickup mods and an overdrive switch. He made a crazy powerful yet clean strong sound. I built my style around it in that band and when I went to have it tuned up ( fret dress ect) the dude tore out all that beautiful sounding mess and "fixed it". I was mad as hell and though it had the crazy custum over powered over wrapped pickup in still all the rest was gone including the six 9v batteries. My friend Rory who did it ( I helped lol) couldn't recreate it.
Do you wanna die? About steve harris bass though.. thats probably why Steve always wears that ridiculous fluffy padded guitar strap if hes sayin it weighs 20lbs lol.
But man... the sound good! and dont fail as the people say, been playing the same b600h for 5 years and never fail on me and you can get the tone from an ampeg to an old school cab.... they are underated.
